How important is compost with agaricus spp?

So I just got some blazei cultures that I plan to do in monotubs this summer. I've read all the growth parameters in GGMM for blazei, but stamets recommends compost.
I know that agaricus spp. are secondary decomposers and like lots of free nitrogen in their substrate.
So, I don't really have the means to do a compost, since I live in an apartment. I had an idea to do a substrate with 50% verm, 25% hpoo, and 25% chicken manure supplemented coir in monotubs, cased with jiffy mix.
Am I on the right track? Is there anything else I could add, or is my plan flawed in any way? I appreciate the input.

chicken manure might be too hot unless you let it compost a bit.

Alright, well is horse manure by itself sufficient? Or what about just a tiny amount of chicken manure, like a teaspoon for 4 half gallons of substrate. It's just that I've never attempted growing an agaricus before and my living situation prevents me from doing a compost. I'm sure I could rig something up on my balcony, but I'd like to avoid having to do that.
So with that being said, would a standard 50/50 hpoo/verm sub like I use for cubes work well for the blazei?

Stick with 80% hay, 15% manure, 5% gypsum and keep away from vermiculite on bulk substrates, its inorganic and just a waste of money since the hay and manure should hold plenty of water on there own. The horse manure should have more than enough nitrogen to partially compost the hay, especially for a first grow. More nitrogen will just increase the risk of contamination.
It sounds like your only option is the balcony. You can compost in a bucket or tote, paint it black if its not dark and preferably place it in the sun for extra heat. Drill multiple holes in the container and lid for airflow. Lightly water and turn it daily (or more) to speed up the process. You will want to put a drip pan under it to collect the stinky runoff, use that to water plants after diluting it. In a week or two it should be ready. Air holes are a must or you will have anaerobic bacteria bloom and it will smell like serious shit. You will need to pasteurize when done.

Okay. I have a bucket that I've already drilled holes in the lid. Should I still out the rest of the bucket in a 2" grid of 1/4" holes? Composting suddenly seems much more feasible.
I'm going to re-read all the info on composting in TMC. If I can run a couple monotubs of blazei on my balcony I will be a happy camper.

The lid alone will probably not be enough air holes, I'd make that grid. Try 1/4 holes at first but you may need to go larger. I'd only fill half full so you can easily shake, roll or stir the contents.

So here's something I've been wondering for a bit. Would grass clippings be an okay substitute for hay?

Is stick with wheat straw, grass clippings may work but they are high in nitrogen and get really hot. If anything you would probably sub some manure for grass clippings. Might be worth looking into for future experiments but not a first grow. Stick to proven substrates.

Manure is best. Dry horse manure that is rehydrated at 140F for 12-48hrs and squeezed to drain excess moisture. I have done sterilized bags before but pasteurized is a lot easier.

Really? I can do blazei on straight pasteurized hpoo in monotubs? This is just getting better and better

yeah dude. i'm not tooting my own horn here but I'm probably the only person in this thread that has fruited blazei. it's not easy but it's also the best tasting shroom ever!!!

I became interested in it when I read that A. brunnescens is potential carcinogenic. Also I've noticed blazei popping up in mushroom based supplements. I've read about them in GGMM, but haven't talked to anyone about fruiting them much. I know blindingleaf has done them at his farm, but I don't think he's ever grown them small scale. I'm determined to do some monotubs on my balcony this summer.
