If you're looking for a game to turn your opinion towards playing again.... try witcher 3 .. perhaps the best RPG ever? So goooood.

I dunno about that. I've recently just started playing again after quitting for probably a year.. I got kinda bored with Witcher 3 pretty quickly. I still plan to go back and finish it, but after a couple of days I stopped feeling compelled to play it.

This. It blew my expectations out of the water on a wave of animated hair and blood.

Skyrim was fucking amazing. A big part of what made it so amazing, was the massive amounts of mods. You could extend it or modify it or turn it into almost a whole new game Long after you got bored with the game.. there was literally hundreds of hours of content worth in mods, not to mention with graphics enhancing mods and so on it became a whole different game.
I'll agree it was no Morrowind, but Skyrim ruled.
I REALLY liked Skyrim for a long time and tbh I still do...but after playing The Witcher 3 I've come to feel that Skyrim could easily be described as "Wide as the ocean with the depth of a puddle". No matter what you decide to do your decisions never seem to matter. Harbinger of the Companions? Well tough shit buddy none of your shieldbros wanna talk with you anymore. Singlehanded ly end a civil war? No real effect on gameplay. Assassinate the fucking emperor? Nothing. Fight a dragon that's prophecied to literally EAT THE WORLD and wreck it's shit? WHATS WRONG DRAGONFAGGOT!? DID SOMEONE STEAL YOUR SWEETROLL!?! The game itself is fun but theres no satisfaction in the story whatsoever. anyway.
I'm really hoping that Bethesda has been taking some notes from CDPR on how to make an massive open world that really feels alive and makes you feel like the messianic (or devilish) figure Fallout characters are supposed to be.

I think you're the first person I've seen thats expressed an opinion like that. Everyone else I've spoken to about it has been raving about how incredibly immersive it is, including myself.

I tend to get very into games that I'm playing when I like them, I just don't with Witcher 3, dunno why. It's not a bad game or anything.
Actually it's the first game that's challenged me in awhile. Trying to kill that ghost thing at the well threw me for a loop, couldn't figure out what I wasn't doing right.

Thats a rough fight if you try to do it when you're still hella weak. You've gotta make use of yrden and yer specter oil. Just kite it and try to avoid as much damage as possible as you chip away at its health.

This. Abusing Igni inbetween Yrdens never hurts either.

Yeah I ended up figuring it out after awhile. I'm used to just being able to rely on flat out damage and beat the hell out of everything in my way. I like that I have to use some kind of strategy.

Personally I love the wide open and kinda oddly put together worlds of Elder Scrolls and especially Fallout. It can definitely get boring, and it seems hard to make a game that has a good balance of difficulty like this, but it's also part of what makes it seem realistic and like you're not playing on rails.
I haven't played Witcher 3 but it is on my wishlist. Lately I've just been playing Space Engineers, Kerbal, and GTAV.

I don't care honestly. Lots of times that is to the benefit of PC users. I just hope they don't rush it out trying to make deadlines and compromise on quality.
