eating shrooms that came from a bacteria riddin substrate
    #21749149 - 06/01/15 03:45 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

I know this post might be a little out of place but I was wondering if anybody has ever eaten shrooms from a bacteria substrate . will it be ok ? because my buddy has a grow that is going pretty good but about 80% of the very top of the substrate is brownish yellowish mixed in the white mycelium . thank you for yalls time . also it looks like the shroom stems are a bit off white color. almost a brownish color ...idk

I wouldn't eat them. Mushrooms are like 90 percent water. If the bacteria is in the water  or the byproducts of the bacteria, the mushrooms could absorb it and make you sick. Im not an expert and someone else may disagree, but i wouldnt. Just like i wouldnt eat any bacteria riddled food.

If there is bacteria, it will probably smell sour. But, check in the contamination forum.

That looks ok if anything I'd say it is just dry and stressed. Post that pic in the contam forum to make sure.

Wouldn't making tea destroy the bacteria (since you apply heat) after they're dry

I see a couple of aborts at the base of the big one. OP mist that bitch a lot. Else you're gonna lose the grow. and post it in cultivation and ask what to do The TCs should be able to help you.

You cant just cook rotten food to make it better. The byproducts of  bacteria are poisons that wont dye even after  the bacteria die.

It can but IMHO that Substrate needs water there is no evidence I can see of bacteria. I repeat post in cultivation with more pics if possible someone there can advise you of the best course of action.

You have 1 fuckin post how many grows have you done? Those shrooms appear perfectly normal and healthy and as far as the sub it appears dry and if it were bacterial it would look all wet and mushy. OP take this to cultivation please. Don't waste a tub because someone who has grown once says they wouldn't trust them. You still very well lose the tub but it is worth a try. :thatsayes:
Cross posted but I'm anxious to se what comes of it.

Not likely.  In general it is recommended to boil something for 10 minutes to kill bacteria and other infectious organisms.

That is pretty brown, but sometimes I've seen cakes turn brown in spots like that if they take a really long time to colonize, or if the cakes are just left in there a long time.  It usually isn't that extended but that doesn't look like a cake, so maybe it is a similar thing.  It's like oxidized myc or something I think.

I don't understand though, the cakes were birthed at 80%?nvm I'm confusing myself

What is that substrate?

Did you dunk/roll or do a casing layer?  The stems look normal.  I would say that as long as it doesn't smell funny or is slimy or something like that it's most likely ok.
