im curious about that too since i see mountains in every single picture and they don't look like the fun skyrim kind of mountians, more like the here's the edge of the map kind, but maybe it just has bad distance draw

So far this game has not let me down. It is every bit as fun as I hoped it would be. I haven't even really ran into any major glitch yet and I'm about 8-10 hours in. Probably going to find one in the next 5 minutes for saying that though.

I dunno, I haven't gotten very far from the vault yet. I've basically been running in between all the near by markers and exploring this little corner of wasteland. I'm sure it's a lot more massive than what I've revealed yet. I expect many many days worth of game play before I really starting getting to exposing all the corners of the map.

Tough to say at this point, seem to recall interviews saying that they were roughly the same size as Skyrim.

This link compares maps with Fallout 3 and shows the new map as quite a bit larger though.

http://www.techtimes.com/articles/104775/20151109/how-big-is-fallout-4s-map-we-walk-from-one-end-to-the-other.htm

Apparently 20 minutes to cross corner to corner on foot.

Fallout 4 has some more 'interior' feeling locations -- the skyline looks obstructed then I get up on something and find areas cut into the ground, campouts under overpasses, sub-villages on the edge of cities.

Would normally be willing to tfc up into the air and take a couple aerial shots of the map, but having too much fun exploring it from ground level first.

They did a good job with things like alley ways and little settlements built up hidden between buildings and such.  Really gets the right feeling.

Diamond city also feels well-contained without being too claustrophobic.

Then I wander through wreckage and find little spots of more open areas I like.

There is also a lot of watery areas I will have to come back and swim through once I get the perks to keep myself alive.  Have already found a journal holotape that references a locket to go retrieve from the bottom of a lake.

What kinda weapons and armor y'all rockin? I'm currently wandering around with the laser rifle you get from the BoS, a modded 10 mm pistol, a hunting rifle, a modded bolt sniper-rifle, and a combat rifle wearing the Cage armor and a metal helmet. Getting a little annoyed with how obscenely expensive ammo is and how little you find of the good kinds (Fusion cells/.45/.308 are the ones I'm always kinda running low on atm) and how infrequent merchants are. The singular good weapons/ammo dealer I've found is the one in diamond city, those robots operating the arboretum barely have anything.

I'm mostly using a heavily modded 10mm pistol for general enemy dispatching. Depending on the situation, I might also use a bolt sniper pipe gun or whatever it's called, or a sawn off shotgun. I have a hunting rifle but haven't really used it yet, still waiting on the pieces to turn it into a sniper. The 10mm seems to be a good all purpose weapon though. At the moment I'm dealing with a lot of ghouls (the enemies I hated the most from 3 :crankey: damn things come out of nowhere and make me jump constantly) and a few shots is all it really takes. As for armor, nothing special at all. I think army fatigues and leather pieces. I rarely worry much about armor in Fallout. I almost never use melee weapons, short of very heavy engagements I can usually kill whoever or whatever without taking much damage anyways.

Mostly, I'm using a Modded Pipe Pisol, two barreled shotgun(forget the exact name) and the energy rifle you get in Concord

I havnt gotten into the weapon modding system much. ive played for 4 hours and still cant mod my 10Mm pistol except for the grip

Word of advice, when you're in the modding menu you can tag the items you wanna build for your weapon (say...a long barrel and a medium scope for the hunting rifle) and it'll mark items that deconstruct into the components you need with a magnifying glass. Super convenient for finding some of the rarer components like adhesive or screws.

You gotta start collecting all that junk. At first, I was behaving like I always did in Fallout and just taking the shit worth 10+ caps a pound and leaving everything else, then I unlocked gun nut and got ready to start modding and found out how important all that junk I'd been passing is worth. Start taking it all, pick a mod space you'll use (I use the rocket gas station or whatever) make frequent trips back to drop off all the junk you picked up. Heavy items that only give you steel can be left if you really want to, it's abundant enough to be easy to find, but there are a lot of components that seem to be a lot more rare and are vital to most of the modifications. Screws for example are becoming a huge pain in my ass.

For weapons, have been carrying a (non-auto)rifle and pistol of each type of ammo I have.  Nothing too special.
Recently got a named Relentless Machete off of a legendary radroach though.
Am not built for melee, but it is hilarious to use -- when I score a critical, it recharges my action points.  So charge someone, VATS, crit on the last hit, VATS again.

Armour is just Army Fatigues for Strength and Agility, and whatever layered pieces I pick up; just got a chest that gives 15% resistance to ghouls.
Using a military hat and a pair of sunglasses to up my Perception for VATS

My problem is that I'm level 11 and have not spent a single perk into damage skills yet -- been upping my stats and carrying capacity more than anything.  The hoarding junk for materials is real.
Thinking I may specialize in pistols instead of rifles -- put a scope on my laser pistol before I got the Brotherhood rifle, and it kind of became my favourite for a while.

Except when I talk people, then I gotta dress up purdy for the Charisma bonus.

Reasonably certain that the mountains are the border of the map.

Finally got mine to work, was crashing instantly upon start up.

I have a Nvidia GTX 970 & I had to downgrade my driver to 353.62 to be able to play this game. Honestly this is a really shit launch for a game so many problems for so many people but finally I am able to play.

No issues so far but the only thing that seems to bug me the most atm is that weapons will vanish into thin air when you holster them, just a minor issue I know but I want to see my fucking gun holstered on my belt dammit!

Only been playing for 1-2 hours this is my dude so far.

Nothing special but I really like the cool "Mad Max" vibe I got going on.

Plan on going melee, being drugged out as much as possible getting as many addictions as I can & being a wasteland douche to people

I finally got to mod my hunting rifle. Medium scope, upgraded barrel (I think the second to the last) full stock.. This gun is so great that if this were an online game I'd be bitching about how overpowered it is. 1 shot kills from so far away your gun fire doesn't even register as alerting the enemy. :yesnod: Highly recommend a hunting rifle sniper early in the game to deal with those long range targets.

Indeed. It wrecks just as much as it did in New Vegas (where I used it exclusively as a sniper rifle until I could afford an AM rifle). I hate how every single one of the fucking things I've found is a short barreled hunting rifle. Without the range it's barely worth it. Getting a better barrel, stock, receiver, and scope make it soooooo much better.

I think I'm also gonna look into armor a bit more in this Fallout, I just found my first pocketed piece. I don't care much about protection, but every little bit extra I can carry is all the better. I'm picking up so much junk in any given "small area" or "quest zone" that I am having to sort through it all and decide what I really need to keep and what needs to be tossed, and none of this at all based on selling the stuff for caps. This is all just materials for crafting and stuff

Speaking of which, anyone found any weapon that can be broken down to more than just steel? I have a huge collection of 10mm's and pipe guns but they all just break down to steel, even the modified ones. Are there any you can scavenge screws and shit from?

Scrapper perk at Intelligence 5 should do that.

Thanks, for some reason it didn't enter into my mind that a perk would effect that. I thought it was odd how every damn thing I was offered in scrapping weapons and such, was the most abundant materials available. Seemed pointless.

:zomgwtf: Also I'd like to take this time to say fuck screws. Unless there's some perk that also allows you to scavenge more components from items, this is bullshit. This wasn't ancient times or anything, screws are everywhere and as plentiful as steel. Why the hell are they like some rare commodity? Even silver is more plentiful. The fuck.

As a side note to all new players just starting, take every damn desk fan, globe and hot plate you see. You'll thank me later.

Lol fuck them for making you wait for a physical item (disc) only to go home and realize there is only about 5gb of data on the disc, and you have to download the other 25gb or so. Depending where you live and your internet that could take you days. My install looks like it's gonna be around 8 hours which is absolutely insane after paying $60 dollars for what's technically and physically is only 1/6th of the game....

Say I was in the mil somewhere where you have to pay for every minute of internet, could you imagine how much that shit would cost to download the rest of the game and how long it would take? Fuck my ass might her hit by a mortar round before I even get to see the opening scene....What a bunch of crooks.

Gta5 came with what 6 discs? Why couldn't these assholes do that. Shit 4 dl discs would do that or a single blu ray.

I know it's just a game and I'm not truly angry about if but I see why people pirate shit. At least torrents don't mislead you on how much time you need to set aside to acquire the whole file.

I should've researched it more, I knew there was some DL to it - after you bought the game (the people at the video game specialty store had no fucking clue when I mentioned it) - but only 1/5~ of the game in the physical copy? Stupid as fuck  Why is it no company except CD Projekt RED can release a game without

A) bullshit required internet annoyance device (Gta V gets the  on this )
and/or
B) bullshit faux-physical copy (GTA V did this right, stick the 7 god damn dvds in the box like people expect.)

It doesn't prevent piracy, it encourages it...

It probably does make them money though.

Bethesda is being run more and more like money hog EA every year..

At least they still have some good developers at their core.
