Should I do DMT?

Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask. I have the opportunity to try DMT, I'm very interested because I'm running out of hope in life. After a very bad relationship, I stumbled into a dark 3 year long intense depression, I've always been a depressed person but looking back on the past 3 years of my life, it is certainly grim. Before I was a social person, at the time it didn't seem like it but compared to now I really was social. I didn't take life too seriously (in a good way). During those 3 years, I got too attached to smoking weed. It seems to have impeded alot on my social skills and general motivation, I have no aspiration to do what I want to do in life. The one thing that is really getting me down now is not being able to express myself creatively, I really like music, always have and always figured it would be my niche. Before weed I had the motivation to do it, same with any sort of creative output but just didn't have the tools/education to follow it. Now I have everything I could possibly want yet I just can't. I've come to the conclusion that it really is my perception and mentality that is stopping me from either being social, happy or following what I want to do. I can't seem to break this mental barrier I have created over the past 3 years, I used to go to a shrink and at the time she suggested CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy).. I didn't take it serious but recently I started a self help guide and for some problems I face on a daily basis, it helped. But for doing what I want to do be it reading, music, painting, it hasn't helped. Maybe I haven't put enough time into it, anyway I'm ranting. My questions are If I were to do DMT, what dose should I do? Will it be a lasting change? Or will I eventually relapse into this dark mindset. Should I just go back to a shrink?
Also, I am not on any medication anymore, it has been a long while since I've been on SSRI/SNRI's.
Thanks in advance

No dosage recommedations are allowed.(sorry) Welcome to the Shroomery,
Having had many years of Depression issues in my life I feel your pain.
Cognative reasoning or any other therapy,councillors or classes will only help you if you apply yourself.
Me personally I found that if I get out of myself and try to do something good for others it helps me realize how fortunate I really am.
Occasionally I have to revert to medication if I get too down, I try to live life on lifes terms. Meaning I prefer to get through my day without antidepressants or antianxiety meds.
Set up a routine,execise and find someone you can talk to that gives you another viewpoint...
Wish you the Best.
If you ever need to talk PM me and I will gladly visit with you.

This isn't what you asked but my advice is not to do drugs to "escape". Drugs are fun but they won't fix your life man. Just the opposite in fact.

Oh, whoops! Sorry. I probably will go back to a shrink, just at this time it's too costly. I don't really have the opportunity to help others apart from my family which I try to do daily, I'll try be more committed to helping around the house. I've tried set a routine numerous occasions but they always fail, I go to the gym 4 times a week and I do have an abundance of people I can get great advice off of, only problem is I feel like I know all of the things they are saying to me, I just can't feel them. I know what my problems are in life and what would make me happy, just doing them and feeling them seems impossible. Thanks for the response by the way!

It's not to escape, I don't actually do drugs anymore. just on rare occasions, maybe a joint if I'm drunk. Usually weed makes me feel horrible nowadays, too much critical thought. I was just interested in DMT because of all the stories I've been reading about a change perception which will obviously demolish any mental barriers you previously had.. that idea alone made me feel excited

You are very welcome...
I have several people I talk to to help keep me grounded.
Find someone and talk and then listen to their responses...

hey brother, welcome to the site.
drinking plenty of water is important;
spending a while without any alcohol, only drinking tea or coffee, can be very unveiling and uplifting;
spending time in nature is one of the best,
and going for long walks or hikes; a few miles a day if you can manage, can totally help transform energy and improve flow.
also getting enough sunshine; has a very positive impact (of course, don't spend all day!) but 5-10 minutes 4-5 times throughout the day is very nice.
what we feel and think affects us immediately, chemically; one of the keys is to accept and love exactly who we are in the present moment. .
love and accept yourself exactly as you are, you are a whole and beautiful human being; and indeed, loving and accepting is maybe half of the way there.
everything will happen naturally, all will flow naturally,
self-trust is like the main thing; love and acceptance are significant stepping-stones on the way there. . .
smile and love who you are because you are beautiful, is a good way.
knowing you create your life also tends to remove a lot of burden, at least i have found.
all the best and peace and love to you brother.
good luck on your journey.
as for DMT, sure why not? yet it's best to spend a couple months this kind of thing i would generally say -
1 thing is when we sleep, it cleanses the brain of toxins, that's why we feel so refreshed when we wake up; why we perform so well right after waking up.
one thing i have noticed is, simply to spend one's day without accumulating any of those toxins is a beautiful key to it all;
so then at each point, maybe, breathe, and say, 'I am home,'
or something like this
1 other thing - last thing - is, almost all self-help books; if you go to their source, you'll find a slightly more potent form of the same thing.
peace and happiness to you my friend.

As others have pointed out, DMT isn't therapy and it won't fix your problems. But it can give you perspective sometimes. Massive perspective, sometimes almost too much to bear. I would not recommend against it if you have a general idea of what the drug does and you are drawn to it.

hey man.
I once looked to psychedelics as a "cure" to my depression. I think if u go into the situation with ANY expectations, you will be sorely disappointed. I don't think there are any "lasting" changes when taking psychedelic drugs. there is an insight gained during the experience, that if applied to "real life", can help you lead a happier, more productive life. but if youre looking to ingest something, that is just going to magically make you feel different, you are going to be let down, majorly.
I have tried many, many, many things for my depression. the only thing I can tell you is your mind is like a bad neighborhood, you should never be in it alone.
keep good people close to you, and invest and stay connected to a strong support network. invest in a hobby that youre passionate about. take up something like boxing, or mma, something that will help train your mind and body simultaneously. the more you are out of your head, the better off you will be.
I have been suffering for over 10 years now, and this is something you have to work at everyday. we're here if u need to talk.
much love brother
