Had fun some months ago, engraving those pads in my countryside . Raw lines are never perfect but luckily the scarring process makes them bold and they tend to look better. The one i like the most is the one with a hand and a Lophophora button.

I like the hand one too. They look magnificent. Do you remove all the glochids first or suffer the wrath later? Also do you use one of those tools used in Clay pottery making that you run across the skin and it shaves off the skin kind of like a potato peeler and then add ink to deepen the color?
I'd like to see the pics once they scar up and all

here are some photos of engravings ( some 2 minutes after the cuts, some after few days)

healed skull
as you can see they look crappy at first, but as i said, they get better, after the plant heals
No ink or dye is used. The wounds look darker because they are wet, but they do look lighter usually
i use a simple knife, but even a scissor tip, or any sharp object will do the trick. Deep and raw cuts will result in bigger and bold scars, clean thin cuts will results in defined lines
you can see improvement in just few days, but the definitive drawing will be visible as the pad fully recovers ( it may take more than 2 months)
the best part is that pretty much all opuntia ficus indica here is spineless and glochidless ( they lose almost all the spination) so almost no harm tone to my hands
never thought about selling those, since it's easy to do that and basically anyone can. but they can be really nice gifts
I will try to devlop more simple designs ( they work definitely better)

Thanks These are some of my faves. The 4 headed JN513 was sown 2010, and the rest in 2011. Or rather, all were sown, and that's when they sprouted

The seed for these Tephros can take up to a couple years (at times) to germinate right?
I can't ever seem to find them for sale at the time I order Hell CH didn't have any that I remember or I would of snatched up a bunch of em
How was your germination rate with these seeds and how long did they just set?

That list had loads and that is where my current unsowed stash came from!
Germination rate for first sowings are low. They can benefit from scarification, stratification, and soaking. Worth resowing each year, or a few times, to try to bring on more sprouts. I still have trays of these seed laid out waiting for a soak in the spring.
