Just finished the story line for another team.
The Institute this time. (not sure if it still counts as a spoiler that they are a faction to choose, but spoiler'd just in case).

Really like the mechanics they used for the story in this game.
Minutemen felt more satisfying after all was said and done, but this team had a bit more compelling feeling quest to play while getting to it.

May do up a character for a Brotherhood completion next.

Looking forward to in a month or two when larger groups of people finish out the story and debates over choices and reasoning behind them sets in.

Assuming you have everything to support them (beds, food, water etc) and the settlement is overall happy, how long does it take to build up to more than 10 people? I didn't know about the beacon back in Sanctuary, I found it by accident at the new settlement, so Sanctuary has always been just the same few people. Been a couple of hours worth game play since I put up a beacon at both and Sanctuary has only gotten 1 new settler and the new place has only gotten 4. Both seemed to happen pretty much immediately after placing the beacon and then no one else really showed up since.

Positive I set up a supply line, I checked it on the map. Materials from junk do not show up in the connected workshops (to be specific, workshops from different settlements, ones in the same settlement do all share with no perk). Once I converted everything to basic scrap, it showed up. I later figured out it the scrap would not show up in the workshop from another place, but you could still use it to build. HOWEVER, when it was all junk, I was not allowed to build things that required unbroken down junk scrap I didn't have in that settlement workshop or wasn't a base scrap in another. Namely copper and crystal. In the settlement I was in, it was showing I had none, but I knew I had it in the other settlement. I went back to check, and had hundreds of both, but it was all from junk. Once I broke it all down to base, the new settlement showed I had hundreds when trying to build something that used them.

Well, I posted on reddit about it and here is some responses:

TL;DR - The game should scrap full items for raw materials from locations that have supply lines set up.
Just set up a test game. Did the missions until Ten Pines joins the minutemen. I stripped out all items in the workshop, but left some handcuffs in the Ten Pines workshop. Set up a supply line, fast traveled to sanctuary. Then I tried to build something requiring metal... 2 metal provided. So, yes, it will scrap from other locations.

I don't think this could possibly be true. I hardly scrap any junk but even the newest settlements have tons of materials once the supply line is set up.

I honestly never kept track.. but not long at all. Maybe two days or so. I'm sitting at maxed out people now.
Now I'm trying to get the achievement to get max happiness in Sanctuary.. but it's a bitch..
my settlement has been sitting at around 72% happiness for a couple days.. I can't figure out how to get it higher..
I think it might be due to all the generators making noise, might have to relocate those
And figure out how to get all the beds under roofs and in their own separate rooms with closeable doors... seems they prefer that.. and more decorations and shit.

Most of my settlements have 19 people in and I always wall off everything other than one entrance then spam turrets there. I'm guessing it's just a glitch. Ever since I left vault 111 the game has been riddled with glitches and has crashed 3 times (Xbox one ) so I'll just chalk it up to that. My crops keep getting destroyed too. I'll probably just abandon all the settlements if I don't find a way to stop it. Or I'll kill everyone in their sleep and eat them.

Its a well known issue/bug/feature that enemies spawn INSIDE your walls, It seems everyone that builds walls around settlements has them end up spawning right in the center of town or near the center.  Some people have reported some sucess with just walling off a smalllll area in the middle of your build-able zone so the creatures spawn outside of it, but even some people have said that didn't work for them.

So like for sanctuary you would want your wall to go around the main house with the crafting stations and the 2 houses next door to it, one on each side, and probably not even encompass the house aross the street (your characters house) as even that is close to the edge.

That seems to be going theory.

I dont even build walls really except on each side of watch tower a little bit out (like 2 or 3 wall units) and to help funnel mobs in certain directions, and I use lots of heavy machine gun turrets, even in tiny settlements.  The raiding occurs more if your defense score is lower then your food and water score combined.  So if you put down the industrial water thing, and then are harvesting like 30 food, you need AT LEAST a defense of 70 to lower the amount of attacks, but even that is not perfect.  The higher your score the less likely to get raided.

Oh also, regarding raids on settlements.  The zone your settlement is in determines the general level and power of the creatures that raid it.  If you grab a settlment far south where the mobs are hard, those same level mobs will be what raids that settlement.  Where as up near sanctuary the enemies will generally be easier.  This is not a hard fast rule, but a general one for most attacks.

Max number of people in a settlement is 10 +CHARISMA.  It can be adjusted higher by temporary stat boosting things also like grape mentats and charisma clothes.  As for setting up the beacon it has a broadcast range and the settlers have to be within that range to hear it.  I get roughly 1 to 2 per 24 hours if I have room left for more settlers while im IN the settlement.  If I'm elsewhere it seems to be much slower at gaining them.  Also it seems like you get more if you spend that 24 hours of game time not sleeping.  Like the more time for the game to actively spawn a settler in the surrounding area so it starts walking to your place, where as if you just keep sleeping for 24 hour chunks the game doesnt seem to spawn a new settler in range until you stop sleeping for al title while.

I'm at a constant 82 to 84 happiness in sanctuary.  Place lots of decorates and furniture to sit at, eat at.  etc.  Also it there is some theory about how much space between the bed placement having some effect on it but its only theory.  Sanct is my main base right now while I work on properly building a nice one in the castle, and I only built one house there, 2 floors  top floor has 4 rooms that are 2x2.  Bottom floor is only slightly bigger in footprint for the stairs and stuff but has one 2x2 bedroom and the rest setup as a living room.  in a 2x2 room  I put a max of 6 bed.  1 in each corner then 1 between on opposite sides.  IIve got couches and end tables and shelves and blah blah not to mention rugs under tons of stuff and paintings all over the wall.. I mean aallllll oovverr.. and flags..

For sure every bed needs to be under a proper roof.  Though I think some of the sanctuary houses still count as proper roofs.  I have some beds still in the crafting table house, but ill probabbly move those into my built house when I get off work in the morning.

Only thing I do is drink and I spend the majority of my day sober, so yep, pretty sure. All I know is what happened to me and I had a bunch of stuff still in it's whole junk item state but was telling me I did not have the materials to build what I wanted in the other settlement. I've now scrapped everything and I get the actual total of materials I have at the main storage site.

Fallout drinking game.
Drink everytime:
Idiot savant triggers
You fail a persuaion speech check
Mystery stranger appears
You yell at the game because you died and forgot.to quick save
You become addicted to chems
A vertibird crashes within aight of you
You become overencumbered
Butcher pete plays on diamond city radio
Your companion dislikes an action.

Problem with most drinking games is they have to many rules to remember. Really i initially only had the idiot savant mystery stranger, and forgetting to quicksace. Those three rules should be enough to actually follow and still get you drunk pretty quick. Maybe add bloody mess to it too.

I don't know if it's been said yet in this thread, but I noticed today that sanctuary hills has tall thick bushes that wrap all the way around the island with only a few gaps. They also go from house to house and also most of the busted up houses that can't be entered act as another portion of the barrier.

I've patched up all the holes around it and it's created a huge safe zone to build in for very cheap considering 80% or more of the walls are already up.

I put a gate at the bridge and plan on adding small contained choke points all down the bridge filled with turrets.

So i just ran into a family of named dogs on a piece of interstate towards the bottom left of the map. I was really tired and fell asleep a couple times while fighting them, so i couldn't really notice any easter egg reference, but the nature of the encounter implies it has some pop culture origin.

I think the names were kyle kate and alyssa. They were all enemies and had armor on and were living in tents. I'll have to check again in morning, down to the right of jamaica plains,(or whatever place you get the homerun bat)

Seriously check it out, i would post a link, but it never posts right from my phone. It inspired me to make a sammy sosa character who will mug people for buffout with the homerun bat.

Well I've really started filling out my settlement now. Put in generators and all kinds of lights and powered stuff. Then started playing with the traps. I set up a flamethrower on a pressure plate to see how well it worked and I was dead as soon as I stepped on the damn thing. Started to get pissed because I just realized I hadn't saved in probably half an hour.. Luckily the vast majority of that half hour was spent just fiddling around and 99% of the stuff was still there.

Can settlers die? When I originally cleared this place out there were a few ghouls and I think a dead settler. I moved all their bodies out beyond the boundary of my settlement, and they've stayed gone for half a dozen or more trips back, but today there was a dead settler and a few ghouls. Not sure if that was from an attack, or if the game just put them back for some reason.

Ive also failed to defend settlements, and when i looked at them on the map the pop stayed at 0 till i went back, then 3 new settlers immediately showed up

cleared a huge building filled with super mutants, then as im looting i run into a trap with 3 gernades....fuck me and i forgot to save.....moments like that just ruin the entire day can't play it now

i really hate the combat in this game, its either easy as fuck, or poof your dead.  i have it set on the hardest setting and its still too easy 99% of the time, i just tank shit for days and im not even using power armor.  i can just loot bodys slow as fuck while someone is firing at me and take hardly any damage, if i do just pop some water...pretty much bored.......

When i play the game (ps4) I'm usually in a party chat with other friends playing, we talk about what we're doing in the game and shit, what quests to do etc. and i always every 4-5 minutes interrupt everybody and make the announcement to save.

In every fallout game i play (Bethesda really) i always have a pit of the most useless items that i make, so much that the game has a very high chance to freeze my console. Fallout 3 was burned books, new vegas was every dinky dinosaur in the game, and I'm trying to decide on this one. Might be giddyup buttercups.
