Left holding the bags! Advise needed..
    #21735943 - 05/29/15 08:15 AM (8 years, 7 months ago)

first time posting here and could use a little help. Like the title, i was literally left or (gifted)
two 1lb inoculated rye bags and a ten lb bag of pastuerized compost by a friend who had to move. I was instructed to let the bags fully colonize and mix it in a tub with the compost and all should be fine. I have done a few bags from homestead years ago but that was idiot proof. I have also read through the forums here a bit, but would like any and all advice from the gurus out there. Thanks in advance!

If the bags fully colonize and the compost is stays pasteurized for that long then it's pretty much as easy as they said. Look up how to make a monotub, mix the bags in and wait.

Anyone else know how long compost will stay pasteurized for? I thought you had to make use of it ASAP or you lose the effect of the pasteurization. Is there any reason to wait after pasteurizing to let the helpful bacteria colonize the compost more?

yea thats something i was also worried about! It came from a gourmet mush farm and is in a sealed bag, but just to be safe i thought i might have to pastuerize it myself
