Plus you know youre getting the right proportions and ingredients with midwest. They give results (see ebay).
You get stressed out about getting the right type of coir, screwing up the recipe, bad water etc but mid west sells stuff premade to WORK.
So can you save 30$ over 5 years diy? Ya but folks like me just wanna get from point a to b asap and midwest seems to have everything to do so. No extra stuff to buy!
To each their own, I just think buying pre made stuff takes the fun out of learning
In the long run it will always be cheapest to learn how to do things yourself, I personally like to look at a project and think yeah I did that

What if instead of inoculating jars etc and wasting money on those (which break) I can just make a grow chamber that grows mycellium... THEN i can put it into a bulk, case it and cover it which I can then spread throughout other buckets? I think I'd only ever have to replace the substrate and case?
I think you have a whole lotta research to do man. I dont think you really understand those terms too well
Short answer, no.

How would you plan on sterilizing that grow chamber? You can't grow spawn in an unsterile environment.

Research...research...research... follow a tek to the T...if you don't feel like it's possible for you to follow a tek without deviating then a kit ain't really gonna help you either...

You get stressed out about getting the right type of coir, screwing up the recipe, bad water etc but mid west sells stuff premade and preselected to WORK. I just washed hands, open the bag and inoculate. They all did fine except the one i mistakingly shook.
So can you save 30$ over 5 years diy? Ya but folks like me just wanna get from point a to b asap and midwest seems to have everything to do so. No extra stuff to buy!
If you do a minimal amount of research, those things you are stressed about are non issue.
But 30$ ? Over 5 years?
Here is a perfect example. Midwest sells 2 spawn bags for 20$..
I pay about 50$ per case of 100 spawn bags, so I pay about 50 cents per bag and use maybe 1.50 worth of grain per 5lb spawn bag.
So 20$ makes me at least 10 to 15, 5lb spawn bags... which at thier price would cost 100-150$
They sell a 2$ brick of coir for 10$. 1$ worth of casin mix for 20$
I run about 20 tubs per month at a total cost of *maybe* 5$ per tub.
At the prices midwest grow kits marks up it would cost 200$ in spawn bags and 400$ in substrate to do my grow.
So by my calculations, I save 500$ per month, and if I continue to grow at this rate, I would save 30,000$ in the next 5 years by not buying from midwest grow kits.

Also, if your stuff contaminates you have to order more and wait for it to arrive. I simply dump out and start over...asap.

Just a few q.... I'm gonna go with the PF Tek, and I'm not sure how much I want to grow... so a few questions to east stress are,
--How many 1/2 pint wide-mouths should I do per-tub, and how big of a pressure cooker should I use to do that?? --If I can get two tubs per pressure cooker, that's fine. --Can i just "feed" the substrate with brown rice flower and moisture and case it again?? (verm holds water) or do I have to re-do the whole thing? (which is fine too...) --I know b+ tend to be not too strong, I'm no spring chicken... I've done my fair share of things. I love visuals but dont like the "food poisoning" gut feeling and body creeps most shrooms tend to give me. I do them specifically for the visuals open and closed eyes. Is there a better strain for this, or do you still recommend b+?
------ side note: what is the advantage of spawn bags over pressure cookers and jars

It depends on what spawn/substrate ratio your wanting to use.
You gotta start over...It'll be fun tho.
B+ and Golden Teacher are always the go to recommendation for beginners. It doesn't matter too much unless your trying to grow a PE variety. I personally like growing Golden Teacher (plenty visual).

-"I know b+ tend to be not too strong"
Yea this total misinformation. B+ is psilocybe cubensis, the same species as golden teacher, mexi cube, PE, A+ , treasure coast etc.
All cubensis have the same growing parameters abd when grown from spore have the same potential for yeild and potency, they just vary cosmetically. If grown from spore B+ might be super potent one grow and garbage the next..
Just ignore those sort of statements. Some of the most potent mushrooms I have ever grown were B+

Ok, so lets go with the Goldens (i've done them)
Well, I just found a pack of 16 4oz wide-mouth jars (exactly as needed) in my house i had no idea i had, so a pressure cooker it is I guess...
Question- the tek posted says 2:1:1 Verm/Rice Fl/Water 2 cups, 1 cup, 1 cup, correct? It also says to do 5 jars. That is one tub, I assume 10 jars would be 2 tubs? ad how big should the tubs be? 55QT?
--Best place to buy a pressure cooker (size?) (recommendations?) --Best place to buy substrates and whatnot? We have a bulk landscaping place, but I assume i wouldn't want to buy all of that in the same place... i'm not sure what their prices are. Whatever it is, the 250 will cover most things i need.
"if grown from spore B+ might be super potent one grow and garbage the next.."
Looking for consistency..

That's the pressure cooker I use, only newer. It'll be a little overkill for pftek, but it will work. It'll work well for bulk when you get there.
The jars for pftek are normally the 8oz. Wide mouth. Those will work, you'll just need more of them if your gonna spawn to bulk.

So if I go with agar, do I just do this instead of cakes? I don't understand what "plates" are.
I'm assuming it's basically the same as cakes where you put it on the substrate and case, correct?

Agar is used to make clean cultures and isolate genetics

so... basically i would do Agar, then print them to the BR/Verm jars, and proceed as normal
Is there a way to store these spores so i don't have to do this over and over every time
Edit: this would make it NOT PF tek anymore, right? what bucket tek would i want to use instead if this is the case? OR can I just add some of this to sterilized jar (in an airless box) instead of innoculating with a syringe, and continue as normal
