Bacteria or just sweating?
    #21744946 - 05/31/15 02:15 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

The wall that my shelf in my grow room that I colonize jars on is cool to the touch, actually all the walls are because it's in a cool basement. If I don't keep my jars as far foward on the shelves as I can the back sides of the jars sweat. Today I noticed a jar of ksss was pushed back against the wall and I'm not sure if it's just wet or it has developed some bacteria. I know you can spawn bacterial jars but with as many jars as I have going all the time there is no need to. Take a look and see what ya think. I'm leaning 50/50 toward one or the other

Damn it, kinda figured. I really need to insulate that wall. There's about a 15° difference from inside the grow room to the basement temp.

I've always attributed bacteria to either bad inoculant/inoculation procedure or not enough time in the pc (if there's a filter, what else could it be?) I upped my pc times to 2 hours and I still see the occasional bacterial grain on birdseed, but the mycelium usually takes it over by the time it's shown itself. I know it's clean inoculant cause I always do agar to grain. I've noticed it's also more predominant in starchy grains. Switched to oats and I've had no bacterial oats in 100+ jars

If you see bacteria and have done everything else right, you have to pc longer. At least that's been my experience

The master jar was just as old as my b+ jar except the only filter this particular master jar had was micropore tape, it was what I used before buying a couple hundred sfds so chances are the filter was the issue. This is really the 1st jar that has went south on me in about 8 months or so, ever since I switched to sfds the jars have been flawless.
Been wanting to give a mini greenhouse a shot, maybe I'll spawn it into a tray

Ah yeah probably the filter/master. I'd say go for the tray when it colonizes it. It wouldn't hurt.
