What is the purpose of colonizing a casing layer?

Hey all, I had just a rather newbish question about casings. But what is the point of letting them colonize before introducing into fruiting conditions?
I ask this because I have 2 tubs, a 66qt and a 31qt mini.
This is the 66qt tub after being cased, right before being patched. This is a tub of PE and I have seen ridiculously fast colonization from this from start till now.
This tub has been in fruiting since Thursday
our mini mono however, which is cambodian, was doing great as well. BOTH TUBS WERE CASED ON THE SAME DAY. The larger tub of PE however got to 30% wicked fast, and I patched and fruited. our mini mono however is taking its sweet old time colonizing the casing layer...I believe I made it a little thicker than that of the PE tub. The sub has been fully colonized in the mini for a while, but this is what it looks like after exactly 1 week.

From all the different teks ive read, I really have no idea what to do. I fruited the PE tub at 30% which some recommend, but I see some people fruiting right after applying a casing, or even letting that casing colonize 100% before fruiting.
Thanks yall!

100% is just making a thicker substrate, so why case in the first place? 30% is for thicker casings. Directly to fruiting is for late casings or thin casings. On a thin casing it still colonizes 30% in fruiting before pinning generally. Late casings are the only time I've seen mushrooms come through an uncolonized casing.

I wouldnt let a casing layer colonize to 100%.
When i spawn tubs that Im not going to case I usually use a top layer these days, a thin layer of sub on top of my mixed up grains/sub. This I let colonize to 100% and fruit. But this isnt a true/proper casing.
A casing can be pretty benificial especially on PE tubs. But yea sometimes they can taje quite a while to colonize.
You should wait that tub out. At least wait till you see *some* myc before you fruit

I don't wait for a casing to colonize. I case it and throw it directly in fruiting. If I see myc I patch it.

Especially if you are casing with coir then you are not really casing, you are just making more substrate.
When I do case I put the 100% tub into fruiting for a few days and then thinly case. All this does is help the microclimate and retain moisture which isn't really needed in a mono anyways

Hmm then maybe you could help me with this question while were on it (Sry OP). I had a few tubs I spawned on the 7th, they colonized in a couple days, I cased with some coir since I didnt throw a top layer on like I have been lately.
Anywho One tub I put into fruiting the other day finally and its pinning, one went green, and the last tub still hasnt put any myc up through the coir except a litgle bit of real fluffy myc just along the edge. Casing is starting to dry up a bit on the very top.
Guess I laid the "casing" a little too thick.. half inch maybe a lil thicker hard to tell. Guess I should just toss it into fruiting see what happens?
