I've used 30 liter tubs with no problems. All that really matters sizewise is that you have enough free space above the sub for the mushrooms to grow.

They can still grow with fuck all room, they just bend over, I even had them pop the lids off my containers

I see no holes but one on the lid and coverd by tyvek. if i buy the 45litre tote...there would be no 2 holes per side only one above the sub spawn mix which is in the middle of the tote...would that be efficient? One hole on four sides covered with poly

I find your photos of bent mushrooms offensive sir. Ones growth should be freestanding and upright! ;-)

This really helped me get my tubs performing beautifully, hope it does the same for you

A little bit scientific but thanks cool stuff And what i understand that rectangular shapes can perform better than circular and you should only mist the sub...but how can i apply this to 45litre tub That the sub/spawn mix will fill nearly half of it.

Bottom holes should be at the top of the substrate level, with at least one hole in each side (imo) given the size of your container. Then, I would put one or two holes in the lid (symmetrical). This should give you plenty of FAE, make sure to plug the holes with polyfil though, or some equivalent filter. Holes don't have to be too big either, I usually make them big enough to get my pinky finger through to the first knuckle, but I have skinny fingers, so use your own discretion on hole size.
Also, this site is loaded with pics of sgfc's and mono-tubs. Dig around, get inspired

You should just split it between 2 tubs? RR always says if you have enough for 4 inches, make 2 tubs at 2 inches.

sorry for popping this up again but i dont think it would be a good idea to create a new thread.
so i have created the 47qt monotub. 2 holes in the long side at the 4" mark the holes are 1.5" and 2 holes at short side close to the top 1.5" too. gonna use 1spawn/2sub maybe a little bit more with the sub. what you guys think?
ill buy another 47qt tub soon and iam really considering the rectangular shape holes at the bottom
