My old roommate was a fan of both the manga and the (90s) anime so he was pretty excited when the movie remakes came out, and argued them to be much better than the original anime
have only seen the movies, and found them worth my time but given that it was already cut to a series prior to that am presuming a lot is missing from the manga due to compression and time constraints

the show isnt bad. season 1 to season 2 was such an improvement , there are tons of stillls and anime cutscenes in season 2
action sequences in anime take lots of time to make, it's way smarted to just build 3d cel shaded models and have them act that way
but yeah I was talking about those body pillows with the naked underage chicks on them haha, really sexy but embarassing to have

Finished Goblin Slayer. I really enjoyed it. By the end I really fell in love with the whole party. I hope they come out with more.
Just started Ms. Vampire who lives in my neighborhood. Only three episodes in so far it’s great, super cute.

Here's some my anime recommendations for you to watch.
Baccano! Mushishi Steins;Gate Psycho-Pass Monster Ergo Proxy Serial Experiments Lain Paranoia Agent Ghost Hound Gankutsuou (This anime is very visually impressive and its loosely based on The Count of Monte Cristo) Darker than Black Shiki
Let me know if you watch any of them and I'll give you some more recommendations based on what you say.

I’ve always purposefully avoided any of the anime with hundreds of episodes but I’m currently looking to binge an anime as I fall into a pit of alcohol and artificial comfort. Just not sure what one of the bingeable ones I should commit to... I was decidedig between Bleach, One Piece, Fairy Tale, and Naruto. A friend of mine says I should go with One Piece, but I wanted to stop by here first before making such a commitment. Thoughts?

Naruto is pretty repetitive for such a long show but it does have some good atmosphere and philosophy mixed in. One Piece on the other hand is almost no filler and is just more fun and fantasy driven. Like Naruto has magic and god-like powers but it's framed in a more believable manner whereas One Piece gives no fucks. I prefer One Piece but I don't regret watching Naruto either at all. Just wish it was more condensed. I skipped a ton of content just so I didn't have to deal with all the flashbacks or dragged out sequences. The pacing is really awful at times. The series climax is interrupted every few episodes for character building filler, for instance.

I’m thinking I’m gonna start up one piece, almost done with Ms. Vampire, but I was thinking about checking out Kill la Kill a bit before making the plunge.

I don't like to watch Trigger studio's anime much, mob101 has gotten a season 2.
Most of their popular shows like kill la kill are being made into video games, my hero acadamia is a video game right now
for naruto just read the graphic novels, they're so much better, naruto was orginally intended to be about magic, but then they made everyone ninja's but you can still see it in the early episodes when they're fighting giant snakes.

I bindged through Ms. Vampire and seriously loved it. Can’t wait for more. It’s a super cute stress free anime about this girl who falls in love with this vampire and moves in with her. It’s great, despite basically becoming a giant lesbian love tesseract it doesn’t get sexual at all, they’re always just cute and having great time.
About a third of the way through Kill la Kill now, I gotta say, it’s pretty refreshing to see an anime filled with so much female oriented symbology. But ya, so far so good, took me a minute to get into but once I did I’m liking it. Everyone alone needs to have a friend like her friend Mako.

if you like it that much get the dakmakura pillow with the character on the cover
Are you referring to Berserk? it was pretty solid, and would suggest watching it for people who like both anime and more Western medieval fantasy settings but not particularly interested in merch, and a Guts pillow would be a little odd anyway
Do have a plushie of Kuroneko-Sama from Trigun tho
Dont watch Berzerk, read the manga. Much much better.
The manga is best by far but personally I enjoyed all 3 adaptions, each is flawed in their own way but with different redeeming qualities.
There is a fan made supercut of all 3 adaptions that splices them together to more accurately cover the story. So far there are 9 parts out which cover all the story from the animes.
Here you can find links to all 9 parts of the redux at the bottom of the page: https://www.reddit.com/r/berserk/wiki/advice#wiki_.27A4check_out_the_berserk_redux.2C_a_fan_edit_of_the_berserk_animations
If you can get past the changes in animation it is very worth watching, also they corrected the voice acting for a few parts to be more faithful to the manga.

I loved Bleach as a kid and it's enjoyable overall but it does have some cheesy shounen cliché's, and the later arcs get a bit ridiculous especially the last one. It has a great soundtrack though.
Personally I'd recommend Hunter x Hunter, has plenty of episodes but not hundreds with tons of filler like some other series. It may seem cheesy and light hearted at first but it gets very dark at times. Also the Dub is almost finished, they are on episode 121 out of 148. So it's a good time to catch up, also the manga has moved forward pretty far so we may get a new season or something eventually. But the 2011 anime ends at a good point. It has a unique "real world" fantasy/adventure style with a great fresh take on the anime superpowers cliche.

Almost done with Kill la Kill, Got a little delayed because I stared the series over this weekend with my wife. But just a few episodes left, makes me sad it’s almost over but I got a lot of stuff to watch.
New episodes of Ms. Vampire and Goblin Slayer are out, need to check those out, not sure if I’m gonna watch them before or after I finish Kill la Kill.
I plan on watching Izetta: the Last Witch next. Not sure when I’m gonna get around to One Piece, I’ve once again lost motivation to take on such a dubious commitment.
Hopefully gonna finish Kill la Kill tonight and I’ll give you all my final review of it.

Anyone watch Basilisk? Had eyed it for years and recently decided to check it out
Interesting dark historical anime about a ninja clan rivalry, halfway through so far.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basilisk_(manga)
There are 2 different series so far:
Quote:
The first series (Basilisk: The Kōga Ninja Scrolls) premiered in Japan on the television stations TV Saitama, TV Kanagawa, Chiba TV, Mie TV, KBS, AT-X, Jidaigeki Senmon Channel, and others between April and September 2005. The series has also been aired across numerous international regions, including Malaysia on ntv7, Canada on Razer, the United States on IFC and Funimation Channel, Russia on 2x2, Turkey on MTV Türkiye.
The second series (Basilisk: The Ōka Ninja Scrolls) premiered in Japan on January 8, 2018. It is set 10 years after the original series and focuses in a group of young ninjas who endeavour to carry on the ninja traditions and techniques.

Watched maybe half to 75% of the series cannot remember what ended up getting in the way of me finishing it the various fights with the ninja powers were fun but the love story angle felt hokey and not sure if that was because of awareness of how the history the clans played out or if it was written meh
it's an instant win for me because it has a character named Hotarubi tho am easily won over

Yeah I agree about the love story, at least a bit cliche though I am interested in seeing how it plays out. Though I thought the bit comparing them to their grandparents was written fairly well, I also am pretty ignorant on the history involved though.
The fights are definitely well done, the animation in general is pretty nice too.

Koga vs. Iga shows up in Japanese cinema as well, so know how the broader story of clash between clans ends
dunno; the romance sort of felt more pinned on for a Romeo and Juliet feel rather than representation of the historic struggle they did prolly end up tying it up at the end in a fairly satisfactory way (with the grandparents foreshadowing) but felt the combat was the real winning portion of the anime liked them each having different powers to square off with sort of reminded me of Tenjho Tenge, but with a more interesting setting (historical ninjas rather than an imaginary high school)
did like that Basilisk was putting the story in a higher age category for anime tho may be stretching my memory now; but seem to also recall the art style in the fights feeling reminiscent of Ninja Scroll
Shigurui: Death Frenzy is another of sort of similar concept hyper-violent adult-oriented; rather grotesque but kind of fun

I read the manga up until a bit after the eclipse so I could participate in my friends DnD campaign a few years back. I never really got into it to be honest, loved the art but there wasn’t a single damn character in it what I grew attached to and that’s what keeps me invested in things.

You definitely need to read more, The Eclipse sort of "resets" the story as all but a few of the main characters are gone, the deepest character growth all starts after as it introduces a lot of new people.
Try reading up past the Tower Of Conviction bit, Farnese and Schierke are my favorite characters probably. Farnese starts out as such a psycho and it really highlights her growth over time. And Schierke is just an awesome addition to the magical elements of the story.
Also even the main character (Guts) starts changing a lot post eclipse, most of his best moments come later IMO. Also it takes a very interesting turn with Griffith and the Apostles, which still hasn't been resolved so who knows how it will turn out.

I feel like they've even made a few ninja scroll references (aside from the show being partially about ninja scrolls )
Also there were some other references I caught but can't specifically remember now. But yeah it definitely seems inspired by some older series.

Anyone watch Paranoia Agent?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paranoia_Agent
Almost done with it and very impressed so far, super abstract and fairly dark at times but a very interesting gritty crime/mystery anime with supernatural elements and a focus on mental health issues
Only 13 episodes, very worth watching. Starts a bit slow for the first few though but gets really good about halfway in when is starts getting extra weird.
