Abort or rot?? **pics included**

Hello everyone! So I had this guy and the stem starts to grow a big bigger than the head and I also notice the head deformation, I let him chill for a couple more days to see what would happen.

After two days of no growth, the head started getting a little darker appearing. I went ahead if picked it, assuming it was an abort. However, I want to get others opinions. Do you believe this is an abort or possibly just a bad mushroom gone to rot?
These two pics are of it picked and fanned for about 36 hours in a dry box.

Could be a mutant, looks pretty gnarly. I'm sure someone more experienced will chime in.

It will be drying until I find out more about it! It's a fatty, I wonder what the insides look like

Never got wet weight. It started brushing immediately, that plump ass, so I handled as least as I could. At it's dry/wet phase right now it's a whopping 7.4g.

in my opinion yes it was picked to early . you should have gave it more light in the day and mist heavily in the evening. sunlight is the best light you can have. I had one just like that recently and I did what I just told you and it harvested out at 6 grams. I love those . I say if the stem is solid and looks healthy IMO it is ok . but then again I am just a novice at growing.

Yea that's definitely a mutant Which can make it a bit more difficult to identify when to harvest it sometimes. Looks like it was pretty close tho.

Thank you guys for the comments! Picking early doesn't effect edibility does it? I am working around my work sched and work place, I am giving the babies all I can really.

hell no it doesn't. idk about the ones that are picked early but they say aborts are more potent than fully matured mushrooms. but im having a hard time figuring out why you cant give them enough attention. if your gone a lot you might want to look into a set up that is automated. such as a humidifier that runs on a timer. and a fan that kicks on from time to time. I keep it old school man. I fan in the morning , at lunch , when I get home from work , and when I go to bed. since you are doing cakes it a must to fan and mist. from what I have learned so far is that this hobbie of ours takes patience. I know you just want to eat it. I was the same way. but I waited and it was an awesome choice. why harvest 10 grams when you can wait and harvest an ounce

They'll still taste just as bad It won't adversely affect potency. In fact, picking just before the veil breaks is the best time for best potency.
