Very nice, MH. By coincidence, one of my own plants opened its lonely bud today.

Woo-hoo, an Opunita thread! I'm a huge lover of cacti and the tuna fruit and am trying to get started growing. I had a purple prickly pear, but the fruits were not sweet and much smaller than the kind I loved from the grocery store. Waiting on my purple prickly pear seeds to germinate.

I don't know why I never posted in this thread. I'll see if I can get some pics of my different types of Opuntias sometime soon and get them uploaded within the 6 DAMN hours I'd imagine it would take to load them to the forum

I hate living sooo far out in the damn country. The land is great and it great not to have close neighbors and acres of land to grow on but the internet and phone services absolutely blow out here.

BTW lillfish check your PMs I sent ya something interesting :super:

I just moved in a new neighborhood and a neighbor has a neglected patch that I want paddles from.

It's about to bloom so is it able to root right now still?

I need to post some Opuntia pictures from my Big Bend adventures in this thread. Can't wait to go back out there. The unmaintained 4x4 roads are awesome if you don't care about the paint job on your truck..I see the pinstripes as a good thing that means you've been way out yonder where few travel and the cacti are thick

Anyone know the name of this infestation (fungus?) that only seems interested in attaching my prickle pear?

I did some more searching and found what they are... Cochineal

I suppose I don't need to worry anymore about if they'll make me sick if I eat the tuna, since the bug juice is used for food dye. :crazy2:

I've got a couple in my small collection. They are native to my area. Is there any trick to get them to pup like yours? They have only been potted for 2 months max. So I'm guessing they just need more time to develop a root system.

I got mine in a trade.
It's the only one in my collection.

I started rooting it in February.
Think it took like two months.

Repotted it in a 10".

I water once sometimes twice a week and it gets sun from 11àm till 7pm.
Unless it's suppose to rain then it get about four hours of direct sunlight.

Other than that.
I tell it that it's beautiful.
And run out in the rain to save it.

I'd like to get some started in the ground.

Nice looking cacti!!!
I can't wait to have a pad like that!

Got about 4L of juice from the fruits in the first two pics. Still have another bag full to process.

I'm going to try and make wine and/or jam.

Some of the best fruits there are, I fucking love prickly pears.
It's the season right now too, lots of them at the grocery market here.
