"No one argues fanatically about the sun coming up tomorrow."

Kind of got me thinking. I think religious ferver is the projection of one's doubts and uncertainties about their own beliefs. Kind of reminds me of

"Those who know don't say"

If you know something to be true, you don't have to convince yourself by preaching to other people ad nauseum ad infinitum.

Words I guess are usually antagonized by doubt.

  this is a sweet post because of all of the implications.  especially dealing with these "words"

your post kinda reminds me of what my friend said to me while we were shroomin.  we both had no reason to talk, but I did anyway, and then he quickly said to me, "whatever has been said has already been said."

heh all I could do is smile.  I'm glad I have good teachers

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.---senior doobie

Could be fear that makes people fanatics about certain issues.

I don't discuss or debate in three areas, any more: religion, politics and abortion. Most people can't simply share their beliefs about things without trying to convince you that you're wrong.

I believe what I believe, and I am not in the mood any longer to argue my position. I'll share what I believe, and I'll listen to other's beliefs, but I won't argue about it.

The day will come when, after harnessing the ether, the winds, the tides, gravitation, we shall harness for God the energies of love. And, on that day, for the second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire.  -Teilard
