Bethesda put up the Far Harbor DLC trailer a few hours ago

Maybe avoid if you want to avoid potential for spoilers?

Lots of interesting stuff though, really like the more natural design of the island, the assets like the pine trees may come in handy for my modding project.
Some cool new creatures, weapons, and what appears to be a fisher's hat.

So I just got around to playing Automatron. Was almost embarassingly bad DLC. Automatron was like 3 quests and provided maybe 4-5 new weapons and a couple of new armor sets. It didn't even remotely compare to Dead Money, by far the worst of the New Vegas DLC, much less Old World Blues or Honest Hearts. Wasteland Workshop didn't even fucking add quests. It just added a handful of crafting items and a somewhat lame niche mechanic. If Far Harbor isn't absolutely amazing the season pass won't have been worth it at all.

Indeed, it often seems to me that of all the good things in the world, the only ones humanity can claim for itself are stories and music; the rest, mercy, beauty, sleep, clean water and hot food (as the Ascian would have said) are all the work of the Increate. Thus, stories are small things indeed in the scheme of the universe, but it is hard not to love best what is our own—hard for me, at least."

Yeah, it really was some bullshit how they handled DLCs so far.
Automatron basically added a mechanic (robot crafting and customization) that should have been available in the Vanilla game.  Automatron basically just adds a form of combat capabilities to Intelligence builds -- believe I likened it to having Necromancer capabilities in the Elder Scrolls titles.
In terms of quest content, it is basically not there, and even the radiant quests were handled poorly.  They could have convinced me to do the hunt Rogue Robots quests for another 10-20 hours, if they hadn't deleted the point of doing so by automatically unlocking all the robot mods for completing the main questline.
What was more frustrating is that there were models of mixed robots available in the Vanilla game, so not only was the system clearly something they had in the works but held back, they basically taunted players about it as well.

Wasteland Workshop I cannot even consider to be a DLC.  I waited for mod compatability with the add-on, only to find out that 90+% of what the DLC added had already been added by mods back near game launch.  The traps and arenas are kind of nifty, but it more just gives console players the ability to do what PC players could already do via console commands.

Then to add insult to injury, they recently changed the coding so that running mods disables the ability to unlock achievements, so had to turn around and mod that limitation back out.

Have some hope for Far Harbor, but mostly considering it to be more about the new assets than potential for content.  They talked about how the island is their biggest DLC landmass yet, but even with as great as the wide shots look and I like the more natural setting, it looks like the DLC is mostly populated by empty forests with creatures rather than an abundance of quests and locations.

This is likely why they announced part-way through that they would be making more DLCs after Far Harbor; it would not be a surprise to find another of them to be another Settlement mod, but at least they have theoretically run out of existing assets to package up in it.

Will be jumping into Far Harbor on the 19th though, so I guess I do not feel total scorn yet.
Still have to level up my Survival character now that the changes are finally in official, but have been sinking hours into Dark Souls 3 since I finally got around to getting a copy.

Creation Kit got me more excited than the DLC releases, but long-term I will likely need the DLCs to access newer mods anyway, so there is that.  Still feel embittered that they clearly held the Creation Kit back to try and cash-grab with Wasteland Workshop though.
I'll quit rambling now. :cookiemonster:

 It also seems like Far Harbor is a clone of Point Lookout. It seems to have most of the same hallmarks.

With the DLC dropping tomorrow, Bethesda put up a fairly large bit of information on it today:

https://bethesda.net/#en/events/game/exploring-fallout-4s-far-harbor/2016/05/18/127

Quote:

Exploring Fallout 4’s Far Harbor

Far Harbor is not a friendly place. The town’s inhabitants don’t trust you. Monstrous creatures lay in wait around every corner. Even the island itself can kill you. “It’s not like walking around the Commonwealth and maybe encountering some pockets of radiation,” warns Lead Producer Phil Nelson. “The island is radiation.”

But you’ll find much more than just hostile denizens and radiation in Fallout 4’s latest add-on. In addition to being Bethesda Game Studios’ largest landmass that they have ever created for an add-on, the island is host to a wealth of mysteries for you to uncover. Discover new creatures, arm yourself with new gear and seek out the truth behind the ongoing conflict between factions on the island. Along the way you’ll face some of the most complex and nuanced choices in Fallout.
Welcome to Far Harbor

The humans who have made their home in the coastal fishing town of Far Harbor are a more rugged, withdrawn group than any you’ve met to this point. “Maine has this very rocky, rough terrain and a dramatic coastline,” says Art Director Matt Carofano. “We thought the rugged setting should inform how the characters are up there. They need to be more survivalist to live in the colder north, with its harsh environment.”

With the raging sea in front of them and radioactive fog covering the rest of the island – plus an ongoing war with the Children of Atom – the people of Far Harbor don’t have much cause to be joyful. They have found their safe haven thanks to a special device that keeps the fog at bay, but they are looking to expand to new settlements. (Yes, you can build settlements on the island – but first you have to gain their trust.)

The Children of Atom have made their home further inland. Their mission to convert everyone and destroy anyone who refuses to follow has brought them into direct conflict with the citizens of Far Harbor, and the only group who seem interested in keeping the peace on the island are the Synths, who are tucked away, high in the mountains.
The Choices You Make

Your journey through the add-on will lead you to all three groups, and the choices you make will decide their fates. “Everyone you meet has their own agendas and goals they try to drag the player into,” explains Lead Designer William Shen. “Everyone has a sympathetic side, and a side that’s not-so-sympathetic, and you have to decide where you’re going to land. We wanted to include a ton of different options. Is it possible to go through with no one dying? Can you just decide to destroy everyone? Can you bring certain people to justice and drag out certain truths? Is it worth exposing this person if it means all these other people are going to be hurt? We give you a lot of tools and information that affects all groups, and then you have the ability to decide what you’re going to do with it.”

You may find yourself going down one path, and changing your mind once you have more information. There are very few hard-stop decisions, unless you choose to start killing folks. (Death is a pretty final choice, after all.) But even within the huge decision moments, there are lots of ways to handle a situation – some more peaceful than others.

“It’s fun to present the player with choices that will make them pause for a minute and think, ‘Is this really what I want? Can I live with the consequences or the cost?’” Shen says. “We really wanted to introduce a lot more conflict, but we also wanted to make sure there were a lot of ways to end the conflict.”

“There are many different ways to do everything with many different potential endings. There’s a lot of player freedom in this one,” Nelson adds.
Go Big or Go Home

This is the largest landmass Bethesda Game Studios has ever created for a piece of add-on content, and the team had some very specific reasons for deciding to go big.

“Early on I did a test of a smaller island, and the scale just felt off,” Carofano explains. “When I looked at the scope of Bar Harbor, Maine, in the real world, and the rugged terrain it has with the coast and the mountains, it doesn’t fit in a small-scale environment. We wanted to make the island as big as we could to fit the geographical features and make it an awesome place to explore.”

The island’s diverse environments wouldn’t allow for anything less than a massive space. Replacing the dense urban setting of the Commonwealth is a much more feral, mysterious wilderness that could have come straight from a horror novel set in the American northeast. Inspired by the real-life town of Bar Harbor, Maine, Far Harbor is a small fishing town, surrounded by what was once a beautiful national park. It would have been a rather idyllic little tourist spot before the war.

“What happened here after the war?” asks Carofano. “All the trees in the national park are dead. Everything is dead and covered in radioactive fog. Basically the whole landscape is destroyed. The ocean is on fire in places where ships have wrecked. You’ll see lots of whale skeletons because they couldn’t survive. They all died out and washed against the shore. Maine already has a certain spooky atmosphere. You think about Stephen King. There’s a bit of a horror element that we’re excited about.”

“It’s a different kind of atmosphere in terms of discovery,” adds Shen. “You’re wandering around much larger spaces. The trees and the fog on the island really lend an eerie vibe. You don’t really know what’s around the next bend.”
New, New, New

The new setting brings a variety of distinct environments – from the rocky shores to the forests of dead trees, even up to the mountains. And a new location demands new and different everything. Bethesda Game Studios wasn’t content to simply rest on everything the base game has to offer. They wanted new creatures, new weapons, new armor, new puzzles, new perks and even new crafting options. Everything was designed with the feral island and the roiling sea in mind.

“We looked at our base creatures and made some new ones inspired by the new location that are higher level and even more messed up because of all the radiation,” says Carofano.

When concepting the new creatures, the team drew their inspiration from the waters surrounding the island. You’ve got the Fog Crawler – a huge creature, standing just taller than a Deathclaw – with two large pincers. There’s the Angler, an amphibious monster that lurks under the surface of the water and has a lure disguised as a flower common to the island. There’s also the Gulper, a salamander-like creature of varying sizes.

With new animals to combat, you’ll want some new equipment. In Far Harbor you’ll find a lever-action rifle, a whaling-inspired harpoon gun, new fishhook and meat hook melee weapons, and the radium rifle, a submachine gun favored by the Children of Atom that spews radioactive bullets.

You’ll also gain access to the Marine Armor, which is even stronger than the combat armor. “It’s the new highest tier armor in the game, and it has some great variants,” says Nelson. “The Children of Atom even have a variant version of it with their markings inscribed on it.” (It’s also a great option for players who haven’t invested in Power Armor but still want heavy protection.)

While you’re wandering around Far Harbor, you can even meet up with a new companion, though fans of Nick may want to continue the journey with the intrepid Synth detective. “If you love Nick,” says Nelson, “you’ll get some insight into his backstory, especially if you bring him with your while you’re talking to people.”

Your new companion, Longfellow, can be found in a local bar and, like everyone else in Far Harbor, he’s not very friendly. “Longfellow is sort of your Quint from Jaws,” Nelson tells us. “You show up on the island and you’re pointed to him because no one knows the island better than Longfellow. He’s this seriously grizzled old salty-type. The first thing he does is flat-out tell you that you’re unprepared for the island.”

Prepared or not, once you arrive in Far Harbor you’ll encounter a Fallout setting unlike any other. From a feral setting full of danger to a hostile populace that will force you to make many tough choices, Far Harbor will take you on a journey that’s a far cry from the Commonwealth.

“There’s still a ton we haven’t even talked about yet,” adds Shen. “There are definitely some very cool surprises as you progress through Far Harbor.”

and associated video:

Release is at midnight, most likely going to run through it on my first character and hope level 109 is not too overpowered for it.

Or I'll be distracted by Dark Souls and not notice when the DLC has downloaded. :awehigh:

Am actually really pleased with this DLC.
Map is indeed large, with a lot of natural spaces, but has a number of interesting points of interest and some pretty cool Settlement locations.  The spooky vibe and all the fog makes me feel a little mixed about building a beach house, but I can just force clear weather via console if I really want.
The island looks really different in clear weather.

Enjoying the quests as well, it is good to see that Bethesda appears to have listened to a number of the criticisms about the Fetch/Kill-Loot-Repeat quests and have instead put in a bit more in the way of branches and decisions.
They also have made NPC discussions a bit more detailed, though the same cannot be said for the protagonist.

It is also really compelling to learn more about the Children of Atom and their religious beliefs/nuclear waste tripping. :awesomenod:

And then I went to jump back in for more. :cookiemonster:

I'm enjoying Far Harbor vastly more than I've enjoyed most of the base game content. It's definitely infinitely superior to Automaton in every respect.

With Far Harbor having turned out quite satisfying, am looking forward to finding out what Bethesda has planned for the remaining DLC in the future.

E3 starts next week, and Bethesda is running another presentation like they did last year.  Starts on the evening of Sunday June 12th.
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/how-to-watch-bethesdas-e3-2016-press-conference/1100-6440401/
This link says they will be streaming it, but if a youtube stream or something shows up may pop back in here to link it. :cookiemonster:

They will presumably be teasing Fallout 4 DLC, Dishonored 2, Elder Scrolls Online and Legends.
Hoping for an interesting large-scale announcement beyond those.
Rumor mill is saying that they have a remaster of Skyrim in the pipeline for later this year that will be announced at E3 -- basically to give Xbox One and PS4 an updated version with new graphics and console mod support.

On the mod side of things, the past little while has been a little frustrating to watch -- people apparently keep stealing mods from the nexus and uploading them to bethesda.net for consoles.
If Skyrim with mods for console is where Bethesda plans to go with their announcements, kind of suspecting the new Skyrim console mod section will be a bit of a shit show of people having to report a ton of stolen mods.  :nonono:

My hope for a remake/remaster would certainly be pretty much anything earlier than Skyrim, with a preference for Daggerfall, but Oblivion almost felt more likely to me due to it being the 10th anniversary year.

The recent leak really does make that appear to be the case.
Suppose if they see a market for it they are going to milk that cash cow.

Hope they take a bit more active approach to dealing with mod theft though.

Are your peasants getting out of line?
Maybe you need to blow off some steam with the Craftable PeasantPult :cookiemonster:
Made available for both PC and Xbox users, likely to end up on PS4 when the time comes sometime next month
PC: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/14969/?
Xbox: https://mods.bethesda.net/#en/workshop/fallout4/mod-detail/1786098

As for something less comical, have two Power Armour suggestions for people to check out
TumbaJamba's Spartan Battle Suit
PC: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/9912/?
Should be on console at some point in the future

Think the stylistic decision to make the front a window that my character is visible through is actually really cool.

the other Power Armour suggestion is T-49 Armour of the Storyteller
PC: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/14581/?
Xbox: https://mods.bethesda.net/#en/workshop/fallout4/mod-detail/1514024

No screenshots, but this was custom made by the guys who made the NCR Ranger Armour and X-02 Enclave armour.
The set was made for use in the new season of Shoddycast's Storyteller series, but has been released publicly for the rest of us to use. :awesomenod:

Bethesda's presentation tomorrow evening is apparently going to be ran live on their youtube and twitch channels, so I should be dropping back in with a link sometime.

New Wasteland Workshops for next week and July.
One adds conveyor belts, elevators, ball machines.
Second one allows construction of a vault-tec vault.

Nuka World in August 2016.

Graphical remaster of Skyrim for consoles looks quite good though.  Drawing a lot on things ENB provides for PC.
Mods on console as expected.

Ahahahaha the vault workshop. What a joke. Nukaworld might be cool though if its closer to Far Harbor in scope than Automatron. Also  at the Skyrim remaster

The workshop is kind of ridiculous, drawing on mods that have already been out and being worked on, just jazzing them up.

The Nuka World does look like it takes advantage of a new worldspace, but they did not do a whole lot to preview scope, which is unfortunate.
My concern is that it is leaning closer to Automatron size, if they are not projecting it as a significant landmass the way they did with Far Harbor.

Bethesda VR.

Fallout 4 in an Oculus dev kit was already solid.

Good to see them working on official support though.
2017 HTC Vive support -- looks like I know which consumer platform to get.
