Here is what happens...

When you just toss a bunch of poppy seeds out,too late in the season, and forget about them
They grow stunted, with tiny flowers and pods.
These pics were taken about five days ago,so I'll have to go back and check the color of the flowers, just for shits and giggles
I also have some I threw in a pot,and one is flowering at two or three inches tall
It could be the smallest flowering poppy ever! I'll eventually post a pic.

I don't even think thinning would have produced bigger plants

Thanks man,but if you see what I used to grow, you wouldn't think this way
I'm used to four foot tall plants with multiple pods per plant, but that was years ago, when I actually did indulge in the poppy
I just grew these for novelty, and too see what type of flowers I could get

Dude, all I did was scatter these all over the areas where I hunt mushrooms and fish, and then I came back a week later and had millions of sprouts!
The weeds overtook nearly everything else though, but these small patches overcame them.

I wonder why we've had alot of failures here. I couldn't get anything going this year. Wasted all my poppy seeds. Lost all my Astrophytum caput-medusae seeds. It's been a tough year buddy.

Well,I've never had a problem with poppies, but I consider this a problem considering my past experience with the plant.
I'm going to start up a bunch more this fall,in Florida, and then you'll see why this is a failure in my book
I feel for ya though man,but we all get to be stronger growers through trial and error.
Get some more seeds, and try again this fall, don't give up!
I can even give some tips for a successful grow if you want buddy

Ask me anything you like,I'm telling you, there is nothing to it!
I will give you guys a little tip though, planting poppies in the fall, and letting them overwinter produces larger, more robust multi podded plants.
and they bloom much earlier too

Yeah,my fall grows in Florida were always started in October,or November, when the temps are finally spring like.

I got nothing myself either....
What do you do, KBG? Any sort of soil prep for a bed of em? Or is it REALLY just throw em on some bare dirt and wait?
At what zone do you think they will overwinter alright without dying from the cold?
-------------------- One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree. 'Which road do I take?' she asked. 'Where do you want to go?' was his response. 'I don't know', Alice answered. 'Then', said the cat, 'it doesn't matter.'

I did no prep work whatsoever, and I just scattered the seeds in open soil.
That being said,if you do some prepping, and use a good soil mix, thin your plants, and space them right, you will get the maximum potential from these plants.
I also never fertilized them either.
They will over winter fine in areas that don't receive significant snowfall.
I would say zones 7 and higher, but they may even overwinter in the colder zones as well.
I've never lived anywhere colder that zone 7b.
I can't wait to start up this mix of seeds spacey sent me,this fall in Florida!
I'm going to actually do these right, and post a grow log,so you all can see just how easy they are to grow

I wonder why mine didn't sprout at all then... It was my first try though, so it was a learning experience... Glad to hear I didn't completely waste a year then, I can plant em out in the fall and overwinter. Maybe I'll have luck then.
Definitely do a grow log this fall, I wanna watch these babies from start to finish in the hands of an experienced grower

Those red tazzies I sent you are good plants but they grow very weekly so you'll probably need to keep an eye on them and keep their bed cleaned. Although I bet their Stout when they flower
