Colonized Monotub - mycelium input
    #21748076 - 06/01/15 11:42 AM (8 years, 7 months ago)

Hi all,

I've got a colonized tub (roughly half popcorn, half coco coir, pasteurized via Damion5050's bucket pasteurization) - the corners of the tub are beginning to show signs of color, and was wondering if any more experienced ppl could weigh in on whether it could be bruising, contam...  it was covered with a trash bag for 8 days before I had uncovered it about a day and a half ago.

the full surface

and the corners

Any other general advice is appreciated - not sure if the droplets are excessive comes to mind.  The tub I'm using does have 1/4" holes every 2" above the substrate level, including the lid.

Thanks!

P.S. This is my first monotub grow and am more than likely going to try properly pasteurizing next time, as it seems it's hit or miss.  I've only done one successful BRF cake grow (4 or 5 flushes for all 12 cakes in a SGFC, no contam, just some bruising)before this, but I still know fairly little. Besides from lurking on the site, this is my first post yay

It's either:

A - Bacteria: in which case it looks small so I wouldn't worry.

B - Stressed out sub from one or more conditions not being dialed in well.

C - Metabolites from the sub, but I'm going to guess it's one of the first two.

Sorry I can't be more specific, but it's probably one of those three things imo.

Jw, in your opinion, is bacteria really something I don't have to worry about, or should I maybe plan on dumping the tub?

I just didn't see bluing from bruising on BRF cakes until a few flushes in, when they were drying, so I'm worried

I didn't see any bruising on you bulk sub. Do you maybe have a closeup of that specifically?

If that is bacteria, it's small. Everything looks like it's getting ready to fruit. You'll have mushies

Post pics with the pins when they show, we all love us some pin-porn lol

just startin to show a little color is all

and I figured I got a little bit of a feel for mist/fanning from using a SGFC and cakes? but I'll keep in the extra misting in mind, thanks

no point in fanning, especially not with your SGFC style mono.
but you need to mist often since there is no perlite as in the SGFC.

only mist when the sub surface looks dry/not glistening with moisture.

All good dude, that will not affect your yield in any significant way. Happy Growing

Oh, okay.  Cool to know, since I was planning otherwise.  By the way, are the amount of droplets reasonable or should I let it always be drier?

it looks good to me. just dont mist again until its really needed, AKA its no longer glistening.
