It is hard for me not to get excited over Fallout
even if Fallout 4 was pretty much all mechanics no story

someone in the youtube comments claims further 'known' information so far includes Vault 76 being a control Vault
so we won't be frozen in any weird experiments this time, presumably

The Fallout wiki lists existing Vault 76 info as:
Quote:

The Vault-Tec terminal in the Citadel lists Vault 76 as a "control" vault, with 500 occupants. The vault was designed to open 20 years after a nuclear war, and was among the seventeen known control vaults, meaning that it was used as a baseline to compare to experimental vaults. It is also mentioned in one of the alien captive recorded logs (no.13) recorded by Giles Wolstencroft, a Vault-Tec official who was abducted while inspecting the vault's construction site. In Fallout 4, the newsreader in the prologue mentions Vault 76 debuting in 2076 in honor of America's tercentenary when discussing Vault-Tec's plans to expand.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Vault_76

So it looks like we are coming out of the Vault 20 years after the bombs this time
Maybe Bethesda is looking to do a sort of official Survival Fallout in the vein of Frost and Dust?
:pipesmoke:

They are running with a second studio now,
so there is no guarantee that this is even being done by the team who did Fallout 3, 4 and the TES series
but suppose time will make clear on the 10th

am still playing Elder Scrolls Online
and have the sense that TES 6 is in some measure of production
prolly being focused in Elsweyr

all speculation on my part,
but ESO has been out for several years now
and has only let us visit one city (Dune) at the very edge of Elsweyr
while providing full maps, in some instances multiple, of the other provinces
the most recent expansion even provided the entire main island of the Summerset Isles
so Elsweyr is just this conspicuously absent area, with no announced plans to be worked on for ESO either

tho also personally wondering how integrated VR will be in either Fallout 76 or TES 6
Fallout VR and Skyrim VR were relatively well received, but show the glaring limitations of porting titles to VR
rather than building them for the medium

Lol skyrim VR was fun as fuck but so absurd hahaha, I nearly broke my friends equipment riding on a horse waving around my warhammer 10 times a second like it was made of paper

ESO never quite did it for me unfortunately, some of the quest lines are definitely great even - but it doesn't have that scrolls feel for me really

Well, Obsidian only added the OPTION of a survival mode in FONV, and Bethesda dodnt really like that and removed it in the next game. So I doubt it will be a survival game. But it seems like it would be centered around  a more desolate and traumatized world. Hopefully it will be a bit darker than Fallout 4 which just seemed straight up cartoony to me. I loved fallout 1 and 2 because they really had the vibe that you were in post-apocalyptic America. It was dark, and desolate, and depraved, and hopeless. You could feel the aftermath of the devastation still ringing through the air. Fallout 3 and 4 just felt, as I said, cartoony. There was comedy in the original games but the newer games were just really not takin the story seriously it seemed.

ESO is certainly more of an MMO with a Elder Scrolls skin on it than a real Scrolls game
as such, it is my only MMORPG that gets any play (unless Dark Souls 3 and the Dark Souls remaster count due to online play)
through that lens, am able to enjoy it

do have some objections -- efforts to make it more like the main series have made some of the game more bland
the different classes have been slowly rebalanced so that everyone can do everything in a TES manner
but it makes end-game feel a lot more limited and less interesting

it lets me log on and chat about Elder Scrolls lore with other TES nerd
sometimes leave it for several weeks and go make a Skyrim character and shitpost on the official Skyrim forums
both scratch the same itch in that sense

Of course, still playing Fallout 4 with mods
in fact, my mod folder is actually larger than the actual installed game folder itself now

Am actually hoping 76 (Soldier 76 reporting for duty) it is something in the vein of Frost and Dust
mechanically, grew to enjoy the Settlement system and playing on Survival settings
building up my own outposts to travel while scavenging lets me zone out for hours

would not be against them aiming for a story-based title that fleshes out some of the early post-war
but not even sure if Bethesda's main team has a dedicated writer on staff anymore
and typically invest more time making up my own stories in the Wasteland
:nerd:

Did you go back and play after they revamped Survival mode and released it as a patch?
it really changes the mechanics of the game, far better than the original Survival setting just having heal over time Stimpacks
they even released an official Survival pack for Skyrim remaster afterward -- got it while it was free, but they make money off it now
tho in Skyrim you also have to manage things like body temperature, which could hold relevance to a nuclear winter (?)

most of the people who frequent the official forums (at least those that chat with me in the character threads)
prefer Survival mode as the best way to play the game
tho a lot of us, myself included, use mods to break some of the less-forgiving mechanics
personally have to be able to save anywhere or just break down and can't play
having to find a sleeping bag or mattress or make it to a settlement just to save drives me crazy

the lack of fast travel feels a bit better in Fallout 4 than Skyrim tho
because the Vertibird travel system makes long trips more manageable

Hardcore fans like survival mode. It's been that way since NV. But they make up a small portion of the customers. Most people prefer not to play survival, and centering the game mechanics on survival wouldn't really bode well for a mainstream audience I feel, which is the exact audience they cater to these days.

That is a fair point, Bethesda seems to want to draw in/draw back Dark Souls players to a degree
but it would be a bit unreasonable for them to build an entire game for the smaller portion of the audience

There was an interview with Todd Howard a couple months ago that said something about their next game being the last one with their existing animation system
but was personally expecting this year's E3 announcement to be something about the "Starfield" copyright they keep playing with
so now not sure -- maybe this is them knocking something out just to make sure they can launch to Nintendo Switch
before buckling down with a more fleshed out title

Tho, the Wiki does mention that Mothership Zeta referenced Vault 76 with the Alien Captive logs
so they could be planning some sort of tie-in there
but that would be somewhat discouraging, as the Alien portion of Fallout really seems to be focusing more on the comedic end of things
x_x

went into the Wiki to dig out the Alien Captive log
reference of Alien abduction from the Vault 76 construction site

Quote:

Alien captive recorded log 13
Transcript

[Alien babble]
Hey now. No reason to get yourselves worked up. Whatever you need, I'm going to tell it to you.
[Alien babble]
Well, I'm pretty sure you want me to talk into this thing, so here goes. My name is Giles Wolstencroft...I'm the current Assistant Chief Executive Officer of the Vault-Tec Corporation. I was inspecting the construction site of Vault 76 when I was captured by what I can only assume are alien beings from another world. I'm not sure what they want from me, or what they will do to me, but whatever they need, I will readily provide. Perhaps if I can bridge our communication gap and establish a rapport with them, we can enter into an exclusive trade agreement.
In fact, instead of talking to this damn machine, I'm going to attempt to address them directly. On behalf of the Vault-Tec Corporation, I'd like to extend a heartfelt welcome to you. Wait... you don't need that...wait!
[Electronic shock]

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Alien_captive_recorded_log

so perhaps an alien artifact located in the Vault has some play in the story
or maybe the aliens return to abduct the Vault Dwellers
:tinfoil:

Might be cool,
Too bad Bethesda is developing it.

I wish they would get Obsidian back on board. It seems to be in West Virginia. I would've loved one in Arizona under Legion control.

I don't care where it takes place as long as it's Obsidian not Bethesda developing it.

Obsidian is likely going to be pretty focused on Pillars 2 DLC for the forseeable future
so think that seeing them take a further look into furthering the 1/2/New Vegas story is sadly not having good odds

with my paranoid hat on, think there to be a fair bit of bad blood between them somewhere
Skyrim VR ended up launching to Steam on the day that Pillars of Eternity 2 was originally supposed to launch
if Pillars 2 did not have its launch pushed back a month the day before Skyrim VRs date was announced
would actually presume the reason it got delayed was Bethesda trying to overshadow Obsidian and Obsidian pulling back to maintain some playerbase at launch

Apparently it's a clone of that grinding MMO style game Rust. According to a leak from a while back. Tough pill to swallow lol.

z-z

am seeing the 'insider leaks' about it being along the lines of Rust too
that may kill it for me; enjoy the survival and base building in Fallout 4
but not enormously fond of competitive online versions

got my hopes up because this is supposed to actually be BGS working on it
but if they are branching out to other genres am not necessarily going to catch the bus
suppose they will capitalize on the branding if they can tho

c'est la vie
