I'm still using the dog I don't think I'm quite to the point I can use the reporter chick and my only other choice at the moment is that minuteman dude. Something about his personality bugs me.
I just went through all my "junk" in my crafting table.. I was scrolling with the mouse wheel as fast as I could for like 30-45 seconds and only got the S's.. I pick up way too much shit (practically all of it unless I don't want to go back right then and am getting full, then I'll leave the empty glass bottles behind).
Why are the old creepy buildings always populated by ghouls??

So, now that I know where to find this, I can start basically using the equivalent of the Elder Scrolls Illusion tree. Have to figure out if the Chemist perk is increasing the duration on targets, or limited only to when I use them.
Think that one of the things I really like about the world space in Fallout 4 is that it kind of reminds me of autumn, after the leaves have fallen.

One of my complaints about Skyrim was that without Tropical Skyrim it often got depressing for me to play for prolonged periods -- really don't like snow.
Though, snow in real life is probably far more comforting to live through than rad storms, so I can give some thanks for not living in the Fallout universe in that regard.

In regard to my spoilered post above, I made it through, got startled a number of times though. Hate shit like that to be honest I'm not even sure why I spoilered it.. creepy dark buildings+ghouls have become a fairly regular thing, not as if it's a spoiler to know it exits here too, but meh.
I also had to console cheat for the first time now I'm going to be far more inclined to do it in the future. It's a slippery slope. Wasn't anything major though, I just didn't feel like exiting a big "building" to fast travel and get my dog after accidentally sending him away and couldn't stop him from going before I realized what I did. So I just teleported his ass back.

Okay, how do you use frag mines? I tried to deploy one but all I do is bash, and yes it's equipped. I can throw grenades fine, and supposedly they use the same button, so what the hell? Do I need some special perk before I can deploy them?
Never mind I just did it on accident. Apparently you can't do it while crouched (wtf? What if I wanna sneak in and plant one in an enemies path??)
2nd edit I hadn't noticed we had to hold the key down for it. It can be done while crouched.

I've put 10 hours in so far, and I am LV10. Maybe I should spend less time with those settlements...

I've been fucking around with console commands for the last few hours now so I could experiment with and at some of the high level perks that I probably wouldn't be getting in my normal playthroughs. Like...the final bloody mess perk adds a chance that enemies NEAR the one you just killed will explode into chunks ...and the power armor charge you get at 10 strength is immensely satisfying. Turns out you need to be level 270 to get every rank of every perk. I've come to discover that if you decide to spec your character that way, wearing power armor at all times becomes totally viable. Fusion cells last SOOOOOOOO fucking long with all the relevant perks. Was running around in it for 20-30 minutes earlier and was like...a third of the way drained on 1 cell. This being after using the jetpack somewhat frequently cuz I like doing the exploding drop.
-------------------- "I have no way of knowing whether you, who eventually will read this record, like stories or not. If you do not, no doubt you have turned these pages without attention. I confess that I love them. Indeed, it often seems to me that of all the good things in the world, the only ones humanity can claim for itself are stories and music; the rest, mercy, beauty, sleep, clean water and hot food (as the Ascian would have said) are all the work of the Increate. Thus, stories are small things indeed in the scheme of the universe, but it is hard not to love best what is our own—hard for me, at least."

Found a pretty cool high point to take a decent screenshot. I like how you can just see a dude standing guard by the bridge in the background.

I've put in just over 55 hours now & still haven't even been to Diamond City yet. Just want to walk the wasteland to get a feel for the game it self. I can 100% agree with Shroomslip there does seem to me a very limited options of core guns to use, I find myself using the same shit & not really upgrading to more "epic" weapons it seems the only really unique feeling guns you can get are random from legendary enemies not just scattered across the world. Also not being able to break down bullets to make different ones is also to me a step back, why remove that awesome feature that was brought into NV, I know Bethesda didn't make it but fuck they can at lest learn from them.
Being melee I also find that the mods for the weapons are very limited I don't have as much freedom to build cool modded melee weapons like you can with guns, most of them have 1-3 upgrades that just boost the DMG by a bit, nothing too special or unique.
Once I play all the main story missions & the bigger side quests all that is left is the hollow repeating Minute Men quests so I'm trying to drag it out for as long as I can before I start getting that big empty world feeling like I got with Skyrim, at first it seems like the world is massive & full of things to keep you busy but soon you realize its just repeating all the same shit you just did over & over. (i.e rescue my son/daughter, retrieve my family locket or clear out the local raiders/ghouls/super mutants )
Still a great game that can only get better with mods!

I'm stuck on a mission and just cant figure out what to do. if anyone can help me out, it'd be greatly appreciated
I'm doing the "Battle of Bunker Hill" quest for the Institute and i need to reset these 4 synths.
the problem is, i have no clue how. when i talk to them they thank me, but i need to turn them off or something so they can be warped back to base.
In the last quest to recover a Synth, it just happened automatically
If i kill them or just let them go, the Institute thinks i sabotaged the mission on purpose.
ive been trying to google it and i find the quest, but none says HOW to reset the synths. posted on gamefaqs too but its been awhile and no reply

Do not know if you are still stuck on this but:
When I did it, I seem to recall talking to the Courser that was with me before talking to the Synths -- he told me to use the deactivation code on them and one of the options (I think down?) was to use the code as opposed to releasing them or anything. Had to choose to free or deactivate each one.

Some of the faction dynamics later on in the story get kind of interesting.
Some main story/Brotherhood/Minutemen spoilers: One of the Institute quests gave me an option between helping the Institute, or having the Brotherhood stop them. Worked with the Brotherhood for that, then did a couple of quests for them after -- got far enough to become a Paladin and get the Paladin Power Armor, then went and talked to the Preston, who told me that the Institute was attacking our Minutemen castle. Went to defend the castle, once it was completed I auto-failed my next Brotherhood quest after becoming a Paladin. Now the Minutemen want me to strike back against the Institute, so I guess defending the Castle was the last step in the Minutemen line before endgame.
Downside is that the Brotherhood was having me rebuild Liberty Prime, but now I think the Minutemen quest will prevent me from seeing him in action here.
Castle defense was super fun though. Far beyond standard settlement raids.
And more images:

Went to visit the glowing sea again, didn't realize how many points of interest are actually in it.

I thought about posting that but didn't for whatever reason. I thought it was pretty funny. Given how many people probably use pornhub daily, that's a significant drop.
