What companions is everyone using and why?
I just met Piper and I met that one minuteman dude earlier. I'm still using the dog for no real particular reason other than I dunno if I'm fucking myself by picking a worthless companion.
Oh and hey bloodwhip I just got your answer. I got to diamond city and then got an impulse to shoot this douche mayor in the face, the first time he shook his head like a dog trying to dry off, but with blood.. The second time half his health is gone and everyone's shooting at me.. LOL

Does not seem to be, sadly.
From what I have read, Demolitions Expert rank 2 apparently gives a pathing line, but not as satisfying as perfect VATS tosses.

Dogmeat, because, despite what the loading screen tip says, he does not stop the Lone Wanderer perk from functioning. Would be alone otherwise, but having him run with me gives a bit extra carrying storage space, and sometimes he sniffs out decent items.

I've been using Nick Valentine the synth detective for the longest of all my companions. He's an interesting character, I like learning more about his backstory as we travel together. He's a badass too.
I recently switched to the BoS guy, can't remember his name but he wears power armour. He's pretty good too.

I need the extra carry capacity. In real life I'm a pretty tidy person, in games like these though, I become a complete hoarder. I'll pick up just about anything in any given area and then go drop it off Never know when that shit will come in handy. I think I've got probably 100+ pounds of apparel that cannot be broken down. I think my steel reserves are up to about 10k right now. Anything I never plan to use that isn't just "random junk" I try to scrap, if I can't scrap it, I still keep it, not on me of course.
There is not a single building yet that I've came across and haven't picked 100% clean. Short of like the master vault at the bank and master safes I've ran across, since I can't open them.
At this point the only things I'm leaving behind are burnt books/magazines and file folders. I don't see them having any use, they don't seem to offer components but I guess it's possible later on there may be a perk that would do it (I haven't looked at all of them yet).

Yeah, carry capacity and having someone to foist my junk onto in order to make more room is a huge deal.
It is nice that the AI is a bit more reasonable as well. If I am sneaking, he does not tend to run ahead until the enemy knows where I am. Even in combat he's decent enough, since he usually grabs at least one enemy and keeps them from targeting me.
The unkillable companions aspect makes for some ridiculous moments where he runs right on top of a grenade tossed at the enemies and then spends the rest of the fight whimpering; however, the Stimpack feature in combat likely works well for companions in general. Probably won't have a real companion until my second playthrough, am interested to see what the AI is like on something more advanced than a dog.
Cute to have along in the battlefield though.

Putting it away and pulling it out again repeatedly does not fix this. The fix is simple enough, back out to third person and back into first. Keep it in mind if you run into the problem because I was about to get pissed off
I had this happen to me randomly once also when I was going in and out of building mode but not holding back button long enough some times so it would pop me into 3rd prson instead. (I'm using an xbox controller on a PC)
same fix worked for me, just pop into 3rd person and back again, all betterz.

I've got well over 1k rounds of .38 and less than a 100 on everything else. Be nice if I could put these to use for awhile while I build up the supply for other calibers.
Dont most of the early guns, especially from raiders use .38? I also have a billion rounds of it because its on everything I kill, but all my good guns dont use it. I need .308 the most because my sniper rifle, and .44 or .45, cant remember which it is, for my modded pistol.
I modded a pipe pistol all uber just to have it spare on me in case I run out of other stuff since I have so much ammo for it, but I never have had to use it yet.
Anyone know if I find a new suit of power armor and its missing pieces, do I have to find those pieces somewhere else? like a shop or something? I found a crashed vertibird near the olivia dish station and its missing both its legs, but everything else on it is pimp. I thought at first it just means I had to take it back to my station and repair it, but the legs are not actually in the crafting menu to repair.

Not sure if you can buy them, but you can definitely scavenge and repair pieces. Some of the Raiders wear power armor with custom pieces that can be used. It is also possible to come across Brotherhood patrols when they move into town -- if one of them dies in combat, they can be harvested. I came across two Brotherhood and their Vertibird fighting some random enemy Veribird, and one of them died, so now I have two Power Suits of Brotherhood pieces, and one of random pieces put together.
Repairing them if they are broken requires having the broken pieces in the character inventory, then crafting on the rack and finding the piece. After it is repaired it can be equipped onto whichever frame is being worked on.
There seems to be a number of half-coated frames, as I found one in the back of a truck and one that was in a cage locked by a terminal I could not hack yet -- have to go back for that one in a level or two.

Thought I would post a new picture of how my dude looks now since coming across this cool ass raider chest also finally came across a sledgehammer modded that up to look tough.
I fucking love just slaying people then feasting on their corpses.
Looking grim now.

You also get pieces (or rather, upgraded pieces) from quests. I got a chest piece today (started the area last night but I went there about an hour before I had to go sleep and really getting through took about 2, mostly because I missed stuff and refuse to look shit like that up). I can't recall WHAT it is, but I faintly remember some something along the lines of "regenerates AP around radiation". Consider pretty much all the enemies that hit you cause radiation, it could have it's use. I haven't tested it's effectiveness. Possibility is there though. Get swamped by enemies steadily giving you radiation, you could potentially use vats more times and a lot quicker than normal.
This is the spot (spoilered in case you'd rather just find it on your own): http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Cambridge_polymer_labs
I just read the notes in that article. The thing about comparing the game world to the real word is hilarious. Real world it's DARPA, Fallout it's "Defense Experimental Research Projects Initiative" which is DERPI. No way that is unintentional.

Thanks for spoiler tag, I'm trying really hard not to look things up or read spoilers as I get the most joy out of bethesda games by finding shit on my own and being mindblown at whatever little scene they made for me to find. Like the small shit especially for example your trekking through the woods near the very edge of the map and come across a picnic all laid out with a nice blanket and wine n stuff, complete with a corpse and a mannequin.
haha
So discovering the BIGGER stuff like quest events and special gear is even more important!
on a side note, fallout is so awesome FORBES magazine has an article on character building. haha

I think when I get off work in a few hours I'm going to completely reroll my game and start over. I spent my first 20 hours confused and hoarding in sanctuary mostly but now that I have a better handle on how things work I think I'll just start fresh before I get to deep. I rolled an agility/perception character and not so happy with how I did the stats n all.
I do highly recommend everyone get the perk that lets you see your enemies resistances in VATS. it gives you way more info then just that. Tells you their exact level, general resistance to each damage type, etc. Lots of handy VATS info.

There are countless scenes like that. I really don't remember 3 or Vegas getting this heavy with showing how people died.. Even greater was one I came across earlier, it's not really spoiler worthy but I will just in case I came across some raider strong hold and while exploring, I found someone had put a teddy bear on the toilet seat, with reading glasses and holding a news paper I really love that shit. It's almost always a double take. You're running around fighting and looting and come across that and a few seconds later it kind of finally registers and you're like "Did I really just see that???"

Think that a big part of the issue with stats in this game is having less starting points than before.
Know that personally have spent more of my points from levels 1-25 on upping stats rather than buying perks -- still do not even have any perk points invested into weapons skills.
Started mainly focused on Intelligence and Luck though.

My issue is I went agility/perception and used charisma and luck as the dump off stats, so I was decent in a firefight no problem and could craft stuff and pick/jhack average stuff, but now that I'm playing I think I would rather have the local leader perk since I keep getting so settlement heavy, and less agility as the ninja perk was soemthing I could easily wait for until way later in the game and be fine. But since I picked CHA as my lesser stat it will take me a few levels just to raise it up TO local leader level and I dont want to wait. I've only completed like 6 actual quests I think so I can get back to where I am roughly pretty fast.
That and I burned a lot of resources playing with crafting and settlement shit. Stuff I wish I saved.

ive read but not actually tried it, if you build a bell and ring it all of the settlers will rally there and you can assign them to tasks.
