When people come to the ocean for the first time(or long time)
    #21741849 - 05/30/15 05:13 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

as someone who lives near the seas its always hilarious to watch people come from the country and go "OMG ITS THE SEA WOW LOOK IT AT, ITS SO AMAZING." and the locals are just like ok... calm down son just the ocean.

Anyone else experienced this

I've met multiple people in Florida who've never seen snow. I'd love to see their reactions to it.

The first time I saw the ocean I had already seen lake superior so it wasn't that impressive really.

I was just like "Meh, big salty lake whatever"

The ocean is pretty amazing. I think it's pretty hilarious that you can look at one of the most important aspects of life on this planet and not be amazed. I go down to the water all the time, and just stare. :sunny:

I've met lots of people who never seen snow before stand in awe when the first snow fall of the season happens. They seem to think its the gates to heaven or something.

It's so hard for me as a Minnesotan to imagine that there's places on earth where people have NEVER seen snow.

When snow falls I see the gates of hell.  Yeah, touristy bitch from Guatemala, here's a fucking shovel and two feet of snow.  Tell me how cool it is when you're done.  Snow is Satan's cum

OP my buddy lives in upstate NY and when he came to see the ocean he was like holy fuck waves and shit and was loving it.

Psycho about a year and a half back I was at an Umphreys show and dosed one of my friends friend for his first trip ever.  He was from Ecuador and after the show on our way back it started snowing and it was his first time seeing snow.  The look on his face when he saw snow was like someone seeing their newborn baby for the first time hahaha it was magical.

I have never seen an ocean to this day, nor any VAST amounts of water. I have always wanted to though. I soon plan on moving from Colorado to somewhere in northern california.

I met a kid from Columbus and he was up my way for school and we went to my smoke spot which is in the woods and he was in total awe of smoking weed in the woods.  I never thought about it but he was from the inner city I guess and just smoked in cars and houses I guess and after doing that your whole life I suppose it would be pretty neat to smoke out in the forest.

Then I beat the shit out of him.

my whole life i've lived within 60min of the beach.  now i live here and it's forever away.  i miss the waves; the incessant crashing.  spreading my fingers out in the hot sand.  i miss pissing in the water.  i miss passing out in the sun.  i miss the exhausted, glowing, windows-down tune-filled drive home.

ahhhh 83rd st. vb.

Hahaha I didn't really.  He woulda knocked the shit outta me. He was about 6'4" and was a stalky 350 pounds.  Held some record in dead lifting or something like that I can't remember.  He was a nice guy though and it was pretty cool seeing him that interested about being in the woods.

Much unlike those ocean pepole who think it's cool to make fun of people who have never seen the ocean before. I'd like to see those ocean people head up this way and have a showdown with us woods people.  We'd probably win because we chop fire wood all day and all they do is catch tasty waves on their gnarly long boards.

I've lived through a Tornado and I can tell you without a doubt I would gladly trade that experience to you.

Fuck, I'll trade living through a tornado with the experience of stubbing a toe.

What part of your house being destroyed, people dying, and destruction do you want to see so bad?

I love the ocean. I don't blame people for being excited to see it, especially if they've spent their entire lives landlocked. I'm fortunate to have grown up in a beach community and I now have an apartment that's literally across the street from the beach. I can hear the waves crashing as I type this.

What really will blow your mind is to see the ocean in a tropical environment. To swim in it, when it's 75 degrees and crystal clear... It's really special. (No, I don't live here, the ocean is rather cold and grey where I live, compared to this, but I have swam at this beach and it was awesome)

I love the way the salt water makes my skin and hair feel. I get a rush similar to a runner's high after getting out of the ocean. It feels cleansing.

Tornadoes are dope under certain conditions, as is a volcano :awesome:

Sucks if houses are in the way ofc.

I was on a lake when a tornado/waterspout touched down on the other side, it was scary as shit :lol:waves got hella choppy fast.

I'm one of those people. I live close to 1k miles from the ocean but have been to it and in it throughout my life.  I still am mesmerized by it though. Would love to live by it one day

The wave pool at Knight's Action Park gets you way higher....... It is like meth compared to coca leaves....

Too much ecstasy becomes normalcy. The ocean is something truly magnificent. If you touch the water you are touching the fluid body spanning the Earth that spawned all life on earth.

But yeah you get used to it.

Maybe their fascination with having seen the ocean for the first time should be more of a reminder that sometimes we take the things around us for granted.

We do!  Some time ago I was high on MXE. The sun was shining and I went to sit outside, shirtless. I felt this unbelievably vast thermonuclear explosion that roars on for four and a half billion years lash its radiation into my flesh, four billion miles away and still so warm! I opened my eyes and saw the most beautiful clouds swirl and undulate, when do you ever watch the clouds, a constantly evolving masterpiece of creation on the sky blue canvas. I was just overwhelmed with the beauty of it, I could clearly see why the sun was revered as God in ancient times :god: it brings us life, light, warmth and we consist of stellar ashes, animated.

Thats me popping in the sun for half an hour in my backyard.

We totally take things for granted. Life is absolutely magnificent, everywhere in nature you look, if you involve your mind its just !!  :mindblown:

I live like a mile from the sea. When I lived more inland for an internship I felt suffocated by the stagnant air and the lack of a huge open space nearby. I need my open spaces.

Bring me that fishy ocean freshness

I'll never forget my mother's embarrassment the 1st time i went to the beach and complained  quite loudly about the water being too salty.

Those places up North where forests run all the way to the ocean must smell so good. Apart from all the bear shit

My first recollection of the ocean was when I went for a field trip in like first grade I think. It was sofa-king awesome. We got there very early and there was fog everywhere u couldn't even see the ocean. But it was cool cuz there were still lots of people there as if it were a hot day. Everyone was running around and having fun and I seriously felt like I was in a very cozy dream specially cuz of all the fog and considering It was like my first memory of the beach.

I see the ocean maybe like once a year and it never gets old. I can stare at it all day in awe.

The ocean smells like salty fish pussy.

Why would anyone enjoy that?
