Has anyone tried growkits?

There's a place called Midwest Grow-kits... Anyone have experience with this? They have all sort of stuff that is basically a complete set up with all the equipment needed and lights, etc....
Would it be cheaper/easier to buy all the stuff myself? SWIM has about 200-300 dollars to get started aside from spores... easiest Tek to do and start if SWIM doesn't use a kit? SWIM is looking for bulk-ish... Maybe a QP-HP dry per flush (How many Buckets?) SWIM loves the idea of hobby mushies and wants to put in some work... Research has been rather frustrating

Yes. Save the money or use it to buy a nice big quality pressure cooker.
They are a rip off.
The nice thing about this hobby is its dirt cheap, some jars, plastic totes, substrate/grains..
The only expensive item is a pressure cooker, after that maybe a flow hood if you choose to use one, but there is very little equiptment involved that ypu couldnt buy at wallmart or lowes

Dude...fuck a grow kit...with your 300 buy some spores, a pressure cooker, some grains, some totes, and then use your money you have left to buy some pizza...oh yeah and a dehydrator... I spent 40 on spores 6 months ago and still have more than enough... anyways yeah, if your reading comprehension is on par then read the shit out of this site and handle it...

So what really is the basic stuff SWIM will need? whenever SWIM reads through a tek it's a lot to see @ one time and SWIM gets confused.... But once SWIM knows what to do, SWIM has it down

No you will just guarantee that your PF jars are sterile, and you will move to grain quickly anyways more than likely.

Don't let it overwhelm you...it's really simple...try the PF tek for your first grow...or if you feel that you can follow directions pick a bulk tek and use grains...this is not a hard hobby...it's extremely rewarding... just read up on the process...watch RR's videos...cleanliness, patience, and the ability to follow directions is all ya need to succeed.

What's a cheap and easy tek to start with for bulk? Thanks for the vote of confidence!

yes, but it's worth it in my opinion. I went to grains right off the bat and didn't have any problems. That being said, if you are not trying to deal with the pressure cooker and stuff you can always do the PF tek for extremely cheap. It is idiot proof and will get you mushrooms if you follow the instructions. Here's a couple writeups and videos on how to do it.

8 1/2 pint or 1/4 pint wide mouth shoulderless mason jars for canning
1 bag of garden vermiculate

A pressure cooker or a large pot with lid

Coir, but look around a little and read alot . I have been lurking here for over a year, every time I search it leads me to a new question and a new search.

I just used their 5 grain and rye bags. 1 5 grain flourished and one contamed after i shook it which is what youre not supposed to do. The ryes did ok but were slower, but i spawned all three to bulk and they are all coming along amazingly! Fluffy thick white clouds and many pins!
I highly recommend it because you dont have to deal with the stress of sterilization- the worst part of growing! Let the pros do it and the rest is easy, just be patient!
Get two bags of 5 grain, 1 brick of coir, 1 bag of verm from midwest and a clear 66qt tote and a bag of polyfill from walmart. Follow d5050 coir tek and you have a years worth of shrooms for like 50$.
No shame in doing things the cheap and easy way.

Yeah, but your not buying the kit. Your doing bulk, just letting some "pro" do the sterilizing for you.
OP, if you have that much money to invest you can buy everything you need to grow 5+ years of shrooms and still have some Money leftover.

Sterilizing is the easy part man, its just running your jars/bags thru a pressure cooker cycle. Easier than making a pizza.
Trouble is if you then go innoculating it with a syringe (which are rarely cleam enough to put to grain) you make yourself vulnerable to whatever contamination.
The hard part of spawn production isnt being able to sterilize, but to be able to open up that sterile grain to inoculate with clean culture and making transfers to expand it, which takes some practice

You could also buy their kits. But I find my method is most bang for your buck. Ive read so many headaches about pc fails on here that it turned me off to doing that.
Plus you know youre getting the right proportions and ingredients with midwest. They give results (see ebay).
You get stressed out about getting the right type of coir, screwing up the recipe, bad water etc but mid west sells stuff premade and preselected to WORK. I just washed hands, open the bag and inoculate. They all did fine except the one i mistakingly shook.
So can you save 30$ over 5 years diy? Ya but folks like me just wanna get from point a to b asap and midwest seems to have everything to do so. No extra stuff to buy!

So here's a question....
What if instead of inoculating jars etc and wasting money on those (which break) I can just make a grow chamber that grows mycellium... THEN i can put it into a bulk, case it and cover it which I can then spread throughout other buckets? I think I'd only ever have to replace the substrate and case?
Edit: Can i use straight up compost from food if I PC the substrate? that would have A TOOOOON OF NUTRIENTS
