Best harvesting technique
    #21735851 - 05/29/15 07:25 AM (8 years, 7 months ago)

There is some conflicting info on this forum as to what is the best way to harvest shroomies.  I realize it may be an individual preference, but I think back in the day, advice was to twist shroomies and uproot them, as to not leave any fruit body in the cake.  Recently, I have seen many fellow shroomheads cut the shroomies at the very bottom.  What is the idea behind that?  if you have a heavy pinset and cut the shroomies off at the bottom, wouldn't that leave less spave for next flushes pins to develop?  just trying to understand the change in harvesting technique, ive noticed over time.

the idea behind cutting is to not rip up your substrate with the shrooms and leaving it vulnerable to contaminations.
new pins will develop on the stems left behind, they are just myc after all!

It's like you said.  There really isn't a best way to harvest your fruits, but, fortunately, there are several different proven methods of harvesting fruits to choose from.  Pick the method that you feel causes the least amount of stress to your substrate while at the same time being the most comfortable for you to execute.

This is a method that I have developed for harvesting fruit bodies.

thanks guys, ill see what makes best sense for my grow.  I used twist and pull method in the past, without damaging much of the substrate.
