Luciduim grows in NY but its more of a rare find, whereas the tsugae is very common. Especially right now. Plus, that looks like hemlock bark. Tsuga means hemlock I think

Many Thanks!! I am looking forward to harvesting some of this in (hopefully) a few weeks. It looks like the slugs have already found it them though, so it depends on how much damage they do ...

Make sure you get it properly id'd...Chaga doesn't grow on dead wood....needs to have a living birch tree as a host.:sunny::peace:
