So instead of bumping that trigun thread just to bring up a different show I figured I should just start a general one.
I just started watching the show K, I can't tell what to think about it... Seems like a weird ass show.
Really dig most of the animation so far but the plot is still super obscure and bizarre.
Seems like an interesting sci fi/ fantasy show so far, just thought I would share or see if anyone has seen it and has any thoughts.
Still trying to decide if I like K or not, but I am only 3-4 eps in

I just found out today that 'Akira' the movie only covers up to about page 1000 of a 2000 page manga. And I already thought the movie was packed full of awesome.

Yeah a lot of the best animes are like that.
I remember realizing that about Nausica and the Valley of the Wind, I need to start a manga collection one day so I don't miss out.
Paprika is awesome as is summer wars and akira, and ghost in the shell. I will have to look into the rest.
Spriggan is another older pretty far out anime.

it's like 140bucks total for the 6 volumes
when it came in I didn't realize how big it was, it looks like 2-3000 pages easily
I'll probably read Sandland by akira toriyama soon
I like reading left to right tho, my vision works that way but the graphic novels don't emulate a shonen jump

I own the Manga. Absolutely compelling read, you just leaf and leaf like hypnotized. Even if you know the movie through and through, read the Manga.

it's difficult finding these awesome movies, so thanks a lot.
Also Studio Ghibli, Hayao Miyazaki can't be said enough also ^^. I should get all those movies, I had a few not too long ago but without translation or bad .srt
and none of my friends wanted to watch and they're just too beautiful to watch alone >_>

I own nausica and princess mononoke on dvd, lent both to a friend awhile back as he had never seen em.
I also own the second half of space dandy on dvd becouse I found a good deal on it.
Give your friends some or :toke then sit them down to one of Miyazaki's movies and see if they can get into it.
Some people seem prejudiced against anime

I saw an interesting anime today called Satan's part time. It's pretty cool and goes back to the basics of demonology.

And so is all this stuff (barring Clannad, which I haven't seen). Jormungand and Black Lagoon in particular are mindblowingly awesome. Wound up tearing through both of them in about 2-3 days each. Berserk is really good too but it gets significantly better if you've read the manga, as Berserk starts pretty far into the story.

Kino's Journey/Kino No Tabi hit a lot of the same notes for me, though in pretty dramatically different ways.

I was just thinking about Kinos Journery earlier, such a great show! I need to re watch it all while seriously lit sometime.
Very deep show plus very beautifully animated even if its bit oldschool.
Such a philosophical show, very creative. I wish they had made more of it

Indeed. I watched it again about a year ago and it was sooooo worth it. I really appreciated all the little details they added in too, like Kino actually PRACTICING her gunplay rather than being able to shoot a quarter across a football field in a category 5 hurricane naturally. I still remember the first time I watched it and saw that scene in the 1st or 2nd episode where Kino comes across the 'traders' starving in the wilderness and it totally went the the opposite direction I expected it to.

Yeah it is definitely in depth especially for not being very long.
I remember that episode! Made me respect the series a lot at how unconventional it is. So many anime are just packed full of cliche...

I used to love watching anime. I don't know why I stopped. Maybe lack of time. Anywho I plan on starting bleach sometime. I got to like episode 98 and stopped because their were no more episodes at the time. But it's finished so once I get a little bit of free time, I'm going to catch up!
BTW, Akira rocks! I remember watching it once with a friend. Then later in our party years, we took DXM and tried to recreate the scene where tetsuo mind battled the wrinkled up children. It was fun.

Yeah I think time is part of why I stopped as a kid.
That's funny, I was super into bleach myself but made it too somewhere in the 200's I think before I stopped. I remember so much filler
You may have inspired me to try and make it through it myself, maybe google the filler to avoid
That sounds like an awesome DXM experience, and a cool friend
BTW how have you been on here for around 9 months without a single rating? I had to check to make sure you hadn't opted out or something.
I may have to pop your rating cherry also nice sig, I dig it.

I think what I like most about Anime is that it goes in the extreme, no holds barred, and that it brings humans back in touch with the amazing fact that WE ARE GODS and theres no limit to the power.
This is best embodied I think by Akira. When I gave away all my VHS to move into the CD/DVD era there was one tape that felt like a loss giving away, this was my 1990s copy of Akira.
Someone remember this intro? Its from how Anime got big in the west, from the old video tapes.

Space Dandy went to limbo once. Another time he refused to become God because God can't enjoy boobies. There was also the episode where everything was on shrooms, and another one where he had to catch a fish that got pretty damn shamanic near the end.
I think you'd like it, Asante.

All the inter dimensional stuff is great. And the overall attitude of the show is just so, dandy...
Beanhead, you silly goose. Cowboy Bebop is another amazing classic. There is an episode they eat mushrooms, probably my favorite.
Such a great soundtrack, space dandy has an awesome track too though.
I started watching Mushishi last night finally, and wow. Such a great show. Beautiful animation, really great mystical plot about spirits. I am in love.
Not to mention the show is giving me profound de ja vu...

You talking about the episode he dies? I love that one, so artistic.
I was wondering what episode he was talking about with the mushrooms, the plant one came to mind. That was a pretty shroomy episode.

Me and my friends did space cake, and when we started to get really high a friend put on Dandy. But I made the cake too strong, so it consisted of dipping in and out of conciousness, and every time you awoke there where the pretty colours and awesome music, but it was impossible to follow
We're gonna do mushrooms with Dandy at some point, we already picked out the episodes too! (THe one with the dancerians or whatever, the one where he had to catch the big fish, and the world without sadness, baby!)
I cant get over how beautiful this series was, especially season 2! Do you guys know any other animes like Dandy?

What is space cake??? Sounds awesome, nice episode selections too. Those are definitely 3 of my favorites.
I own season two on dvd becouse it is just too awesome
Such a beautiful series indeed.
Similar ones that come to mind would be:
Samurai Champloo
Cowboy Bebop
Trigun
Gurren Lagan
Mushishi
Kinos Journey
They are all unique but definitely share some elements. Here is just some more random awesome anime:
.hack
Steins Gate
Welcome to the NHK
Myazaki, any of his movies are great.
Akira
Heavy Metal

Yeah I thought space cake was just a pot edible cake . All of those shows are so awesome but I can just never really take anime as serious as the stories are sometimes.
I'm warming up to them though.

Get really stoned and watch one like steins gate. That shit had me tearing up towards the end, so intense...
My favorite part of anime is how not serious many of them are, but many have elements of both and that is even better.
Trigun is a great example, super silly and humorous but also very deep and intense.

Yeah I am with you on that 100% many of these amazing animes I have had to re watch many times already and I still crave more
Mushishi has really drawn me in! After I watch it all I may need to try and find a higher quality version to watch on the big screen, such awesome animation!

Bunch of upcoming/new animes
DOMO ARIGATOOOOOOO (~ ̄▽ ̄)~
I am now holding out on Cowboy Bebop episodes because they are simply too awesome to waste XD
Seraph of the end After a mysterious virus wipes out ninety percent of humanity, vampires emerge from the recesses of the earth to enslave mankind ^This is a definite contender on the "badass" list
Punch line. Seems a bit cheeky m8 but the guy says it reminded him of Space Dandy so who knows
"Is it Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? " No, no it is not.

I watched Naussicaa valley of the wind the other day and WOW
I watched it at a measly 8 frames per second becuase I forgot to sync my graphics card and it was still one of the best movies I've seen from the 80's. It makes heavy metal look like dog shit.

Definitely way more coherent then heavy metal, I really love them both but Myazaki is a master of immersion.
Heavy Metal is more like a drugged up college animators idea of some far out stuff or some shit
I finished Mushishi last night and damn, such a great series! I am already excited to re watch it
Just started bleach out of boredom and so far it has been pretty entertaining in a funny way. So much funny stuff, some of which seems meant to be serious but I can't even tell.

My favorite from the romance genre (which was my favorite genre for a few years): Clannad ~After Story~ Kannon (2006) ef - a tale of memories NANA Voices of a distant star 5 cm per second The place promised in our early days
All of these had lasting emotional impact afterwards, if anyones into that sort of stuff.

I casteth Raise Thread:
Just started watching some Anime called Black Blood Brothers, seems pretty good so far. Good soundtrack for the most part, reminds me of hellsing kind of.
I figured I would just revive this thread instead of making a new one
Re watched Gurren Laggan the other night, that was fun. Such a hilariously over the top anime with a twist

Cowboy Bebop Blu Ray is on amazon for like 30 bucks.
That and the 2nd Full Metal Brotherhood blu ray, got me stuck inside. I can't figure out how to get english subtitles with the japanese audio on blu ray though.
I'm almost on the 3rd and fourth bebop disc Really enjoying it, so far my recommendations are
Ballad of the Fallen Angels Jamming with Edward Ganymede Elegy Jupiter Jazz 1&2 Toys in the Attic Mushroom Samba
Honky Tonk Woman Heavy Metal Queen Black Dog Serenade Pierette Le Fou
going to watch the last four in a couple days the last two episodes I haven't rewatched but they are really gritty and dark compared to the rest of the episodes
If Hellsing Ultimate was a reasonable price I'd buy into it I dont' really like watching stuff for free

Bebop is amazing, I definitely need that on disc eventually.
I really enjoyed Fullmetal Brotherhood, I thought it was really well done. I got super drawn into it even after watching all the original one.
The last 2 bebop eps are really dark. I think the third last or around their is my favorite, with the crazy computer cult. That episode is pretty psychedelic.
Hellsing Ultimate is so intense, super violent but I enjoyed it. Nazi vampire ghoul zombie army world domination madness

I've been watching Michiko & Hatchin in sub, great stuff. It's produced by Shinichirō Watanabe (directed cowboy bebop) so it has a similar feel from the character designs to the music.

The English Dub is hilarious. The Japanese version is the best and hottest I think. I'm going to fuck me a true asian japanese speaking chick one day.

BUMPED
Just to say, rick and morty season two is amazing so far I am in love
Also I just started another random Anime called BlazBlue Alter Memory which seems pretty good so far.
Love the animation and it seems like it will be a great fantasy show potentially.

A friend showed me the new Dragonball Z movie, where an Egyptian Death God comes to Bulma's birthday party.
It was pretty cool, but I zoned out during the fight scenes which were awesome aparently.

Dragonball is really great I watched the first few episodes the other day and laughed my ass off
it doesn't get really bruce lee unless there's a world tournament arc going on
most of DBZ is just for thrills, drahma and action. Dragonball is superior in comedy and world building

I binged watched the whole Dragonball series in a span of about 2-3 weeks last year, good stuff. I was trying to get through Inuyasha after that but fell out. Got into Sword Art Online for a bit as well but I haven't watched the SAO2 all the way through. Wolf's Rain is amazing if you haven't seen it. Sailer Moon has always been a girly favorite of mine cause it was the first anime I got into as a child. I have a few episodes of Rahzephon on DVD but not from the start so it's a little confusing but I liked what I watched of it so far. Just wish I knew what was going on I have been trying to get into Full Metal Alchemist that my friends have been telling me to watch but I haven't found the time yet. I like to binge watch these types of shows.Oh Cowboy Beebop, forgot about that one.
Just watched Spirited Away with a buddy who hasn't seen it before, and made him watch Princess Mononoke recently as well. Origin: Spirits of the Past is a good movie. About to watch Paprika pretty soon, I heard it's trippy. I really like a particular style of anime and a lot of it isn't in my taste. I really like the fantasy/artistic anime compared to the fighting battle types of anime.

There are some anime I consciously ignore even when people say it's good I've watched so much anime it's like I don't like anime anymore that's why it took me forever to watch Nausicaa
currently Tatami Galaxy is alright it's more like a light novel japanese movie and it doesn't feature all the skin that kill la kill did
dragon ball is the best thing to watch high, along with shin chan, super milk chan, lupin III fujiko mine, cowboy bebop...
full metal alchemist brotherhood is the one to watch not FMA there isn't a whole lot of filler in it either, maybe like the 30th episode

I can't hold off any longer, I am going to re-watch Ghost in the Shell, Stand alone complex. It is one of my absolute favorite anime's, if not my favorite of all time. If anybody has not already watched it, give it a try, it is a classic.

Some nice mentions, I love Philip K Dick and a scanner darkly is one of my favorite book/ movies of his.
I enjoyed Origins Spirits of the past too, some cool artsy sci fi fantasy concepts.
Lupin the third is another great one, though I prefer the older stuff over the more recent.
Ghost in the shell has been on my re watch list for awhile now too, haven't watched it much since I was a kid and binged adult swim.
FMA brotherhood is amazing, I can't wait until I can re watch it becouse it is just so good.
Paprika is a great one too, pretty unique and definitely trippy. Summer wars is another cool movie.

Kill la Kill is a pretty good one. I'm really digging Michiko and Hatchin though, possibly one of my favorite new dubbed anime's of 2015.

with a graphic novel they give you backstory on each of the characters in the prologue usually

Mushishi is on netflix, no englush dub though I got excited to watch it in good quality for once
They have a lot of good anime on netflix now it seems, Silver Spoon sounds potentially interesting...
Started watching some ghost in the shell the other night and had some wonderful nostalgia, I am looking forward to diving into that show.
The movies on netflix have tempted me for awhile, maybe I will check em out now.

Shippuden is alright, except for the 800 fucking fillers in between every episode that relates to the actual story line, DBZ was the shit, but they kind of went off the rails after the cell saga.

Yeah I am excited to watch it more, seems like it could be a really great show.
The cliches are strong with it but that is true for most anime I like the overthrowing the government and corruption themes.
Very relevant show in today's world.
I cant stand subs anymore, I want to dive into a show and if I have to read all the dialogue it takes away from the immersion.
So does shitty dubbing though Some shows are dubbed amazingly. I thought they did wonderful with Space Dandy for instance.

Anyone watch the harlock the Space pirate movie?
I have not seen any of the original show but I thought the movie was well done. Some great sci fi concepts around humanities future and history.
I am about to re watch it since it is still on netflix, definitely worth checking out.

It is pretty philosophical which I dig, has some great messages and is pretty thought provoking.
I usually am not really a "pirate guy" but I dig the Harlock Space Pirate vibe.
Pretty sure I watched most of Deathnote as a kid, I may have to re watch it at some point.
I never got super into it but I remember it being intense and entertaining
Crazy violent drama style animes are usually not my thing, I prefer the crazy sci fi/ fantasy creative artsy types. Though all that stuff is pretty blended throughout anime.
The Harlock movie is pretty recent so it has super modern animation which looks really great.

Shippuden is alright, except for the 800 fucking fillers in between every episode that relates to the actual story line, DBZ was the shit, but they kind of went off the rails after the cell saga.
When I started reading the manga I kind of stopped watching the anime. The anime got really shitty with its insane amount of fillers and the animation got really shitty and I honestly didn't see any reason in watching it because the manga was just so much better and all you really needed to indulge in to get your dose of Naruto.
I watched DBZ when I was like 6 and the last thing I think I can remember watching was the fight between goku and Majin buu

This may be my current new favorite anime song:
Inner Universe
I get some intense nostalgia from it.

It was MUCH better once they changed voice characters for goku during the frieza saga....his original voice was that of a child.

The original voice actors were having a party. They werent taking it seriously at ALL.
The later voice actors took it waaay too seriously. Made it less fun.

A lot of them did, it's probably because it was only a few voice actors doing a majority of the voices, the guy who played Vegeta played piccolo and one other person I believe, and the guy who played Goku was about the same. I've watched that show so many times that I noticed that before looking it up

The first 10 or so I watched then I was just playing them in the background because I didn't want to look for something new.
Have you watch Made in the Abyss yet? Or Moribito Guardian of the spirit?

Oh well then there's too many to suggest.
Made in the abyss is not in English dub and it came out last year. Its only at 12 episodes right now but a new season is coming out later this year. Its about kids that travel to collect artifacts for the city from this hole called the abyss and weird things happen. Its fantasy/adventure.
Moribito is about this female warrior bodyguard that has to protect a prince and raise him. Its also fantasy/adventure. Its 25 episodes and I really love the main character, balsa.

My experience with anime is basic, I'm not plugged into the "cool stuff" I guess.
Here's a Ranker list. What say you about the top 10 or even 25? Solid results? What's y'alls personal top 5 or something. Maybe I'll watch one. That list claims Death Note is the greatest ever made, maybe I should start there.
Edit: Oh I guess this list doesn't take movies into account.

Death Note is really good, it's where I started. It touches on a lot of issues, and the story itself is pretty profound.

Any Lupin The Third fans? Seriously classic, the original series is from the 70's and they're are like 5 total TV series though only 2 or 3 have been dubbed.
Lupin is like Anime scooby doo meets james bond with a bit of Indiana Jones
My favorite thing about it is each episode takes place in a different part of the world. Lupin travels around stealing from rich assholes.
There are also at least 10-20 movies/specials though some are pretty meh. But some are really crazy. I'd recommend checking out:
The Secret Of Mamo The Castle of Cagliostro (directed by Myazaki, more of a unique lighthearted take on lupin) The Woman Called Fujiko Mine (Really trippy/abstract short series focusing on Fujiko's backstory) Jigens Gravestone (movie sequel to WCFM TV series)
Here's a good article run down of most of the movies: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/feature/2016-01-27/lupin-the-third-the-complete-guide-to-films-tv-specials-and-ovas/.98031
I don't agree with all of them, I enjoyed some of the movies they don't recommend for example. But it's a good run down of the pro's and con's of all the movies.
Also as a bonus Lupin The Third has a great soundtrack IMO, tons of classic jazz/funk and rock that goes perfect with the show:
OST Lupin III COMPLETO
I think that's one of the classic OST's, but there are a ton of them over the decades. Some of the 80's ones are cheesy but I love the older and newer soundtracks.

Myazaki also directed 1 or 2 episodes of the Lupin Part 2 TV series I believe.
Really funny show indeed, I like how many styles and themes it has throughout the years. Some are more lighthearted and childish while others are more dark/violent and mature.
FLCL 2 looks very interesting, it will be a 2 parter as well. Progressive is season 1 and Alternative is season 2 I believe

More Berserk anime? I've been waiting for the 2017 season to get dubbed for awhile now
Also the berserk manga just went back on Hiatus after Casca finally had her mind restored Only took like 10-20 years
Sadly the chapter ends like right after that panel, also that's a fan colored version.

Sadly it seems very likely the next chapter will switch back to Rickert and other people on the mainland. Or we'll see Guts n Co leave elf island to return to the mainland years later, as time flows faster on the island.
Rickert might be a middle aged badass blacksmith/engineer next we see him.

Death Note is good. Attack On Titan is accessible. Fullmetal Alchemist. Gurren Lagann. Berserk. These are definitely the best animes I’ve seen. I’ve got a bit of a boner for Gurren Lagann, but maybe that’s just Yoko. The over the top cornball-ness of anime is well distributed in it and it’s got some really interesting sci-fi stuff. I see Sword Art on that list but that second season hurt my soul. If you’re talking movies, Akira and Ghost in the Shell are pretty essential.
Oh, and One Punch Man. Saitama is my hero.

Gurren Lagan is the shit. Have you seen the movies? They aren't dubbed yet sadly, but there are 2 movies. Each covers 13 episodes + some bonus scenes
Here's the movie version of the battle at the end:
Gurren Laggan Movie 2 Giga Drill Break!
Also yeah SAO was really weird. It had some potential but it just felt like a .hack ripoff to me, with a lot more creepy cliches.

Is there really FURI KURI 2, because I know that one. That one had a weird impact on me when I saw it.
I’m surprised Gundam wasn’t on that list, unless I missed it. Wing was one of the sickest depictions of humans at war I’d seen, not just anime. I think probably you hardcore anime people would clown Gundam Wing, but I thought it was off the chain.

7 deadly sins is really good, if you end up watching it on netflix just skip over the season two that's on netflix. None of it is actually part of season 2 and if anything just makes any information you get from it confusing, the real season 2 just started getting aired recently and won't be on netflix until after it's done airing completely, so far it's up to episode 11 out of 24.
Code Geass, Death note, Steins Gate and My Hero Academia are all amazing IMO too. Would highly recommend any of them, all of which will have a new season coming out this year (besides deathnote)

Just realized there's a 6th Lupin The Third TV series in the works, this time set in France. The 5th one was set in Italy.
Also apparently a lot of Anime cite Lupin as a major influence:
Quote:
Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo director Shinichirō Watanabe revealed during an interview with Newtype Japan that he was heavily influenced by the work of director Masaaki Ōsumi on the first Lupin television series.[106] Animator Akihiro Kanayama has cited the animation of the anime adaption as an inspiration.[107] Numerous series have made reference to the series including Magical Princess Minky Momo, Cat's Eye, Gunbuster, Urusei Yatsura, Cowboy Bebop, Here is Greenwood and FLCL.[108][109] Video game designer Hideo Kojima compared the personality of Lupin with Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid, stating that in "MGS, Snake became this sharp-tongued, Lupin III-like guy who flirted with women and told lots of jokes".[110] Kojima would also partially base his character EVA on Fujiko Mine.
I noticed FLCL has a lupin homage at one part, but I didn't realize Bebop and Samurai Champloo were influenced as well. Though in retrospect it's not surprising at all.
Also the manga originally came out in 1967 so it's a real classic, been meaning to read it for awhile now. Might be time...

His dad also references the creator of Lupin The third, "Monkey Punch sensei". As well as some line about preferring "the green version over the red one".
There have been many version of Lupin some of which wear different colored outfits, including red green pink and a few others I believe.
[FLCL] Haruko's boxing glove
His dad diving out of his clothes is also a Lupin homage And I think the boxing glove coming out of nowhere might be as well

My girl watches a lot of fairy tale so i've been watching that. Think I'm a bit over 100 episodes now. Not bad.
I've been meaning to watch Fairy Tale. That's sad about 7DS, I really wanted to watch it. It's been recommended to my by a few people
It's a generic anime but I enjoy it. My girlfriend and I always make the joke they're going to solve a problem that is way above them with the power of friendship
Pretty much how it always ends. I like it though. There are some good fight scenes and animation in it. Worth a watch if you liked naruto more or less.

Yay!! Vinland Saga is getting an anime adaptation by Wit Studio.
I was surprised when I saw that because I thought it was never going to be adapted into an anime. Well, I'm glad I was wrong.
I just hope they don't fuck it up like Berserk 16/17.
Please, no CG, no censorship and I hope they will get to the story arc after the prologue arc because it's my favorite part of the story so far.
Everyone here who likes historical fiction should watch it when it comes out because it has the potential to be amazing. Also, you should start reading the manga right now.
So far, they only released teaser trailer.

Also yeah SAO was really weird. It had some potential but it just felt like a .hack ripoff to me, with a lot more creepy cliches.
I had no idea there were movies or anything. I’ll have to check that out, thanks!

I've been holding out for the dub for years but not sure if it's even happening
Quote:
An animated film entitled Gurren Lagann the Movie: Childhood's End (劇場版 天元突破グレンラガン 紅蓮篇 Gekijōban Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Gurren-hen, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann The Movie: The Crimson Lotus Chapter), once again directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi, and written by Kazuki Nakashima, was produced by Gainax and released on September 6, 2008 in Japanese theaters and the DVD was released on April 22, 2009.[30][31][32] The film is a compilation of the events of the first arc of the series (episodes one through fifteen) with around 20 minutes of newly animated scenes. In conjunction with the release of the film, Gainax has released a series of music videos entitled Gurren Lagann Parallel Works, which contains alternative stories of Gurren Lagann set to songs from the original soundtrack.[33] The film had its first official English release at the Viz Pictures cinema in San Francisco, California on September 8, 2009.
A second film, Gurren Lagann The Movie: The Lights in the Sky are Stars (劇場版 天元突破グレンラガン 螺巌篇 Gekijōban Tengen Toppa Guren Lagann Lagann-hen, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann the Movie: The Spiral Stone Chapter) was released in Japanese theaters on April 25, 2009.[10] It focuses on the second half of the series, contributing more new animation than the first film. The Japanese DVD for The Lights in the Sky are Stars was released on January 27, 2010. For both films, Shoko Nakagawa sang the theme songs: "Tsuzuku Sekai" (続く世界, "The World Goes On") for Childhood's End and "Namida no Tane, Egao no Hana" (涙の種、笑顔の花, "Seed of Tears, Flower of Smiles") for The Lights in the Sky are Stars. Taku Iwasaki returned to compose the films' scores.
The Parallel Works are interesting as well, worth checking out if you really dig the series. I only checked a few out but they were solid music videos, kind of like short stories set to music.

Damn that was a pretty great episode, can't wait for the rest...
I have a feeling these next 2 seasons of FLCL will focus more on space which could be very interesting, the first episode seemed to foreshadow it.
Would be awesome to see more crazy sci fi concepts

Thanks.
I just watched it and I thought it was a ok first episode.
I'll wait and see if it improves because I was some what disappointed with it.
It doesn't have the charm as the original, it's not it's chaotic, the fight scene at the end was meh.
Although, it's nice to see Haruko again and I think it did do a good job introducing the characters and the music was great.

What didn't you like about it? I thought it was comparable to the start of the first series. I think it's hard to compare them with nostalgia glasses for the original.
Anyways there will be 12 episodes total over 2 seasons, so it makes sense they would pace the story a bit slower. Of course we'll see how the rest of this season goes

No idea, but I looked it up:
Quote:
Progressive premieres on June 2 at 11:30 pm ET/PT. It follows 14-year-old Hidomi and her classmate, Ide. The return of ATOMSK was also teased in the announcement.
Alternative will arrive in September and will feature “a totally different team of young creators who will redefine the meaning of ‘sequel.’” It follows 17-year-old Kana and her three friends Pets, Mossan, and Hijiri. Their lives are changed forever when a giant mech falls from the sky. ATOMSK will also appear in Alternative.
So they released episode 1 of Season 3 I guess Pretty random april fools

I thought Progressive was the first one. So I was scratching my head for sec, thought I got it mixed up. So they randomly show the Japanese version of S3 for April Fools on an American station, alright then. Little promotional “campaign”? Should I watch this or would it spoil something?

Yeah it confused me at first too
I'd watch it as it will be awhile before the rest airs, and it doesn't really spoil anything. Just introduces the characters for S3.
It sounds like S2 and S3 will be totally separate, different characters and writers. I hope S2 really has a lot of prog rock

I'm on season 21 of Naruto shippuden and I started attack on titans again. I got pretty far in season 2, but I use to drink a lot when I watched it so I don't remember much.
If it hasn't been suggested...

Apparently the joke is that Adult Swim refuses to air subbed anime, even though a lot of people want them to
That movie Mind Game is apparently really trippy, I have watched parts but have yet to finish it. Hopefully it gets dubbed eventually but you never know sometimes...

Parasyte is great, was thinking about re watching it recently. I remember reading some of the manga as a kid as well, been meaning to re read it all to compare
Any fans of Tekkonkinkreet?
It's a 3 part Sienen manga they made a really great movie out of. Really great animation and plot, very psychedelic at times

It's pretty good, you may be able to find it in better quality elsewhere but IDK, probably wouldn't be much different. That site does have an annoying pop up or 2 but it was the only site I could find it on.

I found it at one of the main spots I check for TV stuff. It's 720 but not a very big file size. I will compare it to yours, might not be any better. It could even be sourced from the same place. This is probably my best bet though.

Thanks for the link
I just noticed episode 1 of the new Lupin series came out today It says it's part 5 but technically it's part 6 if you count the Fujiko series
Anyways pretty stoked, I didn't even hear about the new series until recently so I figured it wouldn't come out for years
Damn, and the first episode has Lupin buying drugs through the mail! This looks like it will be a promising series, would be interesting to see an anime about the darknet...

Holy shit, the first episode shows lupin browsing drugs on the darknet. Was not expecting this whatsoever...
It's going to be a 24 episode series set in France, the sub just started coming out so it will probably be awhile before it gets dubbed. Looks very promising though.

The first episode just came out today so it probably won't be up in better quality for a bit.
Damn, and episode 1 has Lupin trying to steal crypto currency from online drug dealers... So hyped for this series

The FLCL I found looks to be a little better quality, but I'm judging based off a still. I couldn't start the video because that website is fucking annoying.
If anyone wants the link I'll give it to you, it's a decent quality and subbed MKV. I won't post it here in case we're being watched by the feds.

I thought as far as anime I'd seen (which isn't a whole lot) that FLCL was a real work of art.
So I was bummed to find it was only 6 episodes. Less is more? This is gonna be sweet though. Last year Twin Peaks came back after 2 and a half decades, now this? Pretty trippy.

Anyone wanna shoot me some suggestions for any good animes? I've got Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime.
I've got a wide taste in anime, but some of my absolute favorites are Ghost In The Shell; series, Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, Full Metal Alchemist, Inyuyasha(spelled wrong), and many others but those are the ones off the top of my head.
So if anyone has any dank animes to suggest I'd appreciate it alot.

I was about half way through when I realized, “Shit all this music is made just for this show.” The whole soundscape is great. Not often enough is the audio paid enough attention to detail, IMO. Super important. Great storytelling too, lots of variety between seriousness/non-seriousness. I’m glad I downloaded it instead of streamed it.
TNK have you watched Berserk or Gurren Lagann? Both are good. The 2016 adaptation of Berserk takes a bit of getting used to though, visually. Personally I just keep going through these guy’s posts for new anime and it seems to work.

Yeah they did an amazing job with the OST, such a wide range of music which is perfect for the wide range of plots in the show.
Reading the Berserk manga is a must for any fans, the adaptions are all solid IMO but they all have pro's and con's, the manga is a masterpiece. Though it's still ongoing and probably will be for years, just went back on hiatus last month or so But the hiatus came right after Casca had her broken mind repaired Just took around 2 decades or so

Is the Sinbad anime still on Netflix? Finally watched that recently now that it's dubbed and I was pleasantly surprised. It's a prequel to the Magi: Labyrinth/Kingdom of Magic series which are also both great. Pretty cheesy at times but also really dark, they're about corrupt governments/countries with a nice blend of magical concepts.
Anyways here's some other random ones worth checking out, though not on netflix:
Tekkonkinkreet Akira (read the manga as well) Overlord Lupin The Third (there's a ton of series and movies though and some are much better then others, I'd start with the earlier movies and newer series) Space Dandy Big O (pretty strange/unique noir/ giant robot hybrid anime) .Hack Quantum Darker Then Black Dimension W Drifters Hellsing Gantz (the manga is a must though, the anime is like an intro to the story. Same as Berserk) Hunter x Hunter Kino's Journey Vampire Hunter D Mitchiko and Hatchin

Episode 2 of the new Lupin series came out
https://www.watchcartoononline.io/playlist-cat/618039/lupin-iii-part-v-episode-2-english-subbed
The first episode brought up darknet drug markets and crypto currencies, this episode dealt with gambling and assassins.
So far this looks like a really promising series. Seems like it's going to focus on the internet and hacking which is unique for a Lupin series.
Anyways if you can get into subs I highly recommend checking it out, this seems like it will be one of the more mature takes on Lupin in a long time.

Been meaning to watch Made In Abyss, and death parade
I think this new Lupin will be one of the best ones in awhile, seems like a fresh/unique take on Lupin but still with the great classic style.
It's only 2 episodes in but so far it seems like the story could be 1 continuous plot, as apposed to the 1 off stories in the older series.
The Italian Lupin was similar, with 1 main plot split up with some nice one off stories. But this new French series seems much more mature so far.
Here's the trailer:
LUPIN THE 3rd Part 5 - OFFICIAL TRAILER | Crunchyroll
It's weird as I thought the Italian series was part 5, and the Fujiko series was part 4. But I guess they aren't counting the 13 ep fujiko series so this new one is part 5

I wouldn't know WHERE to begin,as I've seen close to 100 animes,if not more.I would probably suggest Outlaw Star,Ninja Scroll,Fist of the North Star,Rurouni Kenshin,Akira, and since you like Inuyasha-I'd recommend Ranma ½,which has some funny martial arts battles.

Lupin The Third, it was originally a manga from the late 60's I believe that has become relatively popular around the world. There are at least 5-6 TV series and a few dozen movies from the 70's-2000's. Some of the movies are meh but a lot are really great, the first movie was directed by Myazaki actually. The Castle Of Cagliostro, which is also one of the more "family friendly" lupin adaption. The original was more mature though I have yet to read the manga.
The most recent series have been set in Italy and France, though the france one just started airing and is only 2 episodes in. But it usually takes place in different parts of the world.
In the first 2 series Lupin basically travels the globe stealing from rich old assholes, while eluding interpol.
The earliest series are more cartoon like and are geared somewhat towards western audiences, but like I said it's been adapted dozens of times.

Any Shin Chan fans? Pretty funny stuff, though it's been dubbed many times and some were toned down for kids shows, and some like the Funimation dub were toned up and heavily westernized to air on Adult Swim:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crayon_Shin-chan#Vitello_and_Phuuz_dubs
Quote:
Shin Chan, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yoshito Usui. It follows the adventures of the five-year-old Shinnosuke "Shin" Nohara and his parents, baby sister, dog, neighbours, and friends and is set in Kasukabe, Saitama Prefecture.
Crayon Shin-chan first appeared in 1990 in a Japanese weekly magazine called Weekly Manga Action, which is published by Futabasha. Due to the death of author Yoshito Usui, the manga in its original form ended on September 11, 2009. A new manga began in the summer of 2010 by members of Usui's team,[4] titled New Crayon Shin-chan (新クレヨンしんちゃん Shin Kureyon Shin-chan).
An anime adaptation of the series began airing on TV Asahi in 1992 and is still ongoing on several television networks, worldwide. The show has now been dubbed in 30 languages[5] which aired in 45 countries,[6] has over 940 episodes and 25 full-length films. Crayon Shin-chan is the 24th highest-grossing animated franchise and more than 100 million copies of the manga have been sold worldwide.
Pretty crazy, 940+ episodes, 26 full length movies, and dubbed into at least 30 languages to be aired in 45+ countries
But like I said some of the dubs were made into childrens shows, but the original was pretty raunchy/mature and some of the adaptions are Sienen (for older audiences)
I've only found the Funimation english dub, but there's a newer one that sounds more true to the source material. Most of it is just subbed for now though sadly.
Here's a list of the 26 movies:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Crayon_Shin-chan_films
I've watched 2 of the newer movies so far and they are pretty solid. Also just started the newest series Crayon Shin-chan Gaiden: Omocha Wars
Which is about abandoned kids toys that come to life and seek revenge on the kids who forgot about them It centers around a action figure called "Middle Aged Mask" who's a fat superhero who fights "Oban" who is a middle aged villainess trying to act young Only 8/13 short episodes have aired so far. It centers around kids but is some pretty funny sienen comedy: https://www.watchcartoononline.io/anime/crayon-shin-chan-gaiden-omocha-wars-english-subbed
That site also just uploaded 16 of the 26 Shin Chan movies Very excited to check out some more of them.
Anyways pretty funny anime comedy, I've heard Shin Chan described as Japanese southpark/family guy but it's also fairly distinct.

You talking about the Funimation dub?
I think the original is a bit more "wholesome" in some ways, while still being lewd in other ways. For example here's the plot for one of the movies:
Quote:
Crayon Shin-chan: Great Adventure in Henderland
The film is about Shinnosuke and his classmates at Futaba Kindergarten going to an amusement park known as Henderland in Gunma Prefecture. Shin-chan is separated from his group and learns the dark secrets of the amusement park when he befriends a living marionette who entrusts to him a magical set of playing cards. Magical and dark forces are set upon Shin-chan and his family by the lords of the park and he must use the power of the cards and the inner strength and determination of himself, his family, and an unexpected group of friends to save the day.
From what I've seen the original has a lot of family humor targeted at older audiences, which includes making fun of kids/adults as well as some more positive stuff.
Been meaning to read the Manga though, and I've only seen some of the subbed stuff.
Seems like a lot of good social commentary about commercialism and other modern aspects of life as well.

Have you watched the subbed versions? The original Manga is Sienen and definitely not for kids, as are a few of the subbed anime I've seen.
It's been dubbed into 30 languages and some of the dubs were made for kids, including the first English dub.
The Funimation dub makes it much darker and westernized but they also kind of bastardized it in many ways. I still enjoy their dub for the most part though.

Here's some of the original manga which is Sienen:
Pretty sure it's not for kids...
Though like I said some of the 30~ dubs were made for kids, including the Indian one I believe, and the first English one which edited out most of the nudity and profanity.

SAO was pretty bad lol It might be good as an anime to get started with if you never really watched it before but IMO it has poorly written characters and personalities, poorly written plot, and seemed like it was just coming up with bullshit to keep the show going. I didn't hate watching it but I don't think there's anything that would make me want to watch it again or want to suggest it to anyone. The abridged version is far superior and has the character development/originality that was lacking in the original version. If you watched the original I'd highly recommend it.
Some of the voice actors are from dragonball abridged too.

I thought it had solid animation but yeah the story/writing left a lot to be desired, maybe just because I've seen a lot of similar anime like .Hack.
I remember when I was watching SAO I kept seeing ridiculous similarities to the .Hack series To the point where it felt like a .hack fan fiction.
The first part had some promise but went in some weird/creepy directions, and I thought the second western/gun heavy part was really cliché. Can't even remember if I finished it.
Might have to check out the abridged version, I was watching some old 80's anime the other night and thought about how much fun it would be to abridge it

Is that a Gundam series? Sounds familiar. What's BS about it?
Anyone else been watching Lupin The Third part 5? Episode 3 came out today, it keeps getting better and better IMO! One of the best series I've seen in awhile. Though only the sub is coming out for now.
3 episodes in and the series has already brought up the darknet, online drug markets, assassins, human trafficking, cryptocurrencies, and a lot of hacking.
It's airing weekly with new episodes every Tuesday, check it out. Really great animation and story so far, usually lupin is mainly stand alone episodes but all 3 have been continuous so far.
I'm really excited to see how the next 21 episodes go! Hopefully it's popular enough they make a movie as well.

I don't see it anywhere offhand, haven't watched any gundams/mecha anime in a longtime either. Aside from FLCL or Gurren Lagan
Have heard good things about that one though, will keep an eye out
Here's a really random anime I just came across:
Quote:
Invaders From Cyberspace
When a world of 2-D beings discovers the existence of our universe, they send a team of beautiful Domni-Matrixes into our world to prepare it for total integration. However, once liberated from their flat and dreary 2-D existence, Compiler and Assembler quickly discovered that cybersex with a couple of 3-D guys is a lot more fun than world conquest. Now, in between interfacing with their boyfriends, Assembler and Compiler must protect the Earth from being deleted by their former masters and an army of killer programs.
The name sounded kind of interesting, one of the strangest plots I've seen in an anime though.

Anyone ever watch reqieum for the darkness?
Requiem From The Darkness Opening Theme
It's a supernatural horror mystery/crime show with some beautiful animation. It aired on the sci fi channel years ago apparently. Only a few episodes in so far but I think it's great.
The animation is very simple/abstract at times but also gets really trippy during some of the supernatural parts.

Just in case you do end up watching the SAO abridged, this is the channel for it https://www.youtube.com/user/SWEabridged
It's funny even if you didn't watch the original but it's definitely way better if you did. They take a literal eternity to release a new episode every single time but it's worth the wait lol.

Episode 4 of the newest series came out today, it keeps getting better and better IMO I'd highly recommend it if you don't might subs.
Anyways, anyone ever watch Black Jack? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Jack_(manga)
It's an older series, sort of a unique medical/crime/mystery drama. Not the kind of thing I normally watch but it's very well done. I've been watching a 10 episode OVA series, each episode is 40-50 minutes. The animation is older but not bad. Looks like there have been multiple TV series adaption's and several movies. I remember watching some as a kid but hadn't re watched any in years. Definitely worth checking out. Black Jack is an unlicensed doctor who is famous and takes on various private clients around the world, usually each case involves someone eccentric with a shady past which is slowly revealed. It's got a nice blend of medical drama and mystery/crime elements.
Another series worth checking out is Terra Formars: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terra_Formars
There are 2 seasons of the anime though the second isn't as good and hasn't been dubbed. But the first is solid and the manga is pretty great, interesting sci fi story about terraforming mars as well as genetic experiments with bugs/animals.

Of terra formars? Yeah I still enjoyed S2, but it was from a different studio and felt more "chaotic/confusing" then S1. Kind of wish I had just picked up the manga sooner instead. S3 was supposed to go back to the first studio I heard but I don't think there have been any updates yet.
The manga is well done though, and it continues much farther in the story then both seasons. I hope they adapt the rest eventually, still slowly catching up on the 200+ chapters out so far.

Episode 8 of the 10 episode Black Jack OVA is amazing...
It's about a sentient plant/fungus that grows inside of and communicates with humans. Basically an intelligent tree coexisting with people in a semi parasitic yet mutually beneficial way
Definitely one of the best episodes so far, and it was 53 minutes which is one of the longest ones as well

So disappointing. I skipped through a bunch of the episodes. I like the main story arc but they get so far away from it at times that I don’t even want to watch it. There’s literally a few seasons of random shit in the whole (two) series.. I’m probably(definitely) underestimating there. Like there’s 56 episodes left out of over 800 and at best there’s going to be another 7,8,9... maybe 10 exciting episodes left. Not that “exciting” is my only criteria but the show has a history of “giving up” with the filler episodes - scripting and animation gets way more basic like they don’t even care. I like what it was/is trying to do so I’ve stuck around to finish it, but my god, fuck Naruto.

Google the filler episodes, there's an ungodly amount but there's certain websites that tell you what episodes to skip because they're anime only and have no connection to the main story. there's literally hundreds you can skip without actually missing anything

Shouldn't be long, IIRC season 2 dub was only a week or two behind the subbed releases. My hero acamedia right now is even releasing on the same day in dubbed and subbed, lately a lot of shows seem to be getting dubbed WAY faster then they used to be. At least the better shows anyway

Not all of them are better really, any bigger budget popular shows get dubbed much quicker regardless of if they are very good or not.
Probably because manga/anime is much more popular in the west now. So it makes sense to dub popular stuff for western audiences ASAP, hence the simultaneous releases.
Hell Space Dandy aired on TV in the US 1 day before Japan, so the dub came out first kind of But that show was heavily geared towards western audiences.

I'm trippin on this FLCL shit, you don't even know, like bugging out from the anticipation as the date gets closer. Twin Peaks coming back had me all fucked up, but I didn't experience that directly in the early 90's when it came out.
FLCL is some personal shit to me somehow, 6 whole episodes and it had some weird effect on me.

Finished episode 1, really impressed so far. Beautiful classic animation and a really top notch supernatural story involving nazis demons and telepathy.
Don't see the manga online anywhere though sadly which sucks, I want to read the full story damn it!

I just watched the movie "Your name" (or Kimi no na wa) a week or two ago and it was surprisingly extremely good. I've heard a lot about it but never watched it because it didn't look like something I'd enjoy but it invoked some random emotions i havent felt in a while and brought up some forgotten memories out of me that made me feel some type of way. The art and animation of it was incredible too. Would highly recommend.
