Blue-bruising Bay Area Mushrooms...what are these?

Habitat: Found under and around piles of wet branches and pine needles in misty coastal forest off Hwy 35 (Half Moon Bay, CA)
Gills: Whitish-brown gills that bruise very blue
Stem: Relatively thick hollow white stem
Cap: Flat or wavy, brown and light yellow-brown, largest cap is about 2.5 in across
Spore print color: Still taking spore print...will update soon
Bruising: Purple-blue at first, now )about 5 hours later) totally blue
Other information: Immature mushrooms were tiny and very, very blue

Also, some more details: no bitter taste, so not a gymnopilus? Failed to get a spore print, unfortunately. I feel like such a noob...

No not Gymnopilus sp., it is still Lactarius deliciocus group like Joust pointed out.

Just tasting in your mouth without swallowing is okay and won't harm. With genera like Russula and Lactarius taste is often vital for identification.
