Lighting for an oyster grow room
    #21743351 - 05/31/15 12:26 AM (8 years, 7 months ago)

I'm constructing my grow room today and am wondering if I purchased the right type of fixtures. I was a little anxious to get started the other day and I ran out of home depot with two four-bulb T8 fixtures. Each bulb is 4' long and 32W. The fixtures have prismatic housing because I was worried about condensation.

I'm doing 6' straw columns pretty densely packed in a 10x12 room. Is this too much light? Not enough? Is it even the right kind of light? There were comparable LED fixtures for significantly more money. I'm now wondering if I should have opted for those because the bulbs almost never burn out, whereas a 10 pack of T8s costs 30 dollars. I've read that fluorescent bulbs are better for horticulture though, so I'm not quite sure. Thanks guys

I'd say you have plenty of lighting. I have about half of that with a slightly smaller room and don't have any issues.

I'm sure someone else will chime in

This guy 'splains it well.. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/7751446#7751446

2000 lux, 6500 Kelvin will be good for Oysters. Buy 6500 Kelvin Bulbs, your light meter held to the place where you want fruiting to happen will show how many lux you are getting at that place from your bulbs.

The further from your light source, the more your lux will decrease.

If you dont get 2000 lux, re-position or buy more bulbs.

sorry, 2000Lux for primordia formation, probably closer to 5000Lux for fruiting. 65ooKelvin throughout.
