Whoa, what? I can grill my Opuntia??

What's the flavor like?

Not what I expected. Summer cuts are way better tasting. These winter ones sucks. No flavor at all. In The summer time they aquire a more lemony sour taste. Which is awesome. These totally sucked so I threw them out. Oh well. I guess I just wanted them too much.

I live in south texas and there are some massive opuntia at my work and around my area.
I'll take some pics tomorrow and post them up. There are so many in habitat
here they are almost a nuisance

I've used their fruits to make wine and spreads before. The wine
was a little weird but it worked haha. I've read a few other articles
about their biofuel capabilities. I think mostly harmless posted
a thread about it the other day as well.

I stopped growing ANY Opuntiae ten years ago - just had enough of those awful irritating glochids.

Finally getting around to contributing to this thread. This is some Opuntia species and it is crested. It was a straw flower rescue. I still need to transplant it though:

It is most likely the crested form of Austrocylindropuntia vestita, a common flower shop occurrence.

Probably keeps the pads more savory and keeps the plants growing thicker and more beautiful pads.

I'd guess that the plant reduces the amount of veg growth and instead focuses on flowering.
