I found it to be a pain in the ass to find the right file. Half the links that were supposed to be for "DirectX" were just covert install links for Windows 10.. Those fuckers are stupid if they think Windows 10 is ever touching my computer. If they sneak that shit on my computer somehow, I will personally go beat Bill Gates with my tower.

My Saves folder says I am up to 1331 for manual saves so far.
Unlike Skyrim, the game hasn't really crashed out on me, but I suppose old habits die hard. Dx

The thing I don't like is that the save folder is totally ugly in terms of organization.
Tells me a save number, a string of random characters, then where the game was saved.
Going to make keeping track of multiple characters later on a huge pain -- Skyrim at least saved each save by character name first, making it easy to keep track and batch delete saves that I didn't need any longer.

inside the game the load/save menu tells you character name and you can also sort to show only saves for that character, or a selection of characters, or all.  But outside of the game it is indeed ugly as fuckall.

My girl started playing so she has her own female character and set of saves which is how I found this out.

Well I know it's driven by charisma, but was curious about how the result is calculated or whatever you would call it.. Is there any order to it? Is it just totally random unless you max it out? I have like 4 or 5 charisma I think, I've passed most checks, but for reason, I can't pass this one even trying it multiple times over. I'm gonna do it another dozen and then just move on.

EDIT: Finally I passed it. Took 30 tries total I think. Thankfully you can quicksave in the middle of the conversation.

The color coding is just a general visual to show you roughly how hard the check will be, not your chances of success.  I.e. if its orange, it will show orange whether you had 1 charisma or 10.  Then it rolls an actualy check against that when you try based on your charisma.  There are people on some reddit threads talking about this same thing who have 10 CHA and have still failed checks, and not even red ones, so there is a fail chance no matter what it looks like.  I wish they gave percentages but i sort of like it better this way not knowing for sure if I will pass soemthing or not.  It makes it more realistic.  Like if you lie to someone you dont know for sure if they will actually believe you or not until after you tried.  IMO it makes the game a little more immersive and realistic, and more like a proper RPG.  I personally think games get boring if you have an auto-win on something, like god mode or unlimited ammo.  If you knew 100% of the time you would pass every speech check it takes away some of the impact I feel.

The singular reason I care about this is that a lot of the speech checks reveal information that adds background and context that would otherwise go unsaid. The gameplay benefits of passing every speech check without fail are obvious, but kind of insignificant compared to that as far as I'm concerned.

Indeed, it often seems to me that of all the good things in the world, the only ones humanity can claim for itself are stories and music; the rest, mercy, beauty, sleep, clean water and hot food (as the Ascian would have said) are all the work of the Increate. Thus, stories are small things indeed in the scheme of the universe, but it is hard not to love best what is our own—hard for me, at least."

Thank you for the insight on this, it will make navigating it in game a bit more easy.
If I can at least use the in-game menu to figure out the save number ranges for a character's playthrough, I can go in an batch delete things from the folder still.
Will just have to stay on top of it a bit more than before, and be sure to do my deletes as each character progresses.

So I finally thought of a couple more criticisms.

I just went and looked up the weapon list for FO4.. I'm kind of disappointed with it. Hoping (that since it's a wikia) that there are many missing. Was hoping for a bigger selection of real weapons.

3 didn't have much in the way of choice, but NV offered a much greater selection of weapons, especially "real" ones. We've basically progressed back to 3 as far as base weapon goes. You could already mod weapons in NV, so you really can't hang on the fact that we can mod weapons and make them better. Modding is nothing new.

One of the things I like most in RPGs like this, is getting better weapons. I love the feeling of "moving on up".

I've never modded a game (and will now be patiently awaiting such a thing) but I'm guessing I can't be the only one who has noticed this and came to the same conclusion. We need a bigger arsenal. Even better if every weapon in the class has it's own benefits and downfalls, just like in real life. I also don't like how weapon condition doesn't deteriorate anymore. I loved that sense of realism.. I mean, it was complete bullshit in the game, because weapons do not turn into total junk after a couple hundred rounds in real life, but it would be hard to implement weapon deterioration on the scale it actually happens.

I also fucking HATE the fact we can't load our own ammo anymore.

These are just the few that have finally dawned on me.. I'm sure there are others. I hate comparing new games to old ones usually, we've gained some good things with 4, but I think they pale in comparison to what we've lost from NV. This really is like taking a step backwards. Don't get me wrong, I love the game, as I predicted I was going to get drawn into it and play what felt like 30 minutes, only to look at a clock and realize it's be 6+ hours. But this stuff bugs me.

Also, you may be able to say this is due to the way I'm playing (and we were meant to stick to these guns for awhile) but .38 ammo should not be as plentiful as it is, when the majority of weapons you're coming across are 10mm, shotguns and rifles. The 10mm pistol is the very first gun you even get FFS. I like the 10mm but ammo is really starting to dry up fast. I just sold over 800 rounds of .38 which wasn't even half my supply) to buy some 10mm because it's becoming harder and harder to find. That's more a frustration thing than a criticism thing though.

somehow that dude in the screenshot has 6500 rounds of .45?

but yah there is clearly some shit that is off with this game

Now is it just me or is hacking broke?  I was fine with the beginner hacking shit, but then i got to advanced and something just seems off, but maybe im misunderstanding it.  When it says 'likeness' i assume the number next to that is how many of the letters matched up to the password right......

so i try to passwords lets just say vassals = likeness 0,  and update= likeness 1, so from that i gather there is no a's, no s's, no v's, no l's, no k's right, but then im left with nothing but words with a's in it....what....the...fuck? and that shit happened to me repeatedly:lol: Luckly i had a save, because beginner hacking only locked me out for 10 seconds, but advanced u only get 1 try

i hope there's a book or something to reset my perks because i keep finding that the perks i picked pretty  much suck. i planned to do alot of mods but it seems like i never have parts, planned to do the extra bottle caps to see them explode and get rich along with trader spec, but seems like i should have just went more for damage/resistance ect plus im always weighted down with no room even with the dog

anyways i found out why my game was glitching, apparently this game doesn't like people who use realtek HD sound cards, at least the driver version i was using, i just uninstalled it and used windows base driver for now, pain in the ass can't believe beth didn't test that out, motherboard is only like 2 years old and drivers were up to date

The hacking works like this:  It you pick the word  BITE and it says 1 likeness.  Then that means the password has 1 of those 4 letters in it, in the same position.  So the B would have to be the first letter, the I has to be the second, the T third, or the E fourth.  It doesnt tell you which it is or anything just that one of them matches.  So based on that you look at the other words.  If you see BAIT you would see the B is in the same slot, but in the second third and final position everything is different so its a good canidate to choose as a guess.  If you pick it and it says 0 likeness then you know the B was not the right letter/position in the first guess, meaning it has to be the I, T or E in their respective spots, and now you also know that B A I T in their respective positions are also not the word.  Third try you pick FREE and it says 3 likeness and you see words BREW and TREE, you know its TREE because you already ruled out B in the first position.

Hope I didnt over explain it and make it seem more complicated then it is.  Hacking is annoying as fuck sometimes.  I find it tedious but at least its more 'realisticly' styled then most hacking in video games where you are drawing circuits or some other silly puzzle.  This at least uses some sort of word puzzles that in reality are pretty simple if you take the time to write them out, but tedious amounts of work if you need to.

The .38 ammo is so plentiful because its the base ammo for the base crappy gun every raider uses, the pipe pistol and its billion variants.  As for 10mm, at first I had a ton, but once I started doing more stuff in the wasteland I definitely wasn't finding nearly any 10mm guns, or ammo for it, where as every single raider carried some sort of pipe pistol or pipe rifle, or a melee weapon.

I agree with you on the making our own ammo thing too, I spent forever trying to figure out if you could or if I was just missing something.  I know however that a maaaaaaajjor complaint from fans to bethesda about fallout 3 and New Vegas was that ammo was far TOO plentiful.  Which is truth it was.  I was able to just carry 2 guns with me through my entire game almost that both used pretty rare-ish ammo and I never ever came close to running out.  Pick up the ammo scavenging perk if you want to find more and I bet ammo crafting will end up as a mod pretty fast once the tools come out, which is supposed to be soon.

Also, most ammo is enemy type dependent.  I was bitching on another forum about how I could neeevveerrrr find the damn ammo for that laser musket you get in the start, and its because almost everything I was fighting were raiders and ghouls in the top half of the map.  Some people said once you start fighting some other types of mobs, like the synths, you will end up getting so much energy weapon shit that you'll be bitching about not having any 10mm or .308 ammo anymore

I would find it extremely hard to believe it wasn't from console hack. Game has only been out a few days and I've spent a lot of time on it, the most abundant ammo by far is .38, I have not fired a single .45 and I don't think I even have a 100 of them yet. It's also one of the most expensive ammos (minus you know like rockets and shit) available and highly unlikely anyone could've generated enough caps to buy even half of that at this point.

Nah the hacking is good, it's basically the same as always.

They just changed it from "xx/xx correct" to "likeness xx" same thing, just different wording. I actually forgot about dud removal, and have not used it yet. Hacking is just using deductive logic and a little bit of luck (every time you guess a word that is 0, your chance of figuring it out before lockout narrows). I haven't had time to do it much in this game, but I know in 3 and NV I really started to get a feel for the type of words it would be. It was easy to eliminate ones without having to use dud removal because they were obviously not going to be it. I'm good with deductive reasoning, so this hack game has always been pretty easy for me.

The likeness is space specific. We start with the actual word that you don't know yet, say it's "PATH". If you use the word "DIAL" it has no likeness. The only two letters those words share, is the A. But in the password, the A is in the second position and in the second word, it's in the third. So you guess the next word which is "FISH" and it tells you the likeness is one. Both words have an H in the fourth position. From there we can now start searching for all words with a H in the fourth position. You see the word "POSH" and pick that one, you now have 2 likeness. So now you scan for words that start with P and end with H. At this point there will very likely only be a single word to fit that, "PATH".

I don't think there will be any way to redistribute points. You're on PC, so you can do it through console command if you really want. I don't like using that shit though.. I do it once, and then I can't stop doing it. I have to refuse to do it ever if I want to play the game without cheating. The only exception is like NPCs getting glitched, when I told my companion to stay and don't have any idea where I left them or they got "killed" and I traveled somewhere to complete the quest and waiting just isn't getting them to me.

As for them not testing it  They really can't test and fix everything before launch. There is way too much hardware and software out there for anyone to test it all. It would probably take at least an aircraft hanger full of computers with random variables and 100's-1,000's of people playing many hours in a row on every build/software combination to really test it all, and even then it would probably take years to do. This is just the nature of computer gaming. There are just too many combinations of components to be tested.

It took me too long to type all this shit out  I wasn't about to erase it and go "shit he beat me to it" though. I typed it up, I'm posting it goddamnit.

I get that part of it, but most of my ammo really isn't coming from raiders. It's coming from ammo boxes and shit. I guess you can argue it's for realism since that's what they use, but that doesn't make it any less aggravating. I'm okay with getting more .38 than other ammo, but the rates I'm finding it is ridiculous. It's probably something like 7/10 times I find a stash of ammo (not a body looting) it's .38. It just really doesn't make sense to me. I felt something was off when I started playing because that 10mm with only minor mods will fuck people up. Yet it's the first gun they give us. So now we're supposed to just drop it and downgrade? I could be remembering wrong, but I'm pretty sure you started off with shit guns in both 3 and NV. If we started off with shit, I wouldn't say anything.. But since they started us off with one of the more decent weapons I'm just like "Fuck you Bethesda!" Huge cock tease..

As for too much ammo, I'm all for not being able to just run and gun through the game and have a sense of needed conserving, but so far, I'm finding it a bit extreme. Just before I saved and quit tonight, I was at the point where I was having to spam meds or rush people with a shotgun while 4 other people take shots at me. If I wanted to treat this like a real shootout, it kinda makes sense, but I really don't have the patience to sit in cover for 5-10 minutes while I wait for one to grow the balls to come within my effective range and then repeat over and over. If anything that makes it more unrealistic than an abundance of ammo. It's plausible large hordes of ammo could be found or made, it is not plausible someone could survive months or years when they're charging to close the distance between you so you can blow his head off with a shotgun and eating grilled meat to heal the 10 bullet wounds you just got.

Except Bethesda didn't make NV.... Obsidian did. Two completely different companies. The last Fallout Bethesda made was 3.

As far as modding... there's probably 500 more possible mods in 4 then there was in NV..

I'm just saying you shouldn't expect the game to "move forwards" from NV because Bethesda didn't make NV, that was more of a spiritual successor.
Bethesda has a specific goal in mind with Fallout while staying true to the spirit of it..

Personally I really like the direction it's taken.
- It's engaging as fuckballs.
- I was kind of irritated that the skill system was gone at first, but now I kind of like it, being replaced with perks and all.
- People are bitching about V.A.T.S being lame in 4 compared to NV.. because in NV it "froze" the screen, allowing you to sit there and make a sandwich and then take your shot. But that took no skill.. I like the change they made to it.
- Power armor is legit as fuck now.

I'm infatuated with the crafting and settlement system. I mean holy fucking shit.

The amount of mods you can do to weapons and armor is pretty fucking insane.

The types of settlements people are building (and I am building) are pretty fucking insane.

Building, settlements, raiders raiding you.. in Fallout... what??!
And holy shit just wait until the mods start to arrive. Shit's gonna get real.

People so soon forget the downsides.Yeah NV was fun and interesting, it was also one of the buggiest games to ever be created. I beat that game but it probably crashed on me more times than all the games I've ever played combined LOL.. no but seriously.. probably crashed hundreds and hundreds of times, saves getting corrupted and having to start over, probably reinstalled it 30 times. Had to make all kinds of tweaks to the ini files and shit just to make the fucking game run remotely stable, and even then it would randomly crash or freeze up or character would get stuck or fall through the world... so many fucking bugs in that game. Don't get me wrong.. it was a fun ass game.. but it had it's downsides too.

This Fallout is so far, the best one yet in my opinion, and I'm not even like halfway through the storyline.
It's not absolutely perfect in every possible way... but it's fucking amazing.
