I don't. I'm always so lost and have no clue wtf I'm doing.

ive never really used, or liked VATS at all. it seemed clunky, and random. overall it was way easier and quicker to manually shoot enemies with my mouse.
maybe the change will encourage me to use it, but i dunno. its a unique feature but it always seemed intrusive to me.
in fallout 3 and NV, even though shots did technically have a random amount of stray, it was too small to matter unless you were were a solid distance away.
so there was just no reason to use VATS
it took longer to pause the game, choose my target, and watch the animation of my character missing the target, than it did to just shoot it in the groin myself

I only used it in large shoot outs to quickly take out a few of their number.

I use it constantly. I have to make myself cut back on VATS.
Its just so useful for strategic crippling. Or shooting their gun right out of their hands.

I was a big fan of VATS myself, makes combat while really stoned and without a mouse a breeze.
On a different Bethesda note I finally got the Morrowind Graphic Overhaul working!
Bad ass I say. My computer I pretty shitty so I have to keep it relatively low still but it looks much nicer even on low settings.
Experimenting with all the options is pretty fun too, though it can be annoying when you turn something on that drops your FPS a ton.
Last night I accidentally turned the graphics enhancement up most of the way and I was getting like 10-20 fps so now it is on minimum and runs perfect.

if your computer is nice enough, some of the graphical mods for Morrowind are just insane.
i'm not sure which overhaul i used in particular, but it had a slider for fog distance, and i turned it all the way up and could see Vivec all the way from seyda neen(the starting village)

I highly recommend trying to play as much vanilla morrowind as you can handle before modding. I have been playing it for years and still love it.
The mods can make the game significantly different though so it is nice to already have played the game unmodded.
The Morrowind Graphics Overhaul by Ornitocopter is what I am using, here is a link for anyone interested: Morrowind Overhaul
It is pretty simple installation, install morrowind + the two expansions in the right order, then download and unzip the overhaul into the morrowind directory.
Then you just open the installer for the overhaul and if done right it should detect all the files and walk you through a mostly automated installation.
Took me a couple trys as the overhaul wouldn't recognize my morrowind files, but eventually after re installing it a couple times into new places I got it to work.

Here is the trailer for the newest version of the overhaul:
I like how it keeps the games artsy graphics but still smooths them out and improves much of the game.

that overhaul looks amazing. it would be badass if they did a side-to-side comparison. it would be so different
i would even go as far as to say that modded morrowind looks just as good as vanilla oblivion, or better.
you can see the tip of the red mountain all the way from the coast FFS

thank you for that little how-to as I had never modded successfully before. Sounds almost identical to cracking a game
good looking trailer

it is. its literally the same thing, all you do is merge folders
morrowind really taught me how filing systems work. i started playing morrowind when i was 13, like 2 years after it came out, and the mod community was thriving at its peak. it was very educational. now its even easier, with mod-manager apps like TESNexus
before that, i didn't know anything about computers except for mine-sweeper, calculators, and the internet

I am just so cool I say all of the things

That is similiar to how I have learned about computers and filing over the years gresh. Cracking games and torrenting
I am only just getting into modding honestly, unless you count garrys mod.

i'm also looking forward to the new construction kit.
every time a new ES or Fallout game gets released, the construction kit gets more streamlined and easy to use.
and since you can alter the world in-game (the scrapping - and - building feature), its like... woah. you can mod and play the game at the same time....

Yeah same here, should be awesometastic. I love the idea of having my own settlements and pimping them out to get shop NPC's and stuff.
I re downloaded New Vegas last night and am excited to get back into that for a bit along with Morrowind until I can get a new PC and Fallout 4 is releases.
I need my bethesda fix

Turtletotem said: The map seems wonderful! You can look so far in the distance.. I loved that in Skyrim as well. I hope my machine can run it as well, but I'll probably need a new videocard and extra ram to get the full experience.
I have no idea how awesome the pre-war stuff is going to be, it seemed a bit short, but it is a nice touch. The juxtaposition of the bright, colourful pre-war world and the first time you step out of the vault will probably leave a powerful impression, if Bethesda's past works are anything to go by. We'll see, but damn it is going to be great!
Did you guys see how the dog interacts with the environment? Awesome. And the kill-cam looked way better, and the blood actually looked like blood instead of paint splatters You saw when he killed the molerats? That looked way more statisfying then it did in previous fall out games.
Pretty sure the pre-war stuff is just going to be character creation and a quick setting for the story to start. It looked to me like you pretty much create your character, poke around your house for a moment, then the nukes start dropping, you run to the shelter and get in. Everyone dies except you and you somehow were asleep for 200 years but didn't realize it. So I'm guessing you wont get much time to poke around the neighborhood before the nukes drop if at all, other then the run to the shelter.
