Be sure to scrape off the uncolonized parts when you birth the cakes. Any exposed, uncolonized brf will be a magnet for contams.

I don't see any sign of contam, but generally to prevent pinning while the cakes are still colonizing, keep them in a dark spot. I usually leave the original tin foil I used during sterilization on the jars and that usually helps.

Also I kept them in a dark closet. No airflow in there at all also.

Use a lid larger than the cake, place moist verm in it then add the cake then top the cake with about 1/4 inch moist verm. = double cased cake

They do not look fully colonized, dont dunk, remove the uncolonized portions and double case to help prevent further contamination

Ok so I should use a wash the uncolonized brf and verm off until I reach mycelium and then do the lid and wet verm thing and not worry about the FC?

I would scrape it off, if contamination is present water will spread it. I would also start a few new cakes at this time
And yes put it in your fc

That makes sense! But doesnt need to go in fruiting chamber after double end casing right? And just mist as usual?

Hey i was doing some research and it turns out double end casing is kinda shit because if the verm underneath becomes wet mold and bacteria will thrive on it...

at least explain why these guys are wrong then
Experience is golden, I've ran 72 cakes (36 fruiting) (36 colonizing) alternating for a year straight and never had a problem with double end casing. What's the difference of having a cake rolled in verm sitting on foil? Water collects under the cake and on the foil just the same as the cake sitting on a moist verm layer except it doesn't pool up with a bottom layer of verm. I've never experienced or heard any negativity about a double end casing. I've ran cakes rolled and double end cased and both methods turned out fine
And is that the only thread you can find bashing a double end casing? Its over 8 years old

I would dunk, roll, & fruit those bitches! *yes* double end and side casing on the ones that aren't fully colonized. You may want to sterilize the verm (and the double end cases) in an oven with the verm already pretty damp. Like others have stated you can also cut off the uncolonized part. This has worked for me in the past. Or you could leave them go awhile longer and see if they will finish colonizing.... doubt it will though....looks to be some bacterial infection. Still not to say you can't pull some good fruits.....especially if you double case with sterilized wet verm....... Good Luck Friend!

Wow guys well i didnt dunk and I did case. I also tripped my balls off of 1.8 grams of dry pins. I know why they didnt fully colonize and its because the verm layer was wet as shit at the bottom! Love to see fellow cultivators helping an inexperienced guy like myself! So stick around and well see how this double end casing thing works out!
