Now only if you were in thw states. Thats absolutely right. I had made a comment to my buddy about not having any when it flowers. He said just cut thwm off. Sounds simple enough. I did and actually harvestd some for my barbecue. Way more delicious now.

Oh and i dont barbecue thw paddles. Instead i slice them like fries and wrap them in foil. On a side note. I once did dip them in beaten eggs and then put flour on thwm. Then to thw deep fryer it was. They were so good.

Oh I was just reading about their nutritional content today actually Mine are pretty food, but I enjoy the fruits even better. Speaking of which,I found a massive field of opuntia growing this fall, and there were fruits as far as the eye could see! I wanted to go back out and take a pic,but I never made it before it started freezing and snowing

You shoukd not eat too much fruit. I hear it has a laxative effect.

When I was a kid my mama used to always nip off all the flower tops of the annual flowers she bought at the greenhouse. She said if you take all the buds off the plant will grow bigger, then when it flowers again it will be a much bigger plant.

When my sister-in-law cooks them on the stove they have a nice crunch to them. But when I tried BBQ'ing them they went limp (still tasted good). I'm going to experiment with finding a way to keep them firm when BBQ'ing.

I'd love to eat them some day but they are not that common here. The first photo I took on Tuesday at the cacti house and the second one was from back in December.

Thanks. Photography for me lets you see all the beauty that is around you. When I saw the fruit I got quite excited in a shit that's way cool kinda way.
How do you chose the best paddle/fruit to eat and can you make a chutney or pickle from them? I'm going to ask around to see if I can find one.

Its got to be a tender cutting to eat. No longer than 21 centimeters. And has the leaves still on.

Before.

After.

End product.

I usually cook them until the sap is gone then i add either black beans or Bush's baked beans. I Like Bush's because they are sweet and the sweet and the sournesss of the nopalitos makes a great side. This side is high in fiber so make sure you are close to the bathroom the next day. Cleans out colons but its so delicious.
