Are you a butt pirate?

What I meant to say is, do you download torrents? Of music? Movies? Games? Computer programs? Do you think it's wrong? Are there some things that you are ok with pirating, and others that you would feel guilty about? Have you ever been caught? Discuss.

I don't bother with movies or music anymore. The government will outlaw torrents as soon as they possibly can. I'm grabbing books and info. Torrents are a college students greatest gift. I'm not going to school, but I love to learn things I'm interested in. There's college courses being shared by students and teachers who have compiled all sorts of material. Grab it while you can.

I torrent everything and I don't see anything wrong with it. Its the future. I torrent music and instead of using the money for a CD that might not even be good, I buy a concert ticket, shirt, or a poster. I torrent movies, but I still pay for netflix. And I still go to the movie theaters. I just finished watching San Andreas at the theater. It was pretty good except the guy next to me smooching his girl even minitue.

I don't torrent a lot these days, would have to buy more storage for it to really be worthwhile. I have 7 TB of hard drives in my main desktop computer between 3 drives, and not a lot of free space. Mostly tv series and some movies, every Star Trek series in the best quality available, etc.
If internet piracy was somehow shut down for good there's always local trading with friends, maybe set up a portable rig with a few high capacity 2.5" drives (ideally SSD, eventually they will overtake HDDs in GB/$), gigabit ethernet and whatever is the fastest wifi.
I rarely torrent software, I'd rather use open source stuff than have to worry about malware-ridden warez.

A VPN is a must at least for me when it comes to music and movies. Comcast hires some company to track all the torrents for copyright infringement and Comcast just forwards their report. I didn't think I would need one if I wasn't getting movie or music, but I got a shit ton of notices for downloading some of "The Great Courses" put out by The Teaching Company. They have whatever you may have an interest in. http://www.thegreatcourses.com/ I'm totally hooked on all the Lectures from University professors they have. They have entire courses consisting solely of lectures. I'm sure these are boring as hell for some college students who are required to listen to them, but when you have an interest in something you just can't get enough.

I only stream, don't want to get caught torrenting. I think it is stealing, but it is akin to stealing a jelly bean
As a content producer, people have pirated and profited off of my work such as my bowl packer video. which was edited and uploaded to Ebaumsworld. I ain't even mad Piracy doesn't bother me and the old ways to sell media are clearly becoming outdated. Piracy in my opinion is also the result of large companies unwilling to update mdoels.
piracy doesn't bother me, and it is usually a no name gets "pirated" and passed around and gets way more popular thus making actual sales revenue easier
OR
A company probably too big and too rich to go under (like Disney/Marvel) gets pirated and it really doesn't affect anything

My university used to broadcast classes on channel 10, maybe the still do, people who weren't in school would watch it, like profs would say they got emails from people watching in the community. Free education man. You can read the books and listen to the lectures and all the people who took the class will have that you dont is piece of paper. You would know everything they do and they paid a lot to learn it. You don't pay shit learning for fun. I like self learning, my degree never got me a job so I will never step foot in lecture hall again. But wouldn't mind studying some art history or criminology or abnormal psych, i actually find that kind of stuff fun. Not pay 6 thousand a year fun though.

I've gotten multiple cease and desist letters.

I've pirated tens of thousands of dollars worth of music; all I care about is discovering and listening to new music. Piracy saved my life

I started using live archive a lot more. But no, I don't see anything wrong with copying something that is out there. Saying torrenting is stealing is like saying people who use GMO seeds are stealing intellectual property.
