Sorry if I'm asking a lot, i learn through asking questions more than out of a book or instructions (they do help for sure though...)
---Monotub tek- (ok, cool. seems easy enough. Just put the light in the closet close to the tubs, and do an on/off cycle... ---Agar tek (I don't understand exactly why or how to separate strains or how to see the difference, what i should look for, what to save, how to save... THIS I need more research on FOR SURE.... I dont want to have to pour anything, to where I make a mess, or have a chance to spread whatever...... Still researching AGAR stuff, but seeing how i want CONSISTENCY, i've chosen this because of failure rates.) ---H-poo in the monotub(s), No casing layer (you said I don't need one? Isnt casing for stopping bacteria from entering the substrate? I feel that could be helpful when switching from Tape to Polyfil?)
***You said make a post when i know what i want to do... This is what i want to do***
Edit: agar POWDER?? http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=agar

Lets step by step it
You dont want the pre poured trays, the agar you listed is agar agar which is fine but you will need a nutrient like malt or potatoe flakes
Look on the sponsor page, you can buy them mixed in powder form with the nutrient added
Also you will want to have 2 types on hand to prevent your mycelium from getting lazy

Agar is the gel making part its not nutritious so it won't break down like gelatin or pectin would. You add ypd or malt extract to make the agar viable for something to grow on it. Man middle school biology is really falling apart in the world

This agar thing is slightly overwhelming... Still trying though. All i've been doing for three hours is figuring out HOW to do agar right with different teks, and if i need to some sort of second jar to colonize or if i can just mix the agar with honey or malt extract, have it grow mycel, and add it to the box. If it's as easy as agar, honey, water, and adding it to the box directly (instead of colonizing a jar into cakes)
So if i do this, what's the point of the petri dishes?

The point is to start with a clean culture and then to expand your spawn before going to bulk.

Yes... So would I expand it in the jar like that? if Agar is much more colonized , I'm worried about making TOO MUCH, and adding TOO MUCH to the tub directly from the agar... Do i need a step between Agar and adding to Bulk?
@bohisatta, I see in your "spores are for microscopy only" link it says to transfer to PF cakes, but someone said NOT to do that... you can just suck it up with water into a syringe to PF it, right? Also, are Spore prints or Liquid better for agar

Agar to grain to bulk

You have to use different lids to use agar with pf tek jars. You skip the dry verm barrier and use a gas exchange lid

Is there a better or easier option? i think you mean GE lid on the JAR and not the Monotubs, right?

You could buy all your stuff including pc and spores and just do a ms ( multi spore) in grain and then to bulk in a mono
Learn agar while you do your first grow

Because I'm using h-poo (nearly free)If i still to Brown Rice/Verm jars, can i just transplant that to H-poo and have no issues?
also, Multispore will make "new" kinds of spores I can name or whatever right? (liquid, or prints??)

Where I live, I can order spore syringes and have them delivered all day long but I can't order just empty syringes because of local laws. It sounds stupid but it's the truth.

Typically we just open the lid and drop a wedge of agar in with a sterilized scalpel. Youll need to make and learn to use a still air box for this kind of stuff.
I live in NY too. You can buy syringes at pharmacy with no paper in this state.
But they only sell insulin syringes, much too small for our purposes. If you are working with agar you wont need syringes ever tho.
