I dont have any money saved to live off of. If they would have said id have to wait 5 weeks before pay i would have walked out.
Then walk out and find a new job.

Its pretty common for companies to hold or stagger you when you first get hired because of the way payroll processing and shit works. Normally it you get paid say every 2 weeks then you usually go 3 weeks before you get your first check. I get paid every 2 weeks. I get my check deposited on friday, but its actually for the 2 weeks BEFORE that. So the week taking place when my check is cut is not on that check, its staggered a week basically for all the processing time.
If your copmany is 2 checks a month, instead of every 2 weeks its possible you are getting staggered longer because the way their pay periods are setup, but I would seriously still go talk to payroll/HR about it because 5 weeks still seems a bit extreme. With your hire date I would have thought you would get one still at 3 weeks, even if it was a check slightly short on hours or something.
Don't be a dick to anyone, but be stern and serious about it. If its a smaller company you might also be able to ask the owner or payroll people to cut you a partial check because of the living situation or whatever. Didn't someone tell you when your first paycheck would be also? If they did, and they said 3 weeks, not 5, youn can bring that up as well.

Well every other week is different then twice a month. If its every other week then I cant imagine it being more then 3 weeks for a staggered check. If its twice a month then I could see it being longer, like closer to 4 weeks at most though. 5 to me sounds like maybe someone fucked up and didn't submit your shit in time to payroll and their answer tot hat problem is just doing it all in the NEXT run of payroll.
It is possible That you came in right at the middle point where normally you would get a 3 week check, but then they ALSO stagger you a pay period so when you leave the company, you leave with them oweing you another check or some shit. I've seen companies do that sort of staggering also. If thats the case 5 weeks would make sense as you have the 3 weeks that would normally take place, then the pay period they stagger so you are always ahead in hours and they are always owing you a check. I dont see this sort of setup very often though because it can lead to all sorts of issues for employers and employees if shit happens, firings, harrassments, lawsuits, what have you. But a small company might be more geared to that as an easier way to deal with people constantly leaving the job/high turn over rate.
When you talk to payroll or HR (or both at the same time) dont offer up any of the possbilities people gave you here as reasons why it could be that way. I HAVE seen payroll/HR people do shady shit where they hear you bring up what you thought was causing it, and even though thats not the reason they agree with you to make you feel better about waiting for that check or whatever.
Hope you get it straight. If the job is worth it I would stick it out unless you discover its shady reasons behind this. Make sure you document everything on paper and keep any documents you were given from day 1.
