How much do they sell for?

Unless you plan on keeping all 300 of them

you can buy adult chinese mantises for like 5-15 USD. it only cost 30$ for 5 egg cases though, each of which produces 75-300 alienbugs

i wont be selling any. i have 4 more egg cases out doors, and i released 75% of these ones that i hatched inside.

im gonna release a few more, and let the rest battle it out

wanna know what the most balanced diet is for a mantis? other mantises.

You should totally film this mantispocalypse, I'd watch.

after about 30 hours hatched, they still seem unwilling to eat eachother. they also don't want to eat the ground beef, or cat food, unless i coax them to by putting it in front of their face. they run away from eachother mostly

hopefully one of them balls up and starts eating his brethren, or else all i'll have is little Moonshoe, who has learned to love his catfood.

Fuck all those cat threads. This is by far the cutest thread I've ever seen. Moonshine is going to be the strongest mantis because he eats his cat food. I really hope he wins when the cannibalism starts.

even baby crickets are a little too big, unless youre willing to pick out the small ones with tweezers or something

at this stage, pretty much all they eat are Ahpids, teeny-tiny spiders, and fruit flies(the tiny ones)

i might be able to get flightless fruit flies from a local animal shop, but the problem is that they are so small that they can crawl through the mesh coving the terrarium

Moonshoe loves crawling on my arm. i wonder if my fruious typing upsets him?  it must be like a damn earthquake to him

As long as food is abundant and they have a little space to get out of each others way, they're not going to become cannibals at this stage. Which species are they exactly?

@ teamkiller

i would if i could. if you lived nearby(pittsburgh) i would be happy to give you basically as many as you want. but i'm not equipped or informed enough to ship live insects

yeah though, apparently the egg cases are a gamble, because females lay them whether they are fertile or not. so if youre unlucky you could get a bunch of un-impregnated egg sacs that wont produce anything

i would be willing to bet that there are local sellers near you though. lots of exotic-animal shops that sell lizards also sell mantises

actually, that's what they were sold as. i have no idea if that is the actual species or not. so far, they are brown. i dunno if that will be the adult color or not

WHATEVER BRO, i want a ghost mantis ANYWAY.

I'm just kidding, congrats on the healthy babies.  yeah pretty sure my lady was infertile just laying eggs for no reason.  the previous year i had an eggbound female and that was pretty horrifying to watch her stomach rot.

Moonshoe is doing pretty well. hes noticeably fattened up

theyve been around about 40 hours

there was a SNAFU with the cat food. turns out, gravy is like fucking quicksand for mantises. Moonshoe got stuck several times, and several mantises in the main emclosure basically drowned in it.

gotta be more careful. they are so delicate

cool part though, moonshoe barely even needs to be inside a container, he will sit in the same spot for hours on end. hes been sitting under my bankers light for like 3 hours now. so far i only need to put him in a container when im not around or asleep

when they get bigger, the males will get antsy and start flying around, the females i just leave on plants and they're fine as long as they're not hungry or thirsty.

I dunno about this cat food, every petco and petsmart will have  flightless tiny flies you can feed them.
