Reishi?

This is growing in my woods, on blow overs and dead trees ALL OVER the place. It looks like Reishi, but I'm super nervous about ingesting some sort of dangerous mushroom. Can someone give me a positive ID? Is there anything dangerous that looks like Reishi?

I believe it's reishi as well, but I am new to the game. Is it on a hemlock?

It's still plenty early from what I've read online, prolly won't be ready until July(ish)? This will be my first year to harvest any wild mushrooms other than Chanterelles. I'm excited about it.

If you want to get the most of them, try forresters tek for making a double extract...I've been making both reishi and chaga for the last year or so and take both daily.

Just out of curiosity, what makes this G. tsugae and not one of the many other species? Ganoderma gives me a headache.

Yep. What other species would you consider? I don't think it looks like G. curtisii or G. sessile.

Without knowing the habitat, the micro features and having access to all those keys the Ganoderma enthusiasts on MO constantly reference and then disagree with each other upon for entirely unstated reasons I wouldn't have a clue!

Which study shows that all the Ganoderma in NY are G. tsugae? I'm not asking because I think that is wrong, just because I don't know.

My understanding was not necessarily that region was a factor ....more of what type of wood it favored....I have only found tsugae on conifers...primarily hemlock. While lucidem fruits primarily on hardwoods. At least, that's what I've been told.

Ah, I keep hearing conflicting information, I should really track down the literature, but then polypores aren't really my thing. There are some that insist on measuring the size of the pores and even microfeatures like the spores of thickness of the hyphae while others insist upon the type of wood only.

Yeah....I think MrCloudy would be able to shed more light on the microscopy end of things....I tend to defer to him with anything ganoderma...lol
