Can I nuke a small contamination with bleach?
    #21748233 - 06/01/15 12:24 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

I've got a large block of Hericium americanum. It's about 2 weeks post inoculation and I've noticed a quarter sized bumpy green contamination - looks like some kind of mold. I don't want to open the whole thing up to cut the section out (I have no flow hood).

Can I spot inject a clorox solution to deal with it?

I've done it successfully before with an oyster cake by dipping an earbud into bleach and applying it carefully to the infection.

That cake fruited beautifully, and is still clean today. The mycelium that got touched by the bleach showed no negative effects at all!

I don't know if I would recommend it however, as I'm sure it would not be 100% effective all the time.

Well at this point I've got nothing to lose.
