side pins come when the substrate shrinks and creates a perfect microclimate between the tub walls and the sub! when you use a liner the liner shrinks with the sub

In a sense, you are right. But on the other hand, the substrate will pin where it's most favorable. I believe Azur has proven that already. He never uses a liner and he gets minimum sidepins. Of course he never goes past the first flush but still the pins will set where conditions are most favorable which should be the top of the substrate regardless of any other circumstances.

IMO/E his lack of side pins is due to him not going to 2nd flush. you dont need a flat or smooth surface to avoid side pins on 1st flush.

Most cultivators don't go past 2 flushes. Who really cares if you get sidepins on the 2nd flush anyway? You're going to be pulling the sub out of the tub regardless. It has also been my experience that if you dunk the substrate after the first flush, the myc loses its grip on the liner anyhow.

Those Doc T tubs can be kind of finicky, good job on that flush.

that was my first thought too! Do you live in a humid area bangnbounce or did you have to mist a lot "like the rest of us"?

Not very humid, thermostat was @ 73F during fruiting. I would mist very generously before work, and again once I got back. I tried to make sure I could see water beads on the inside walls, if I didn't I would mist. Not sure if that is 'proper' protocol but it worked for me. Never had to fan though. No more SGFC or cakes for me. This took up way less space and effort.

Mist on the walls provide nothing. You want to make sure you are promoting proper evaporation off the substrate, that is what is important.

Not strictly on the walls, but all around. Wouldn't the mist technically bead up and drip down on the sub, then evaporate?

If you don't use a liner than it might but it's best to mist the substrate directly if it needs it.

Interesting. I thought theoretically that general evaporation within the tub would have an overall effect on all that reside inside of it. Not sure if that made sense lol but always nice to get pointers. Thanks.

Also if anyone is interested in what I used (grains, spores, sub) let me know, I'll post it. I know allot of the mycologists in here don't like buying sterile stuff off the net; but I just wanna help and let yall know how I did it and how it worked for me. Since I'm such a noob I feel like I almost shouldn't have had success, but I did. And by the way there were two of those tubs, one produced a tad less than the other. If yall want more pics just ask, I got plenty. Thanks for being cool dudes.
