From Failure to Fruit, almost. Pictures.

My first few attempts (see old posts) failed using PF Tek. It turned out I made a bad liquid culture. Turning back to basics, I stripped back to the simplest teks, stayed clean (though no SABs, masks or gloves) and tried PK Tek again.
This time I used a spore syringe. Getting beat by a mushroom is not cool, and I'm glad to say that this time round, I'm close to answering the shroom's challenge.
Failure had made me more determined. Without yet even growing a shroom, the process has fascinated me. Things took a while to happen, but the deep feeling of success is something that has enriched me.
I wanted to post these pics because there are not many of the very first beginnings of a pin on a PF Tek cake. I'll post more as things develop.
Thank you Shroomery for your words of wisdom.

If you're not using a SAB, masks or gloves then you aren't really being very clean. Check this out, might change your procedure a little bit.

I suspect that you are right, but I have quite particular circumstances.
I don't want to go "lab" mode. A SAB and mask feels like overkill to me. I said I don't use gloves, but actually I do at the most important times. I flame my needles and I use alcohol wipes.
For now I feel like I'm being clean enough, even though I fall short of your admirable cleanliness. I keep a clean, vegetarian, smoke free home. If it's good enough for me and my kids, I feel that my shrooms will feel well enough looked after
Now of course I'll change my mind if I face contams down the line, but for now I am happier to grow under my normal homely conditions. Sounds funny I know, but I believe it will grow nice happy shrooms if I treat them as "indifferently" as possible.

A sab is not overkill. Flame sterilization should be the last step of cleaning your needle. Contams are in your home no matter the lifestyle. A sab makes a still air space to work in. Much different than just having a clean home but a clean house is nice

I just use a tiny half bathroom ie a toilet a sink and a counter with clean clothes and a hankerchief over my nose and mouth that i keep real clean i rub the needletip with lysol disinfectant wipes i rub the top of my jar with a wipe then i flame my needle and inoculate my jar i start over with the lysol and flame sterilization for every jar making sure to get each jar nocced as quickly as possible each time and i havnt had a contam yet

you can use your SAB as a container to keep jars or equipment. Just re-seal the arm holes. I have several jars in my SAB now.
I had many contaminated jars my first go-round years ago, not using any kind of box but still trying to clean the area and spray lysol and oust etc.
This time around, using a still air box, 0 contaminants.
That said, congrats on the successful run. I wish you the very best.

You haven't noticed any contams doesnt mean they aren't there. U can have contams and still produce clean looking spawn just fruiting is not up to par to what it could be if you cleaned up on agar. Multispore is great an very forgiving but can drag if conditions aren't clean enough.

I'm not sure it's necessary to wipe the needle before using a flame. But it sounds like you're getting results with your current setup so congrats!
And I agree those are very nice hi-res pictures you're putting up

Thanks for your likes on the pictures. I enjoy taking them (the pics that is ). Here they are today. Now I must be honest and say there was some trich today. I've chopped it off and will keep an eye on it.
I've moved the whole chamber out in to my garden, and growth of the fruit seems to have increased.
Will keep this thread updated.

Thanks Luther. I did a silly thing though. I just posted to the contam forum, and one experienced user suggests it wasn't trich after all. Wish I'd asked BEFORE I cut off half the cake in sheer panic oh well... I guess shrooms were sent to teach us things. Today's lesson : Patience and Calmness.

Rule number one in this hobby lol. Plus, it's always good to err on the side of safety.
