Here is out rescued opuntia.
It was a gift that had root rot bad.
Degraded it, and now here it is rooted again and showing several inches new growth.
It was de spined also, and is growing new spines now.
Got it from a Chinese guy in seattle at his restaurant

There was a stand of opuntia at the local farmers market today. Some fragilis, subulata and a couple others. I picked up this little guy for $7. Too much I know but oh well, didn't have one like this yet.

And an update on my little Opuntia humifusa experiment above, all of the surface sown seeds developed mold right across the board. I had around a total of 5 sprouts come up but most ended up shriveling up, falling over or otherwise failing. This is the lone survivor. I realize that germination is stagerred and more sprouts may come if I were to leave it be but I decided to get this little guy out of the contamination chamber that became my seed tray and cut my losses.

Overall it seems the best seed depth is ~1cm with the most sucess coming from leaving the seeds in the natural goo of the fruit they came in.
Haha I like your bunny cactus!

With fruit trees we remove the flower buds to that it will put the energy into it's own growth rather than the growth of fruits and flowers. I assume it is the same?
Edit: Thanks solipsis! And excellent rescue Raven!

Fuzz nutter got it but sadly i am so broke now i xant even pay attention. He is in canada. Too mich to send it that way. He is a good friend and totally understanding of that.
Anyways its for the plant to put its energy into making more paddles and not flowers. Works like a charm.

The first picture is an opuntia from Montana. My gf went to a funeral in Montana and on the reletives property was thus bad boy. She said he had big pads with spines inches long. She took a few small pads for clones. I think it was a wild plant, unless someone planted it awhile back I dunno. I'll find out leaning towards it was wild
The second pic is the opuntia pad I snagged from the store to root. It had dropped off the main piece for sale.. figured I'd include it along w a pic of the whole pot
I dunno what kind of opuntia they are but there they r

I have read about doing that with the Opuntia subulata monstrose, apparently it is a disease of sorts not a true montrose. Good luck let us know how it goes!

I was gifted with this earlier today. It's my first first Opuntia/non Trich. Also my first mutant.

I'm assuming Opuntia cacanapa var ellisiana. Pretty stoked on it. The variegation is nice.
