I am wondering if anyone on here has any experience with eating / gathering (not at all in that order) Cortinarius violaceus ?
I encounter it almost every year in my area and just found some popping through the debris a couple days ago.
Was planning to go back and harvest them potentially I heard that they can be quite tasty..
I will post pics soon dont have the camera on hand atm.

My apologies for the delayed update/bump. Here is the pic of the cort I was referring to. I believe it is Cortinarius Traganus now.. but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong as I am by no means an expert.

Cortinarius usually require a microscope to nail down a specie. Take a spore print and provide a gill shot and stem shot.

A lengthwise slice to expose the flesh and a whiff of the odor would bring you closer to a conclusion.
C. camphoratus is also an option.

Yea I dont think it was C. camphoratus due to the lack of length in the stipe but youre right it could be.

Cortinarius traganus sounds good, what does it smell like? That species has an unusual odor.

I don't recall it having much of an odor the picture was taken back in may so the partciular mushroom in question has since been composted.
