Good Things that Governments are Doing

Let's face it, the people might be stuck with the government for a long time. It takes a lot of flak from the people, in my opinion for good reason most of the time, and that might distract us from the fact that government has done a lot of good for the people and certainly still has incredible potential to make our lives better. I wanted to recognize this and thank the government for being cool sometimes too.
- Patial's thread on the new tax-exempt status on female hygiene products, I had the thought for this thread while looking at this.
- It's Now Illegal in France for Grocery Stores to Throw Away Edible Food - I have family in the retail food industry and some of the stories I hear about food wastage are appalling. In a time of supposed resource deficiency and the acute hunger of over 10% of the worlds population it is sad to hear numbers like this:
Quote:
Millions of tons of perfectly edible food are put in our landfills every year.
Just came across this article - Americans throw out more food than plastic, paper, metal, and glass

Banning these micro plastic pellets or whatever you call them. They end up straight in the food chain.

Gotta be better ways to exfoliate your skin than to rub little plastic bits on your face.

I'd just like to give a shout out to North Korea and say good job for all the good they're doing in the world..
Wouldn't be such a peaceful place without them.... Thank you North Korean Government, Keep up the good humane work

Not to derail but i don't care how safe they say it is, Look at all the unintended disasters from nuclear waste and plants and they're "safe". Putting radioactive waste that close to the largest fresh water sources on earth is just silly.... go bury it in your frozen arctic zones no one lives in. launch it into space... anything but near such a valuable natural resource that millions depend on and one day will be even more important. Regardless of how safe it is accidents happen. AND THAT IS NOT ONE THIS WORLD NEED.

I enjoy my governments park system immensely. There is more parks in within 200 mile radius then there is city.
I love camping hiking and kayaking I also have access to public transits which prevents me from getting a DUI .
I also enjoy relatively lower taxes on booze. Though they are raising it again, They have such stupid blue laws here. Good thing I can drive 45 mintues to a different state and get it on sunday.

The parks and trains are pretty nice as well as these freeways that go everywhere.
Also the space program. That's basically the coolest thing any human is participating in.

Frances new food law is a terrible idea and it is purely a political move. 1. At the very best it would only stop 5% of food waste 2. Grocers will be reponsible for moat of the logistics; sorting, packing, shipping etc. That means that they will need to raise prices to cover the cost. Higher food prices do not help the poor! 3. Certain industries, such as the callte and oil (biofuel) are going to be provided with free feed and biofuel at the expense of grocers and their customers. 4. Many charities, such as the red cross are confirming what I say; that it is a logistical nightmare and will have too unreasonably high a cost both human and financial, charities don't even posess the capacity to store, sort, pack,, tecieve, and ship all the food either. 5. It Is just morally wrong to jail a grocer for 2 years for not doing this.
for the braindead, shallow zombies, this window dressing is enough to get them happy and excited, but that is precisely why they did it. Its purely a poliical move to get votes from all the dumb people who fail to think things out thoroughly.
