reishi SAB grow

i would like to grow reishi in a SAB.
my plan is to sanitize the SAB.
then i will add a layer of rye spawn 1 inche thick to the bottom of the big clear storage container.
then i will put 3 inches of sawdust on the bottom of the container.
then i will add another layer of rye spawn about 1 inch thick then add a thin layer of sawdust on top of that layer.
i will keep the lid on the container until the antlers are about 6 inches tall.
then i will take off the lid so that the antlers grow conks!
will this style of growing work? what is wrong with this style?
i have 8lb of sawdust and 3lb of grain to do this as well as a spore syringe to get it all started.
help a noob out!
i will post pictures as soon as the grain colonizes and i can set up the SAB.

just mixing the spawn in well will let it colonise a lot faster than when you make layers!
So you're making some sort of monotub?

ok cool i will put the grain spawn inside sawdust bag and mix alltogether
yes i am going to basically making a monotub except now i am unsure how to set up for a gas exchange.
how should i make a gas exchange?
im thinking cut a few holes in the lid and tape grow bag filters over the hole... maybe 4 grow bag filters be enough for a 100 liter tub?
and also keep the box in my closet in the dark

Ok, so to start with Forrest is right, you are making a monotub. What you should do is a traditional monotub with 2 holes on each long side, then one hole on the shirt side near the handles. There are tons of teks on this, but most are exactly the same. What size tub are you thinking of making? From there, you would spawn it as described, just put take over the holes till its colonized. Then, once colonized you pull off the take and put poly fill in the holes. You adjust the FAE by the amount of poly fill and how tightly it is stuffed in the holes.
As far as layering the spawn and sub, the technique you described is pretty much how I do it. The only difference with what I do is, I start with a small layer of sub on the bottom, then do one jar spawn, then layer sub, then 2 jars spawn, then sub, then 2 jars spawn, then a thin layer of sub on the top. I have found this prevents patchy colonizing and actually is faster colonizing than the traditional mixing spawn with sub. This basically makes patching faster colonizing areas a thing of the past. Below I put a link to the traditional monotub tek.

Thanks for the compliment bunny! I look forward to seeing what you come up with. I am also working on my writeup for my automated tubs setup. Should be done with it in a few days. Anyways, if you feel like my advice and such has been helpful, please leave me a rating now that you have 50 posts. Good luck, and let me know if theres anything else I can help with.

thanks! i was just thinking; would i get a higher yeild from 6 6lb bags of sawdust/grain or a monotub with the same amounts of sawdust/grain?
im thinking the tub will do better but am unsure.

I prefer tubs, but they say that it's not the fruiting method. It's supposed to be about how much spawn you use, is what determines how much fruits you get. I'm not completely sure about this though.

what might be a good experiment would be to get the same amount of sawdust in a monotub and the same amount in bags and weigh out the total mushroom yeild and see which yield of fruits is higher.
