Definitely do a grow log this fall, I wanna watch these babies from start to finish in the hands of an experienced grower
Well, they have to stay really moist during germination, and I checked the local weather report to make sure we were having a few days of straight rain before I planted.
Sow some out this fall, and make sure they stay moist until they germinate.
I will definitely post a log this fall for sure buddy
I have a bunch of non active poppies too, that I'm going to mix in and just grow them at home instead of the wild

What do you do, KBG? Any sort of soil prep for a bed of em? Or is it REALLY just throw em on some bare dirt and wait?
At what zone do you think they will overwinter alright without dying from the cold?
I did no prep work whatsoever, and I just scattered the seeds in open soil.
That being said,if you do some prepping, and use a good soil mix, thin your plants, and space them right, you will get the maximum potential from these plants.
I also never fertilized them either.
They will over winter fine in areas that don't receive significant snowfall.
I would say zones 7 and higher, but they may even overwinter in the colder zones as well.
I've never lived anywhere colder that zone 7b.
I can't wait to start up this mix of seeds spacey sent me,this fall in Florida!
I'm going to actually do these right, and post a grow log,so you all can see just how easy they are to grow
Those red tazzies I sent you are good plants but they grow very weekly so you'll probably need to keep an eye on them and keep their bed cleaned. Although I bet their Stout when they flower;)
Cool,red tazzies sound fantastic!
Thanks for the heads up

That's gotta be where I went wrong. I probably let them dry a little too much. I tried to stay on top of em and keep em wet, but I guess I probably didn't.

So what if my lone little pod, which I squeezed and maybe 20 seeds tops fell out and stay there for the summer and falll, ypu think they'll sprout in the fall.

They should if the seed's viable. I dump poppy seeds into my cactus pots and they come up on their own each year. Been doing this for about 4 years now.

Do you let the grow out to full size in the same pots as your cacti, karode?

Yeah, I sure do. Some grow into great plants but most turn out average. It's just a lazy way to grow. I bought a bunch of Trichocereus from someone years ago and they grew poppies in their pots.

I threw some seeds in some empty pots from some plants that perished, and they are starting to bloom.
They are tiny, and look like shit though.
I even dropped some seeds on my wood deck, and a few weeks later there were tons of sprouts growing out of the cracks in the wood!
These plants really do just grow like weeds!
I'll try and get a pic of the smallest flowering poppy I've ever grown tomorrow.
That little thing is barely over two inches tall, and is in that pot I dumped the seeds in

I think so. The second one? I never saw the third one, so I think it's the second one
