PF-Tek / SGFC: Cakes and entire tub goes dry overnight (90% humidity, maybe lower)

And it looks fairly dry, especially the cakes.
I mist/fan 3 or 4 times a day, don't really have time to do it more, not to mention the room they're fruiting in is the same room I have other still-colonizing jars in there; want to keep traffic in and out of there to a minimum as a contam-defense.
I was having problems with not enough FAE in the FC (plenty of holes in it), but humidity was perfect. The mycelium on the cakes was growing over the dunk/roll layer of vermiculite.
So I put a SMALL computer fan on top of the chamber. Not installed into it. Just resting on top at an angle, to suck CO2 out through the holes, slowly. On the slowest setting.
Problems reversed. Beautiful amounts of FAE, obviously... but coming up dry overnight (they stay perfectly humid during the day when I mist/fan).
I've currently moved the fan off of the tub, and just set it down a few feet away. Don't want to suck the moisture out of the tub, but... it's a small, stagnant room, and it (previously, before the PC fan) smelled like rubbing alcohol, ozium, and Lysol. Even though it's been WEEKS, maybe months since I cleaned it with those things. Very stagnant. One of the reasons I decided to introduce the fan in the first place.
Anyway, I think I'll be alright, but thinking too much without consulting experts can lead to the death of a project. So... better safe than sorry?
Should I change anything? On about day 5 after dunking/rolling/birthing. No pins yet. But no contams either and the cakes smell very healthy.

yeah, remove the fan. was your SGFC elevated so air can come through the bottom holes? you could also check and see if the perlite was getting dry, or if it is clogging any of thebottom holes.

It's elevated on empty/clean jars. I'm not sure how I would go about checking if the perlite, especially the lower layers, are dry or not. Just... reach in and grab a handful?

just stick your finger an inch or 2 into the perlite to check. do you have some pics of your setup? a sgfc should give you very good FAE if its built and set up correctly!

Or play it safe and just put your sgfc in the shower to re hydrate. Add a couple inches of perlite if need be. Switch to #4mother earth perlite if need be.

I felt the perlite. It's nice and damp. All the way down.
I took 7 pics.

EDIT: Looks nicer with IMGUR's formatting. Very high-res; click zoom.

(keep in mind this is not a picture of them being too dry. I just got done misting them an hour or so ago. this is just my setup for reference)

Should have known when you said "plenty of holes". People stress building it properly because hundreds of designs have been tested and a " proper sgfc" works the best.

It should have 1/4 inch holes drilled 2 inches apart on all sides. Building it "to spec" makes a difference.

Well, the drill I used was an old piece of crap, and it took an extremely long time to complete... so yeah, I guess I am guilty of getting a little sloppy.
But would you say I have not enough holes? Or too many?
