Yellow flowers are ok. Not the prettiest color in my book.

I honestly took them just for the red yummy healthy fruits
The ones that have purple flowers have edible fruits also?

I think its opuntia robusta which has the tuna fruits. I could be wrong but they all produce fruits. Not all edible though.

Some O. fragilis "v. denudata" that I ordered recently:

Both of those species are apparently cold hardy in my area of Canada but I've kept the O. humifusa inside under the lights over the winter so far. I'm hoping to use the O.fragilis as a graft stock.
I kept these outside over the winter this year, and the fragilis looks like it's on the verge of death now. They're supposed to be fine in cold temps but I guess it got too wet. The humifusa was planted in the same spot and looks pretty perky though.

I am back in sicily and i still love cutting and engraving cheap designs on my opuntias this one almost looks like opuntia cobra
and here's a stilized version of La Gioconda
but i guess that this relly simple bottle of XXX looks nicer

the Peyote in the Hand. a nice logo that i would like to trademark is looking good

If you remember my Opuntia Galapageia , it got a lot spinier, but it's not prickly, more like soft wholly thing with no glochids. it has grown 2 nice pads in no time.

And those 3 are some Opuntia Sulphurea new pads

There's a lot to be said about Opuntia. If you have the space and the disposition for the nasty pricks you will inevitably get from time to time, they make very interestig display subjects with quite a nice variety. I prefer the smaller subjects, but the large ones are spectacular. It's not unusual to find O. robusta plants growing in gardens (and even wild!) here in Portugal, and a large plant with 40cm round blue pads is breathtaking!

Definitely intrested in collecting more Opuntia strains. I already have O. Robusta in plain soil in the countriside. I recently acquired an opuntia Decumbens pad, wich is nasty cause of the glochid abundance , but sports a nice brown dots texture, if put in the right sun conditions. Next things on the list is Opuntia Qumillo

Yeah opuntia has earned my respect in the last year or so. They truly do transform into a breath taking stature when they get moving. And shit when they get moving, they blow the fuck up in what seems like no time. I have a few small ones but I'm itching hard for the day I can harvest pears! I wanna make some jelly. Had some once and it was pretty bomb shit. Even was given soap made from the fruits and it also was a delicious treat (well... Nose delicious anyway )

Really sad to be far far away from my beloved sicily. This is the time i usually eat a motherload of ficudinnias. Here in northen italy, all that i find is some shitty tasteless tunas that nearly remind the real taste.

Whilst I bought a Opuntia subulata in 1960, and loved its temporary leaves, all Opuntiae are now totally banned from my collection. The glochids irritate my ageing skin more than they used to, LOL.

I have 9 opuntia stricta seedlings sourced from Big Pine Key that are a couple months old from seed. I know it’s not the most glamorous of the Opuntias out there but I didn’t know much when I bought them and wanted something edible for myself and my Uromastyx. Anywho. They are roughly 3” tall now and seem to be doing okay. I nearly lost them all at one point but they’ve all since come back. There are some variations in color that are a little alarming but overall they seem healthy. When should the acclimatization to sun and air start and when should they get real pots and soil?
