Bored - Pickle jar
    #21750434 - 06/01/15 08:59 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

I had this ugly pickle jar I was keeping around for some unknown reason..

Filled that bitch up with some WBS and its still in the pressure cooker.

2 hr 30 min PC time.  I will do the inoculation tomorrow morning.  Cheers to being bored

I figured that, to heat the center of a regular quart jar to the proper temp takes 90 min, I should put it in for way longer since its over 3x as thick.

Yep. I prefer to do the minimal amount of work and get canopies.  I know I am lazy when it comes to this hobby.. I just have not found a reason to not be.

I use plastic caps with micro pour tape

Inoculate with LC's made with aluminium foil lids, all multispore

I sterilize my coir because getting it to 170f seems too much of a task

I use coir..

What is that, a gallon? If you can make the lid work well they would be great receiving jars for g2g.

I don't do g2g, that would imply that I would actually do some SAB work.

I just wanna inoculate it and grow it out lol

Yes, I think it is a gallon, its the biggest jar they have.

If you start from spore gallon jars have a tendency to stall.

Best to use lc,g2g, or slurry/LI

Haha.  I almost pulled my hair out with this hobby dealing with spores for years.  I always said it's easiest so K.I.S.S.!!!

I finally leaped to agar and can't look back.

G2g is super easy though.  There is a reason it has been standard operating procedure for decades now.  Try it out.  You will be surprised with the ease and super quick clonization times I bet.

I soaked these for an extra 2 hours.. Getting ready for the long haul.

I used half gallon jars unknowingly for 7 months.  I always wondered why my yields were so high.

I have a nice mix of quart and half gallon now though.  I use 7 half gallons for my PE tubs ^_^

Hell yeah. I've got a bunch of wide mouth quarts and half gallons, but I'm gonna start using regular mouth quarts so I can make grain slurries. I think I've finally gotten the hang of LC and that's a real game changer for me. I've been doing it the old fashioned way, inoculating quarts with agar wedges and doing g2g, but fuck. LC straight into the half gallons seems so much easier. Plus, at the pace the LC is moving, it's probably faster than waiting for an agar wedge to colonize a quart.

I have got into too many fights on this forum about people saying "You need agar to get far", and other quotes like that..  I have got by on my LC method just fine with minimal contamination's.  Only time I fucked up was when I tried to clone in my SAB.  Other wise I have lost like 1 out of the last 90 jars due to random factors.

I just make 10 LC's with spores and watch them, pick the best looking and go.  Ain't no magic here

Edit :  I will say though, this fucking KSSS Syringe I got produces the most vigorous and white mycelium I have ever had.
